1:36 a physical key still wont help in this type of attack, they steal your cookies so they can log into your accounts bypassing the 2fa and password. Basically if you have any remember me and other websites you don't need to type a password to log into they can use those cookies to log into your account. you probably got infected by clicking a link and downloading something. Someone probably pretending to be a sponsor and when you opened the download nothing happened. only real way to stop these attacks in the future is to not have anything on the computer you open and download stuff on and use an email only for that purpose or have virtual machines.
I highly recommend getting yubikeys and locking your RUclips account down with them, if you set up your Google account right there's no way someone can get into the account without one of the keys, a password manager like bitwarden that can also be locked down with the same yubikey can make hacking attempts on your accounts damn near impossible by using very long random passwords in conjunction with the yubikey
Hey Rick I’m a dev, don’t know if you will see this but I would recommend using a password vault manager. Something like keeper or last pass. Make sure you use their recommended password and just save it in the record. Don’t ever save any passwords to chrome. Their password manager sucks and is very easy to decrypt. Also, use unique passwords for everything never copy and paste from other passwords and then finally use 2FA or MFA whenever possible. You can do additional things to help secure your home and store network but I won’t get into all of that, just letting you know. Super sorry this happened.

This is a very scary situation, but I've seen it so many times before, and in every case, their channels have been restored eventually, I really hope the same is the case with you! I know it's scary to see people unsubscribe so rapidly and the lost revenue isn't good either but I really think things will work out in the long run! I am so sorry that this happened to begin with

Assuming that its the same type of phishing that others have gotten hit with, its an email posing as a sponsor offer that has some sort of malware which copies the RUclips/Google cookies from the victim's computer to the host. On Google's end, it as if Rick was doing this all from his own computer.

If they got a clone of your browser or phone You need to force log out all the devices and change your phone number for 2FA. Switch to the authenticator app.

The fact they regained control makes me do wonder if they have planted a tracker code into the system you accessed it on. You may have to do a full wipe of the storage device in question i'm afraid or even worse remove it and replace it.

Physical 2FA keys wont most likely help. Once you open the wrong file, you send your browser data for them, meaning RUclips thinks its you and that grants them access. Best way to not get hacked this way is to open email attachments with Sandboxie or Windows Sandbox.

I'm not a youtuber, but i do know what being hacked feels like, such that earlier this year i had to create another facebook account due to someone taking over, or hacking into the other one, such as changing the login completely without my knowledge and deleting my phone number. Hopefully you'll get ur channel back, and these hackers will be apprehended.

I will say this anyone and everyone that has had access to that email and or RUclips account needs to factory reset their device (android/apple phones) or reinstall windows after a full wipe of the hdd otherwise this will continue to happen ..it's likely someone in your company clicked a very convincing email or went somewhere they shouldn't on the net (my guess would be a sus web page for cover art for a game with alot of Spyware built into the site unknowingly to the user) personally if you guys are going to browse the web or do anything outside work on a computer at work ...use a pc that's not normally logged into the account because hackers will grab anything they can and latch onto it
Also I really hope you have a server backup of all your videos...if not don't panic just reach out to the community there's likely someone that has them all in various resolutions

HEY! You probably got ‘sim swapped’. It happens frequently with t-mobile but can happen with any carrier. Basically someone goes into a store acting as if they’re you or convince an employee over the phone to basically put your phone number into a phone that they control. They can then use your 2fa text to login to things if they have your passwords and stuff. I would check with your phone carrier!!
SIM swapping doesn’t work if you’re using app auth. And like I said in another comment… who is gonna spend resources to SIM swap Retro Rick? 😂😂😂 not worth it.

I can find the Retro Rick YT Channel now and see the videos but it says MicroStrategy instead of Retro Rick
Just pointing out this has nothing to do with Micro Strategy, the actual REAL one anyway. Look into Michael Saylor / Micro Strategy, and you'll soon realise his company wouldn't be hacking ANY RUclips channel. Sadly, this is impersonators that are also giving cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin a bad name. Anyway, hope you get the channel back. Last I checked, the videos were back at least, so fingers crossed it all gets resolved ASAP.

Pokémon has still been just as strong as it ever has been, but this past year is when a ton of us 30 year olds started getting back into collecting cards again after many years being away! My Husband and I have lots of stuff now and a whole room dedicated to our stock.
Hope you can get everything loved going back and re-watching the older videos sometimes
