    If anyone is wondering why the Super Stage has never appeared in any other R-type game but the SMS version it's because it's original content by Compile who developed the SMS port of R-Type. So that stage and it's unique assets actually belongs to Compile not Irem.

    • @jessragan6714
      @jessragan6714 Год назад +4

      And all that's left of Compile NOW is Compile Heart, which means that if they remade the game, they'd have Idea Factory do it and put lots of softcore porn in it.

      @@jessragan6714 Haha. Man. Sad but true :P Made me laugh, thank you!
      It's funny what can be the result of decades of mergers and more frequently acquisitions; the end result rarely retain anything of what it used to be, who it used to employ, what it used to "do" eh.
      Still, there's still art even there, unlike freaking pachinko BS imho.
      Or worst, mobile casinos masquerading as games (a real issue with younger segment of the crowd; not a surprising when it's pushed knowingly by large creators monetize the trust youngsters easily give to them. They knowingly push that crap on kids. But to older guys it's a great way to filter content TBH ;)
      And NO, you DON'T NEED to SELL YOUR SOUL to shady casino companies to make a living here. You can use it to make MORE money, there's a distinction. I say it because there's always an idiot coming out of the woodwork with that demonstrably false argument. In life, not only in RUclips and since forever, you will have MANY occasions to "make MORE money"; sometimes the only limit is your own morals, if you have any. Civie is a channel about mostly obscure DOS FPS, and he's now a giant and NEVER, EVER, not a SINGLE time, used a sponsor (aside spoofs lol). He's making a lot of money. Could he and have been making more money? YES! But he told them to GTFO because of principles. Same with guys like SLX and sooooo many others.
      I think my wake up call was when AVGN, YES, THE channel about horrible games and anti-consumerism in the industry shilling for Raid:SL... A "game" owned by a literal casino cartel in the middle east; So not a bad but cheeky good game, no. A "if you have any sort of casino related weakness you WILL waste your money AND time" in the most boring and insulting gaming loop possible.
      Not sure why I felt like writing this, but I did, and it felt good.
      Sorry guys lol.
      Thank for the vid SLX. But about that, R-type has active rights holders so they use the visibility given by channel like yours to test the water, probe the beast a little, instead of doing ALL the work and getting a C&D letter the next day. It's love to hear their plan for that. I navigated those water with Sony with the PSP and VITA CFW/ hacking scene, and SNK + various hardware companies they used for their last 6 years of products or so (since the Neo Geo Minis I think, all the way up to the MVS X, which is when I left because the main team decided to fold everything even though no one had a right to stop freely distributing a hack/CFW without actual roms; it's been a long standing caselaw since the Nintendo landmark case loss to Game Genie guys AGES ago).
      But here, I mean, it's directly the IP of another company. Hope they refuse donation, for now at least, or it will come back to bit them in the a$$ even if it's a negligible amount.

If i had any constructive criticism to give it would only be that i think some of the sound assets could be tweaked a little bit. The explosions of basic enemies especially seemed to be too grainy and jarbled for my taste. Also hoping for more variations in the songs as far as looping. One of the tracks felt very repetitive. The Genesis is better suited for shooters and sports games than the SNES, because of the faster CPU. But it's a different story with fighting games and RPGs, those games are usually better on SNES. Both of those great systems, have their pros and contras.

    • @Isoquant
      @Isoquant Год назад +2

      SNES probably better overall for arcade ports with the SA-1 chip. You could run this at full 60hz instead of 30hz on mega. And you'd have the superior sprite count, color, and wavetable synthesis of the SNES hardware.

    • @greensun1334
      @greensun1334 Год назад

      @@Isoquant with SA-1 for sure, it's a huge improvement for the comparable slow 3,58mHz CPU. But I guess he meant how those games are running on stock hardware without any helper chips. Like I said, it depends on the genre and the game itself, and altrough the Genesis has the bigger shmup library, there are also very impressive S-tier shmups without or close to no slowdown on SNES, like Rendering Ranger R2, Super R-Type 3, Super Aleste, Axelay and other great titles.

      This is something we talked about a lot but it's not easy to balance. Right now the music driver in sgdk doesn't allow software control of volume, so once music and sfx are authored, that's what you get. If you can point out a timestamp where you hear this conflict it would be of great help to use as a reference for further adjustmenets.

    • @dwightdixon8508

      @@therobozRemember this is just my opinion, so no offense at all but the music sounds like it’s on the same volume level as the sound effects so if the music were 2 maybe 3 levels lower I can focus on the task at hand, firing weapons and hearing enemies being hit & eliminated as it is the music at same levels making that difficult, for me at least. The visuals look fantastic and regardless of sound effects & music levels I’d buy without hesitation.

Well done.

  • @landom9080
    @landom9080 Год назад

    It’s amazing to see how much smoother and accurate this port is compared to the Turbo version. While I enjoyed the Turbo very much I always thought arcade ports made on it were subpar. Especially when others like Ninja Spirit (another great IREM title) and Shinobi were also ported to the PC Engine and ironically not the Megadrive.
    The sprite works looks spot on IMO. I always prefer original soundtracks when they are arcade titles but it’s nice to hear reworked soundtracks.

    R-Type needs a respawn at start of stage, not at checkpoints (mid stage), which is unnecessarily difficult and only useful to be a quarter muncher. It is much more fun to get more power up through the stage than to restart in the middle of chaos. Please add this option! 😊

    • @JDoucette

      The respawn in position was tried in R-Type Dimensions and it doesn't work. The game is not balanced for this. It's not fun and only serves to beat the game despite losing. The fun is the power up system and kicking ass.

    • @JDoucette
      @JDoucette Год назад

      @@rsmith02 Sure. To be clear, I am speaking about the original R-Type arcade and ports of it, such as this Sega Genesis port. The stages are so brutal to start mid-way (there's only one checkpoint per stage) that it's much better to start at the beginning. Sure it means more back tracking, but it also means less replays of the 2nd tougher half of the stage with no fire power. Adding onto this the multi-power-up system (options, force, missiles) which takes several stages to max out, more stage time = more chance to max it out.

      @@misterbigg3336Made up to see this on the MD, bit of a dream come true. But it does highlight how great the PCE version is. The Engine has a better colour palette & the port was programmed by Hudson who designed the PCE hardware. Still, this MD version is a fantastic achievement

      Maybe you're just not good. It's okay though keep at it and you'll get better each try!

      R-Type was never good, doesn't give any examples as to why. Was this the new thing to do on the internet, lol.

      Seriously, that response fails at every level. If you can't give an opinion without any details as to why you have it, then your opinion does absolutely nothing to sway my nor anyone else's perception of this game. From what I can see from this footage, the game appears to be pretty damn decent.

      Say you just suck at shmups and rather play a million more Sonic and Streets of Rage hacks😊.
