I am so sorry there is some trepidation in posting this for the public. What drew me to this channel (and keeps me coming back) is seeing how well dogs of different sizes, breeds, backgrounds, homes got along so well with one another, as well as the respect they show towards Luke, Sam, the children, and now Kitty Rose. What controversy that would evoke seems strange. One can't argue with success. And that's what we see here a hundred times over. Through Luke's firm but loving training, and Sam's gentle hand always reinforcing the love and trust being established for the pack, there is a hierarchy and respect well established and seen in each and every video shared. I say look to the positivity of the majority and not the pissitivity of the few! 💞🐾💞

Since my dog passed away this channel has been my saviour. I miss her so much but I just can’t have a dog anymore. You have fulfilled my need to be in doggie company. I don’t know why anyone would be criticising this channel. It’s so spot on in the reclamation of dogs lives. Chance is a prime example. When he came he was so on his toes and ready for anything. He’s so different. It’s hard work what’s been done. People should be acknowledging it. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe.

Most people who have dogs in their homes don't know nor understand their dogs because they use human psychology to deal with them, and that's their main issue. Using human psychology on dogs is also why a lot of people have such a disconnect with their dogs and sometimes get bit by their own dogs, as both speak a different language. If you want to understand dogs, you have to learn and understand their way of life in every way, from observing their mannerisms, body posture/ gestures, their actions etc. A lack of understanding and knowledge about dogs is also why many get put down because they were aggressive for example, but most are just misunderstood. In essence, think like a dog.

As a retired teacher with 35 years of teaching under my belt, I feel I can equate the pack dynamics to the dynamics of a classroom of 9 year olds, you get to know your kids,,who can be trusted, who's sucking up to you, and definitely who you want to keep in sight at all times...the kid who's on his way to do something naughty and glances back at you to see if you're watching and realizes your eyes are one him and just goes on his way...always be the leader of the pack...or the class!!!

I'm a big Chacey boy fan and he has made so much progress being in The Farm environment after having such a hard start in life. Yesterday's post was obvious to see the joy he displayed jumping around like an excited pup before his bush walk and now engaging in the fun times more than the trying-to-be good times. I feel so good for him to finally find his doggie happiness X

It's remarkable.. I can see the relaxation of Chance's and the other dogs body language. There was such tension in the air when he was first integrated into the pack. Chance is progressing so much and really wants to please Luke and do the right thing. I see similarities between Chance and Freddo when Freddo was a shelter dog and being trained at the farm. I felt like Freddo was kind of an independent spirit and on the fringes, not really interacting. I see that in Chance too, but he is slowly blending in a little more and more each day.

Sam have no fear. We love you all. No one understands this pack better than you and Luke. Loved seeing Hope playing with her little piggy. Lily found the biggest stick she could for the bush walk. When Luke says something is living in that wood pile, I'm with Sam let's move on. It is awesome the way Luke and Sam not only know each member of the pack but how their breed comes into play. The story of Tilly just acting out quietly what she would do when a member walks by her when they first got her and let her know she couldn no longer nip the others so she just mouths what she wants to do. Freddo letting the visitors know this is his place and he takes his job as the Sheriff very seriously. Our dearest Sam don't worry about what people think so much. Sam is the den Mum everyone loves her but there is only one Pack Leader Luke. Tilly loves tires. Hope Sam is okay after trying to catch the bike. Loved listening to Luke explain the pack dynamic it is so cool to see it playing out in your pack. Most people don't have the number of dogs you have in their pack so they can not understand all the little things y'all see. Loved this video. Bandit feel better buddy.

I think one of the misunderstandings of pack dynamics is that anyone at the top is the most important or valuable member of the pack. What we tend to forget is that the strongest leaders are the ones with the strongest support within the pack. Protectors, providers, peace keepers, entertainers etc. All are valuable and neccesary in their own right and an asset to the pack.

  • @Spinonemaster
    @Spinonemaster Год назад +37

I've been training powerful guard breeds (Bouvier des Flandres, as well as upland bird dogs, Spinone) for 50 years ... I agree with Luke, domestication may have changed size, shape and demeanor ... but basically they are Wolves genetically/mentally ... and Wolves have a hard earned status in their pack ... psychical strength/endurance is paramount ... followed by skill/wisdom/personality .... and the ability to enforce the very important pack rules ... when i train a dog, I train first for basic obedience ... first for humans safety, then for the dogs safety ... recall, sit, stay ... and "off" .. "leave it" .... most dogs when approached with a firm/fair/kind hand in a training routine are eager to learn/please .... and young or "problem" dogs need a lot of patience ... that's where routine, exercise and consistency pays off ... your dog IS judging you always ... and they appreciate a firm, yet fair hand of a leader .... my dogs and the ones I train know that I am the Boss ... the Pack Leader ... training owners, people, families are much harder to do ... and yes Luke, when I train for dogs to be around kids I instill in the dog that their role in the pack is to "guard" the children ... and to teach the dog that calmness and reliability is paramount around them ... and yes, children also need to be trained how to act around dogs ... no teasing, sitting on them, no pulling tails, taking their food, etc .... I remember being young, hanging around top trainers and they would speak of certain people as being a "Solid Dog Person" ... meaning they were experienced and skilled in handing them ... dogs respected them instantly ... I'm glad you posted the video, in spite of the many varied approaches to dog training .... everyone's a dog "expert" these days ... and the first question I ask is ... "well, exactly how many dogs have you trained, and for what purpose, and to what level ?" .... when I was young I jumped out of helicopters in the Tetons at 10,000 ft in winter with my S&R dogs to try to find skiers buried in avalanches ... and spent hours at high altitude/back country tracking for lost hikers with my dogs ... that's a level and training and bonding that most will never know ... and I relied on my teammate to keep me safe as well, we worked as a team ... a dogs intuition and "nose" is invaluable in dangerous situations/terrain ... including alerting to dangerous predators (Wolves/Bears/Cougars) ... I'm retired now and just train my Bouviers to be good canine citizens ...

Some people are unbelievable. It doesn't matter how good you are or how much good you do; there will always be some idiot out there that will want to bring you down. They get off on it, knowing that they are causing you pain and worry. Unfortunately for us as human beings, we will always second guess ourselves when it comes to negative comments; even if we get thousands of beautiful ones, it is the negative ones that stay with us. You guys are beautiful souls, and that shows in the dogs, well, actually, it shows in everything around you. We only see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to everything that you have given and given up for these dogs.

Then you can recognize who's who, after you accept the pack leader role yourself! Too many want the dogs to do it all and still listen and respect their owner. It's great hearing you discuss the subjects, plus we get a little of Luke's humor and I love it. Hope your pizza was good cause it had to be cold as ice by the time you got to it. Sam, praying you were not hurt too badly with the bike falling over. Obviously, Tilly "forgot" her rules regarding the tires! There are a lot of what we in the U.S. call "armchair quarterbacks," who criticize what the professionals do even though they aren't pros themselves, thinking in the realm of their own limited personal experience that they know better. Luke is the expert here, and unless a commenter has equivalent experience, maybe they shouldn't argue about pack dynamics with him. I came to watch the dogs playing and have stayed because of the amazing things that I'm learning with these valuable conversations between you and Luke. Sam, please don't feel the need to apologize for this sort of thing, because there is so much interesting and important knowledge that you two are passing on. I think there's room for both long dialogues and happy dogs at play. We have an 11 year old Border Collie x Malamute who has been with us since he was 3 months old, and just recently acquired a street rescue Pointer x Doberman, approximately 1 year old, and the interactions and dynamics you discussed yesterday has already given me a lot of information and cues to look for between my dogs. They've been together just over a month and still have a LOT of kinks to work out before I trust them completely together. Please keep the observations coming, as well as the happy dogs at play! I think a problem in "the real world" is that some people think training dogs means insisting/making them do what the owner says, whatever it is, in any circumstances. It does make sense for dogs to value strength in their leader so highly, as the leader is expected to physically protect and watch out for the entire pack, particularly in the wild. Much as I love the Sheriff and would want him to be Luke's second forever, I now understand why Freddo would be stepping back when he gets older. I am glad that Luke is an excellent leader, because he can protect all aging and/or ailing dogs in the pack and make sure they remain highly respected by the younger, newer ones.
I suspect that this finding a good leader business is also the challenge in placing dogs like Freddo, Roscoe and Chance. The leader must always be consistent and clear with the boundaries because when he is not, the dog gets confusing signals, does the wrong thing one time too many, and gets surrendered or worse, abandoned.

But seeing Cutie Pie and Doug and Etta etc it makes sense! They are all very entertaining! And I could TOTALLY see Cutie Pie taking Top Dog position of a wild (Disney 😉) pack.
I don't even want to think about what a fight for top dog between Freddo and Chance would look like. I've seen some pretty nasty dog fights 😳 They are both very fortunate to have Luke there so they don't need to duke it out.
I think pack dynamics are entirely fascinating. Both for domestic and wild dogs. And to see dogs vying to move up in rank is interesting to watch, if it's just something like Shadow trying to sneak into Joey's position, rather than 2 big dogs in the ring fighting for pack leader.

I just want to say how much I appreciate all of your descriptions of the videos, Sam. I read them prior to watching for some reason. Anyway, I have always owned one or two dogs at a time and have learned more about all dogs from watching your videos than I ever learned through dog ownership. In fact, I wish I had known so much in earlier years when I took on a rescue basset hound and a bred for sale boxer. I never understood either of them or the dynamics between them as I might have. We all did get along and the dogs knew they were truly loved, but it would have been better for all involved if I had been more educated. Therefore, thank you for all pack discussions as well as just the sweet, entertaining videos.

I never knew a pack in the wild would post a stronger pack member to the back to protect the weaker and older 💕

Nor me. That is awesome. I thought only humans protected the weak. Ignorant me. So pleased to hear I was totally wrong. Dogs are even more awesome than I thought ❤

I have realized that the Wisdom of dealing with a “pack” can be applied to children being a member of the Family “pack”!
Being a teacher for 43 years with effective training, this could also apply to the classroom. I pray people can see, hear and apply the topics you are discussing.

Since we are talking about the pack dynamics. I wonder how the dogs with extra needs are thought upon by the others. I am in awe of miss violet, when I think of that little puppy in Luke’s hand at the table and everyone so concerned to see her now and her ‘ don’t tell me I can’t ‘ attitude is amazing. I watch the videos and actually forget she has her struggles as nothing stops her. All the dogs seem accepting of each other regardless of their disability but is this really how it is. Sorry it’s a bit of a long winded one but it fascinates me and think they really could teach us humans a thing or 2.

I really enjoyed today's video, very informative 👍.. Not sure Mumma Sam realises how much loved and respected she is by the pack tho ... I understand that she is not "top dog"... Luke is definitely that but for me watching at home, I love, love, love seeing the dogs check in with her regularly for a hug, kiss and maybe a sneaky treat ... Sam your motherly role is so important and I believe that you bring something very special to the dogs... I remember the first time I saw Hope and Faith come to you for "a touch" ... that brought tears to my eyes because at the time they were so untrusting ... Shadow and the staffy sisters adore you and Freddo and Roscoe's hearts melt when you give them ♥️ .. thanks for all you do ...great video

I am in complete agreement with you Luke. Humans are the leader of the pack. It makes the dogs calmer, knowing what is expected of them. Sam, hope you are okay… queen tilly in action….

Another fantastic video. If someone doesn’t like what Luke and Sam have to say or do, don’t watch this channel. It’s that easy. Even in my old age 😂, I’ve learned quite a lot about what to do or look for in our pack of 2 dogs and 6 grand dogs. Our almost 15 year old dog has lost some of his sight, hearing and mobility. How Luke and Sam interact with Maggie and Miss Violet has helped me with making Chewy’s life a bit easier. So Luke and Sam- thank you. You’re the best. Keep doing what you do and keep true to yourselves. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Oh, dearest Tilly. 👍👍❤❤ Dearest Freddo--the protector. ❤❤ Cutie Pie and Doug--how you have delighted us. ❤❤ Cutie Pie could be the Under-Sheriff. 🤣🤣

Every good job needs 20 supervisors. I love the positions dogs can sleep in. Most look very uncomfortable but they must be comfortable because the dog continues to sleep.

When Luke talks about his military life transition to civilian, I am reminded of a wonderful program called PATHH here in South Carolina, USA. The group called The Big Red Barn Retreat help veterans in many different ways. The facility is located on a vast and beautiful track of land. Equine therapy is one example of a program where they hand a halter to the veteran and ask them to put it on the horse. Horses are so pure in reading people their response is the learning moment. The facility is huge with miles of paths and places to sit and relax. I just wanted you to know how one group of dedicated people are helping our veterans find a way to cope with civilian life.
