1) it assembles much quicker 2) the quality of the print is substantial and the mods needed are much less significant compared to the ones this one needed and 3) it can work w/ ABS. Really if the person is willing to spend the extra money this would probably b a better choice, especially if you're not too good at assembly stuff.
Potato Potato The tarantula works better with abs. You don't need to close the printer with blankets and such, and the heated bed reaches way higher temperatures
RCLifeOn hey RC I have a tarantula and I love it I get perfect prints but I have one problem. My heated bed only reaches 80 deg max..I get a lot of warping and layer separation..when printing with ABS..how does your heated bed reach such a high temperature?
I like your style better than all the other 3D guys, because of you I just ordered this printer today and I truly hope it will not disappoint I have high hopes for it after the mods you suggested. I am trusting you and will be linking you in my channel as of why I choose this.. Love the videos, keep them coming.
Very good review! I bough my Tarantula 2 weeks ago (for $193 on aliexpress) after watching it. Finished assembling it yesterday evening, it was great experience. Not a single part or nut was missing. I was able to make a few prints, including a perfectly sized 20mm cube without any calibration besides the bed leveling. Thanks! BTW: it came with Marlin firmware, not Repetier like most other reviewers say.
Excellent production quality on: script, voice quality, audio and lighting. The instructions were made clear and the setup environment is conducive. The overall work is helpful.
Wow this is a flash from the past. I remember this printer and how amazing I thought it was when I had first gotten it. What a nightmare lol, any printer made from acrylic is just bound to fail. I had to replace everything on the printer until I stopped using it, now that I am running on an upgraded ender 3 pro it's hard to believe I got any decent prints off of it. Amazing how fast printers dropped down in price and how quickly aluminum took over.
Excellent review and a great comparison to A8. I'm glad you're reviewing affordable popular 3D printer kits since other top RUclips channels snob this segment of the market.
Hello, I just purchased this Tevo Tarantula after watching your video! But I am uncertain of how you installed the additional cooling fans the fit in the custom bracket. I bought the two turbo fans that you linked in the description. The Power supply is a 12v but the fans are 24v. How did you wire the additional fans and do I need to purchase any additional stuff for the fans to work? Tried doing the research to figure this out but you are my last resort lol. Thanks!
I simply connected the 24V fans to the 12V power supply. They are too powerful anyways, so 12V works perfectly fine. You need nothing else. Good luck sir!
RCLifeOn i ordered the 24V fans you recomended. unfortunately it didnt work out that easily for me. they only start spinning when i manually give them a little push. after that they run fine. so i ordered a 12V to 24V converter on ebay. i would suggest not to recommend these fans in combination with this printer. seems not to work out that good for everyone ;) and by the way: really nice high quality review you did here!
Man, now I don't know which to get. I was planning to buy the anet a8 today till I saw this video. Which printer would you recommend for me? (I'm only gonna print PLA)
Tim Montanus I was too, I went with the A8; if you look up printers from this company on RUclips there are videos out showing them as fire hazards! They might have fixed it, no way to tell, so I went with the a8. It has A LOT of cool mods and videos for it. I got it from gearbest b.c eBay sends you offbrand printers, bought it Friday and I'm waiting for it to ship but I think there are some companies that keep a8s other than them. Good luck!
I have the Anet A8, and you can print ABS but you need some kind of printplate (buildtak, Zebra plate). The original tape you get with the Anet is simple painters tape and will not stick to your buildplate if you print with ABS. So thats the only thing you should consider buying. The bed temperature reaches 100 c so what he says is not true. the Anet looks much stronger and stiffer than this printer. And everything is better put together. You don't have to buy anything extra for the Anet if you only want to use PLA, but use the correct settings. If you want mine just ask or watch Nexi on RUclips he has great tips which helped me allot. So I guess u know what printer I recommend buying :p
I have an Anet A8 from gearbest running for around six weeks, I have had no problems, theres room for improvement on both printers which in my opinion is a good thing, upgrading a base printer is a good way to start printing! the bowden on the Tevo is a big plus, I will be converting mine over within the next couple of weeks, The Tevo also looks to have a much better Z axis limit switch position - the on one the A8 really should be replaced very early in the upgrade path, The frame and bearings look fine for the Z Axis but that y Axis set up centered on an acrylic H frame looks somewhat suspect, the A8 now comes with an aluminum H frame and is supported on both sides not in the center, so I expect it is more stable and less prone to wobble, have a look at the upgrades for the Tivo both on you tube and thingyverse I suspect there will be many for frame bracing as there are for the A8 - after watching this I would still go with the A8, having to source and fit cooling fans could be a major pain if the mainboard is not going to allow controlling them during the print - you need to check with Tivo owners if that is the case - it wasn't covered by this review, whatever you choose will be a good start and will give you a printer able to print the parts for your next printer :) welcome to the club - have fun!
Greetings from The Island of Trinidad in the Caribbean.. Wow I honestly had no Idea these things existed outside sci fi movies.. So proud of us humans and our technological advances.. I'm Too poor to dream of ever owning something like this but I enjoy seeing whats possible in today's world.. Thank you for sharing.. Watching this video was totally enjoyable.. Keep up the amazing work.. Yeah I would have loved to receive one but I'm way too late though.. Would have been wonderful to have a chance..
Thank you for this great review of the printer. I was always interested in 3D printers, but I thought they were to expensive. Your review changed my opinion. After watching many videos about other cheap 3D printer I didn't know which I now wanted to buy. After watching this video the third time I know now that the tevo tarantula the best printer for me is.
Excellent review ... thorough and well produced. I've been able to learn a lot from your reviews. I'm technically inclined and very much want to get into 3d printing but I also want my purchase to be as informed as possible. Your insight is helping a lot. Thanks for your time and efforts. dave
Hey, just woundering if you can make a video about mounting the fans? Where to get the power from etc? Me and my brother just ordered and we are going to assemble it togheter
Which "perks" do you have one yours/Recommend? Standard Printer, Large Build Area, Automatic platform, Flex Extruder, Auto and Flex, Dual and Auto, Auto and Large, Dual and Large or Dual Auto Large. And did you have to pay "Tull" to get it into Sweden. I am from Sweden and thinking of getting one.
very good review, many details, time and speed comparison, noise level, quality of the finish product,,,one of the best and complete review i`ve seen so far,,,,,,thanks
search for '3d printer free cad'. I use Freecad, scad and solvespace. If you have never used 3d cad or any cad program expect a HUGE learning curve. Then you use a slicer program to turn the cad into code the printer can read.
You won a subscriber with this video! I really like how you "upgrade" your 3D printer with.. itself!! Really cool man! I like your others tutorial on how to make stuff! Keep it up I'm looking forward to your next videos!
I would like to see another video about things you've learned. Settings you had to change and why. Upgrade parts you printed. I know some things would be redundant but i think you could make a nice tutorial for people that just got their machine to help them learn it.
I had mine for 4 years, and it really pisses me off, it always has problems, and the quality is bad. I'm looking for a new one, probably an ender 3 or any cubic i3 mega.
Hi everyone, I hope you are doing great! If you consider buying this printer there's numerous different versions you can choose from. In the review I use the "Standard Printer" for 198$. Find it here: bit.ly/2mSmAv5
Now the price is at $239, so $40 more than when you recorded the video. Also the option for the shipping from the German warehouse is gone (other sellers on Ali still have it but I can't select any variant of the printer then). Does someone know a reliable source in the EU for the Tarantula? As much as I like buying cheap electronics parts at Ali, I don't want to pay an additional import sales tax at the customs office or argue about CE conformity. Regarding your comparison of the printing results of the A8 with the Tarantula: Do I see it correctly, that the A8, while having some other modifications, does not have any reinforcements for the frame like you showed it for the Tarantula in this video? If so: Wouldn't this also help the A8 to increase its printing quality? I could get a A8 (or a Tronxy clone of it) from a local seller easily.
Greetings from Venezuela, Hey i have one question, do you recommend it the Automatic Platform switch and the E3D extruder? and by the way, can you explain me what function does the E3D extruder because i has been searching in forums about it, but i haven't fully understood yet. Thanks again and Great Video. keep going doing great videos like this :)
I do not agree with this review. I own this printer and had to do substantial modifications and upgrades to make it work properly. Of note the hot in is not an E3-D hot the end, you need to buy a lot of parts to make the frame rigid.
Followed link and it says now "Sale starts in 2 days" I am in the UK so it may not be the same where you are. I also noted you can get a 'coupon' for a little off as well. All the info was on the page.
Indeed, you have to factor in duty as well, I believe it is 17% for you, which is better then the UK's 20% They do say they will lower the price, but if customs is having a slow day, they will check the price and then you get a fine as well. Or you maybe lucky and not have to pay anything. Been looking for my first 3D printer for sometime I hope this will be good. I don't have a lot of money to spend on one and as you know the price you can pay goes from cheap to crazy.
TheDutyPaid i found one of the sales there it links to German warehouse, which would prevent the tax, but when I go to that link it still says send from China not Germany. Very strange, I asked the seller to confirm if it would be send from Germany. Plus on that link the upcoming sale also showed (and it has reviews of people in my country receiving it in 3 days so). I think you guys are still under eu trade law so maybe that would work 2?
Thanks for this review. I just order this printer, this will be my first 3D printer, and whaching this video helped me to decide to order it. I hope it will arrive soon to start playing whit it.
@@cheesyvin8078 Thanks for asking..... My little Tarantula is still working and printing so good..... I made minor modificactions to it and I usually print small models for teaching, puzzles, keychain and other small parts. But it has been three years by now and it is still working. I have made several creations for my clases in chemistry and some variations of puzzles. They are in thingiverse, under my user name: jcmunozac, if you want to see them. Thanks again for your original motivation to get this model.
@@jcmunozac Hey thanks for the reply and this printer sounds like wonders! Three years and still going good? That's amazing. Im currently saving up money to bye one so I wanted to know the experience of the people who bought it, so thank you! I'll be glad to check out your models!
Now you've confused me. xD Fuck mah life, I thought buying the Anet A8 would be the best bang for buck I could get, but man, this dude looks promising too! .-. Which one should I get?
RetromagneticDesigns I had the exact same problem! I decided with the tevo tarantula thanks to this video! Thanks RCLifeOn! Keep up the great vids! But I was wondering, how did you wire in the fans?
You propably wont read this but thank you so much for this review. EXACTLY what i've searched for since I already own an Anet A8 and am looking into gettting a printer at the same price range that can print just quicker.
Hi all, FYI the Anet A2 model is a copy of the Tarantula. I have the A2, its not packaged as well, and no printed instructions. But the design is the same except for tiny details like where the extruder is mounted and the joining hardware. The A2 will do ABS as well. Alot of the same tweaks are required. I also found using a newer Cura helped with corners and ringing, I think these systems have different responses to jerk and accel numbers since the heads are so light.
For the Anet A8 there is a thermostat problem with the heated bed. That's why they catch on fire often. The temperature will say 78 degrees, but it will be much hotter if you measure it using an infrared thermometer. This causes the firmware to keep dumping current into the bed, leading to melting of connectors, shorting of wires, and possibly fire.
linear ball bearings could be louder if not used well, but aluminum profiles can achieve so much precision, I think. the rest of the parts, amazing. I mean the fans, yes
Great review. I currently own an Tarantula and will receive Anet A8 soon. You say that bownden extruder has less inertia than direct extruder , so it allow faster pint. You are right, but bowden extruder also introduce ringing or salmon effect, while direct extruder seems better on that. That 's why I hope to will get better print with A8 (like Prusa) than with Tarantula.
Very informative and clear review. Thanks for taking the time to do this. How long have you had the printer now? Also, would you be able to either post a follow-up video or append some comments to the description above telling us what your thoughts are after you've been using the printer for a few weeks? Thanks. :-)
Thanks for your nice comment! I've had it for 3 weeks, and it still runs without any issues. I've had the Anet A8 for 8 months without any issues as well. I could definitely make a follow up video, thanks for your suggestion!
Why are some of the Head bigger and others smaller (at 07:15). Was it bicause you changed dimensions or was the printer not able to pull of the dimesions you gave him ?
who would dislike this, like what is there to dislike? setting it up yes its long but even if you get a $1000 3d printer you probably have to make some adjustments and it will take a long time to set up.
great video! very informative. I have some experience with the anet a8 bed heater. it can get to 100+ but the original power supply and mosfet are holding it back. I had to replace mine and now it prints abs quite well.
This was exactly the review i was looking for. i was considering the Anet A8 as my personal printer, but i will definetely go for the Tarantula now. Thank you so much! Edit: Still got a question: how did you wire the two turbofans, and where should they be connected?
Hi, great video, definitely going to treat myself on pay day. did you wire those turbo fans directly to the psu? Or is there part of the board you can wire additional fans to?
Great review of this printer, i will consider buying one of these. Do you plan to review the monoprice 3d mini printer ? its about the same price range and it is prebuilt. Nice channel Btw ;)
I think your review has been viewed by many and has boosted their sales. Now they increased the price of the printer by 20% and lead time by 200% (10 days to get the printer shipped). Happy for them but if business is good they should keep the good prices and hire more hands.
Thanks i been torn for over a month about what to order was not sure if i wanted the anet a8 or the bigger and more expansive cr-10 but this tarantula with low sound and high speed seems like a bether buy
this was a great video. I would like to know more about this process before i purchase one. I am into rc cars and like accuracy in my models and i have to make my own parts. where do you get the info to copy something you want? do i need the dims or does it work off of pictures? does it do an automatic scaling for you or do you have to do the math for that?
Great video man! I plan on buying one soon. What did you wire the fans to? Also do you recommended auto leveling or the larger plate that ali express offers?
You might want to check out this 3D printer instead: ruclips.net/video/kbmdwBwm7BU/видео.html
Why? Double the price
1) it assembles much quicker 2) the quality of the print is substantial and the mods needed are much less significant compared to the ones this one needed and 3) it can work w/ ABS. Really if the person is willing to spend the extra money this would probably b a better choice, especially if you're not too good at assembly stuff.

I ordered the Tevo Tarantula to Canada. There was no hidden fees accept that bringing it from the U.S to Canada cost me $30 tax

Very strange, I asked the seller to confirm if it would be send from Germany. Plus on that link the upcoming sale also showed (and it has reviews of people in my country receiving it in 3 days so). I think you guys are still under eu trade law so maybe that would work 2?
Amazing channel , excellent research expert knowledge and the neatest workshop I have ever seen
That is not an e3d bowden extruder. That is not even an e3d bowden style extruder.
Just saying.
Thanks for this review.
I just order this printer, this will be my first 3D printer, and whaching this video helped me to decide to order it.
I hope it will arrive soon to start playing whit it.
Hey man, how's the printer??
I would go for the TEVO Tarantula. The Anet A8 is still awesome, but from my experience I think the Tarantula performed better.
Thanks, buddy!
Get the A8 - comes with cooling fan and proper Z axis driving and bed support
I ordered a anet a8 but it got delayed so i canceled the order and chose the tevo instead saving 30$ in shpping due to where i live
I read all the comment. Thanks for your nice words!
this was a terrible printer. you got very lucky with those prints
Ender 3: hold my beer.
I heard mixed reviews about this Printer but it looks nice in your review :)
That one looks really great!
It sure is a nice printer!
Second like, first comment, Yah:)
Wow its too cheap but product is 1st easy to assemble.
linear ball bearings could be louder if not used well, but aluminum profiles can achieve so much precision, I think. the rest of the parts, amazing. I mean the fans, yes
Grattis till över 30 000 prenumeranter
Tack så mycket!
This review is accurate... For the stock Anet a8, but I have to say that after upgrades on my Anet I'm getting absolutely perfect prints
i have bought it im sooo exited!!
Hey man, Nice review~ great work
Very nice presentation. Good job.
Love this review! You earned a new sub
Came back to this video and found my own comment 😂😂
Really good video man!
Great Video and explanations. :)
I ordered one! I also subbed, you deserve more subs tbh. Also, does the printer have a dedicated parts cooling fan plug?
Great review. I currently own an Tarantula and will receive Anet A8 soon. You say that bownden extruder has less inertia than direct extruder , so it allow faster pint. You are right, but bowden extruder also introduce ringing or salmon effect, while direct extruder seems better on that. That 's why I hope to will get better print with A8 (like Prusa) than with Tarantula.
Those prints for that price? Impressive, I'm going to get one and do the same mods you have done to it.
Great job young man - great video - 3D printer is a great techology. WOuld love to get one to make some drones - thanks for sharing
Very nice, wich one do you recommend nowadays? Same price range.
Creality Ender 3 is a great printer to start with.
Great job.
I could definitely make a follow up video, thanks for your suggestion!
can you do a video on how to mount the new fans?
seriously best printer to buy
Why are some of the Head bigger and others smaller (at 07:15).
Was it bicause you changed dimensions or was the printer not able to pull of the dimesions you gave him ?
Great work !
Just ordered a tarantula i3 :)
It's worth it your hardwork
who would dislike this, like what is there to dislike? setting it up yes its long but even if you get a $1000 3d printer you probably have to make some adjustments and it will take a long time to set up.
great video! very informative. I have some experience with the anet a8 bed heater. it can get to 100+ but the original power supply and mosfet are holding it back. I had to replace mine and now it prints abs quite well.
great review!
This was exactly the review i was looking for. i was considering the Anet A8 as my personal printer, but i will definetely go for the Tarantula now. Thank you so much!
Edit: Still got a question: how did you wire the two turbofans, and where should they be connected?
Snabb fråga, hur gick det för dig med tullen? Fick du avgift och moms och i så fall vad hamnade det på? Fantastisk kanal förövrigt!
Hi, great video, definitely going to treat myself on pay day. did you wire those turbo fans directly to the psu? Or is there part of the board you can wire additional fans to?
RCLifeOn how did you wire in the two blowers? Also is it available for us plug? Btw great video!
Great video, greeting from Colombia
Thx for sharing bro. Your video helped me
First time seeing a 3D printer in action, pretty cool.
Awesome!
I thought it was pretty awesome you could actually use the printer itself to make new parts for it.
That is the origin of the 'RepRap' printers, the principle is that they can Replicate Rapidly, hence the name...
Really well done video.
hey, can you show a quick clip of how you connected the fans? wiring I mean... I don't wanna mess anything up
Very clean and concise review! Bravo! Where can we find .stl files (or gcode) for the 2 fans and the filament holder?
Hi! What's the name of your 3D maker programe?
Great review of this printer, i will consider buying one of these.
Do you plan to review the monoprice 3d mini printer ? its about the same price range and it is prebuilt.
Nice channel Btw ;)
Great review!
Great video. What program are you using at the 4:09 minute of the video? Thank you.
Hey thanks! That's Simplify3D.
Thanks.
How did you wire the fans to the printer? Was it complicated electronic work or are there wires already exposed for that purpose?
this was a great video. I would like to know more about this process before i purchase one. I am into rc cars and like accuracy in my models and i have to make my own parts. where do you get the info to copy something you want? do i need the dims or does it work off of pictures? does it do an automatic scaling for you or do you have to do the math for that?
WOW, for that price this thing is amazing!
Great video man! I plan on buying one soon. What did you wire the fans to? Also do you recommended auto leveling or the larger plate that ali express offers?
Thank you very much Luke! I connected both fans directly to the power supply. If you got the money, then go for the upgrades.
Thanks! just subbed, look forward to seeing more of your videos
stella review thanks very much
