  • Catheterization and angiography of the left branch of the middle colic artery (by my colleague Driss Raissi) captured at 3 frames a second at a resolution of 1024 x 1024 pixels. AI resolution upscaling to 4K and motion based interpolation for x3 slow motion and 60 FPS.
The angiogram shows a type two endoleak from retrograde flow into the endosac via the inferior mesenteric artery despite prior coil embolization attempts. The most medial arterial arcade with the greatest lumen diameter is the arc of Riolan. This vessel is located deep within the mesentery. The more laterally situated arcade is the marginal artery of Drummond. This vessel courses along the mesenteric margin of the large intestine. Its branches include the vasa recta, vasa recta longa, and vasa recta brevia. The brevia (short) branches in turn give rise to the nutrient arteries that pierce the muscularis propria layer of the colon. It is where these vessels traverse the muscularis propria that the wall of the colon is weakest and where colonic pseudodiverticula form. This is the anatomic basis for the condition "diverticulosis" (a misnomer, given that the pseudodiverticula of this condition are formed by evagination of muscosa through defects in the muscularis propria).
