First Fleet Convict Cemetery - Australia's Oldest | St Johns Cemetery Parramatta NSW

- St Johns Cemetery in Parramatta is the oldest european cemetery in Australia and is the final resting place for at least 50 first fleet travellers, many of whom lay in unmarked graves.
Unfortunately, these days St Johns is overgrown and almost all but forgotten. Do people really know it even exists? Do the spirits stir restlessly, unloved and forgotten, all alone at St Johns?

Great video thank you for sharing watching from Africa Uganda God bless you
1 of our important cemeteries and neither gov or council want to put their hand up to look after it...it needs to be preserved for our future generations... That was awesome Jules...
Absolutely! I was hoping if me and others bring attention to this it may grab the attention of others. When it’s maintained it looks wonderful too. So many important people are buried near the back and sections I couldn’t get to. They truly deserve more respect and dignity. ❤️
Like the area and scenery. 👍👍👍 good stuff. Ciao from Italy 🇮🇹🇮🇹
Hello there and a big hello from Australia
Awesome Video Thanks for sharing 👍💜👻
intresting video i been at that cemetery 4 years ago parramatta council should be cleaning up ...get the unemployed take on as a venture...good video Julie
They certainly should Robert. And thank you 😊🙏🏼
@@UnearthlyWanderings thanks when checking the names on the historic cemeteries go to NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF AUSTRALIA SEARCH FOR THE NAME ON THE HEAD STONE
@@robertproietti-ricci6403 Thank you. I knew where the people were buried I wanted to visit but unfortunately I wasn't risking the snakes in the long grass on our lovely warm day. Some of the graves would have been hard to even see in the long grass.
what a great review will have to check it out i droned rookwood 6 yrs ago keep the reviews coming ok
hi julie , cool video , that place looks so nice , such a shame its not being kept up , 5.51 *i am bob* , very interesting , well done and thank you :)
Thank you Davie ❤️👻
What an awesome cemetery such alot of important history x
That's so sad that it's not maintained! It's still so pretty though. The imagery at 6:07 is so pretty...it's like an album cover :) I'm a new subscriber and already a big fan!!
Thank you so much Virmedius and welcome to our family. I’ve seen pictures of the cemetery when cared for and it does look beautiful, even now it’s still beautiful but needs TLC. The longer grass was around thigh high.
I’ll be taking in your videos.
Wow great video there were more than a few EVP responses, will listen back and write down the words
and timeline.
If Pye spelled this way , then I have a relative way back of Sarah Susanna Pye would be interesting.
TY for sharing .
Here’s
Deb💜
Would be wonderful to hear them thank you Deb. That name sounds awfully familiar?!? It’s a shame I couldn’t get in amongst most of the graves. ❤️
Council needs to give it a good clean headstones and all.
My family has told me I’ve got an ancestor in there, apparently they’re in an unmarked grave, old grave sites scare me but one day I’ll visit
AND 8 months since then I’ve Been doing the Research and I’ve discovered I’ve got two ancestors in there
out of the mouths of babes why is the no flowers I heard a child say this place really needs to be taken care of my get in contact with a historical place or council
Oh my gosh yes, I think that was my niece that said that and she’s right. If I go back next time, which I’m planning to, I’ll be taking flowers with me that’s for sure. You can feel the sadness there sis. 🥲❤️
did you look on find a grave
No I actually found this place through another RUclipsr. They have a map at the front with notable figures but some you can’t get to due to the overgrown state and Samuel Marsden was supposed to be near the front but I couldn’t find him.
How shameful it’s not being looked after. I hope that changes, it’s our history. Activists will probably vandalize the cemetery. Evil if they do!
