8 years later after this speech, Jeffrey is proven right. Yet his wisdom is still neglected and has not permeated mainstream media. His call for diplomacy (and not war) with Russia and China is sadly ignored. Let's each of us do our part to spread his wise words.

But Sachs did call four wars specifically just Russia to invade which he says isn't a war he called for Russia to invade in 2014 steal 100 trillion dollars worth of Natural resources and now he's calling for Russia to invade Ukraine further to build a pipeline to Europe and in this speech he's insisting that the US should pay Russia's invasion like monetarily they should fund Russia

I am so surprised to hear your same sentiment I had in 1989 when the Russian economy collapsed. At that time, Yelsin announced to the American that we want to be on your side and we extend our hands of friendship to you. I thought that it was such a moving moment of history. We had been such big enemies for 70 years building weapons to kill each other many thousand times over and today we are entering into a new world more peaceful and more human. When the Russian economy collapsed, I expected that we come to their rescue. That what friends do! Beside, it took so little to help them. Instead, we stood on the side laughing, insulting and spitting at them. This is the most stupid and most childish things and they were done by our best people in the government! My fear at that time was that Russia collapse but they still have a huge arsenal of nuclear weapon in their hands. One day they will react when they are back on their feet and the results won't be good or maybe disastrous!

This was the beginning of Russian Century of humiliation. I am sure the day will come when the Russian have enough strength to stand up again to the West. Most likely not during my lifetime as I am in my mid 60s. It going to be a tough time for the next 2 decades since the American can only see containment of others...how sad it has come to this instead of co-existence with others & co-operations. However, U.S. policies elite have treat it as zero-sum game. Thus the Thrucydid's trap. Welcome to a Brave New World...of 21st Century. Live long & proper!!!

Mr. Sachs, my apologies - I'm one of those who blamed you for some of the things in the 1990s. I started learning that there was wrong with my view then I saw a PBS documentary (2002) and you made a comment about "the high human cost" and I noticed you were being truly honest. At the time I was 20 something and Brazil was also doing reforms and undergoing speculative attacks so we would follow the news about the emerging countries, exchange rates and I kept thinking "why are they doing that to Russia?", If not of humane reasons, at least they should be smart enough not to let conditions similar to pre WWII Germany take hold. Then I learned the ridiculous way the Privatizations were done was not your idea ... then I saw the documentary and now I'm seeing this. I really should not hold people culpable is I don't have the evidence - I'm sorry.
... oh ... why the hell PBS skipped Brazil in that 6 hour long documentary?

For realization of such ideas, there must be at least two parties willing to implement them. Otherwise, one is simply screwing over the other. In addition, it seems that simply investing in and developing the economy of a system whose foundations are not based on basic human values does not lead to the development of such human values.

I do very much appreciate Jeffrey's thoughts, the maturity of thoughts, frankness and consistency. By these, he's proven right in so many aspects he has discussed. In the las day of May, 2023, his words stand strong.
Yet, in the same time, he's so naive about Ukraine and Russia. So delusional, though full of good will. The war in Ukraine has proven the Jeffrey's critical words on the USA's geopolitical behaviour were not only righht, but too polite, too naive as well. The US is a wrong-willed state and has proven so to the core.

Mr Sachs! After the 2014 Coup the Crimea and the tiny Donbass republics declared independence because they disposed their elected president and forbid his party. Russian lost its status as 2nd language. Later that year, and ever since Kiev waged civil war against these people. After 8 years this war broke out. So it is not black and white but (very light) grey imo.

Jeffrey Sachs and Mchael Hudson (Aaron Good of _American Exception_ fame is also a rising star) know and understand more about current world economic, financial and political history than most humans alive. But corporate America marginalizes them and relegates them to youtube (an absurdity!), where fortunately for the rest of us, we can glean from their experience and wisdom.
If one wants to understand American history and geo-politics, these three gentlemen should be read and heard.
    Be well.

If economics is just the law of the jungle then all restrictions are bad for it but if the economy is for people the the barriers are essential to for the nurseries of the small fish to flourish therefore insuring an abundance of big fish and plenty of competition unless your agenda is monopoly and centralisation and the big fish getting bigger and bigger until the little fellow is once again a surf

Nice men, smart and well educated, making the public eager to follow them for the best, they are so dogmatic and stupid, badly, ignorant as an economist confess he is, I totally agree with that smart professor, could have been a Disney production.

With all due respect, I think two misperceptions are weakening Mr. Sachs narrative :
1- NATO never expanded eastward. All the Soviet Warsovia pact now soberain countries voluntarily embraced the west, and all of then fear repetition ot macabre years of Soviet repression.
2- America does not resent China's success, for the same reasons they don't that of Japan, S. Korea, etc. Realty is the Russia and China are tyranies ruled by repressive and autocratic rulers that hate the democracy and the values America represents and exemplifies to the world.
The disputable impossible to solve dilema is how to deal with these undealable guys.
Coward apeacers and Chamberlins can't and never stop them.
    Thanks.

The West did lots to help Russia. It was just such a basket case of corruption, progress was hard.
Regarding today...read the Budapest Memorandum of 1994.
