this is a godlike movie. seriously imagine watching this in theatre in 80s and when the credits roll you would belike oh my god how could you end it there and make me wait for 3 years to see what happens next. thats insane
First thing....how is this a "godlike" movie? Second thing....Ending on a cliffhanger is not a good thing for a movie, it depends too much on its future sequel.
Wlof25 well... it really depends on the quality of the movie. If we don't care about anything that's happening, then obviously a cliffhanger is not a very affective way to end the movie. But Empire was the middle of a franchise, which is the best point for your characters to be really down on their luck, making a cliffhanger is worthy ending. The cliffhanger was frustrating for fans at the time, but it works because the movie felt genuine in it's usage of it, like the film makers actually wanted the viewer to feel sad by the end of the film, where some movies only implement cliffhangers for the sake of getting people to see the next movie because they know their movie's not good enough to stand on it's own.
0816Egg Some people would disagree, like Joss Whedon. If my memory serves me right, he said that movie needs to be self contained, or something like that and when you think about it, people are getting an episode, which they need to wait fro3 years to watch what is happening next, what can be frustrating. As for the quality of the movie. I think we can agree that it was a good movie for its time, but it aged. If I am to make a movie with those kind of dialog and acting, today, that movie would be laughed at and panned. We also have bad writing in the movie, pacing problems, plot holes and inconsistencies. When you take everything into consideration, obviously this movie cant be godlike movie, nor one of the best movie ever made, how Jeremy have put it.
Best Movie Sequels (In no particular order) Terminator 2: Judgement Day Aliens Spider-Man 2 The Empire Strikes Back The Dark Knight Toy Story 2 The Godfather Part II X2: X-Men United Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
I was 12 years old in 81. When I saw Empire for the first time and the credits started to roll at the end, I stood up and announced to everyone in the theater that they were making a third movie and that they had 15 minutes to do it. I would wait. I stood looking at the screen, looked at the projection booth, back to the screen, sincerely waiting for the third installment. That was my introduction to the concept of cliffhangers...and for the next 3 years, everyone in the world debated whether Vader was lying or not. And that's how it was.
A comic explains that Vader found out about Luke through his own methods but acted like he didn't know when told by Palpatine because he (Vader) had plans of turning Luke and killing the emperor. That's really cool actually
Lol. Lucas quickly inserted an awkward scene with kids with lightsaber who had no clue what they doing after being called out for forgettomg Yoda trained Obi-wan. You act like that was plan all along.
Matthew Schneider correcting a mistake is better than keeping it. The plot of Phantom Menace needed Qui Gon as Obi Wan’s master. Yeah the plot of the prequels were stupid but at least George did his best and you should stop hating on the guy
I don't really see the problem with Qui-Gon being Obi-Wan's master. I mean, people can have multiple teachers in life. He simply learned from Yoda and was apprenticed to Qui-Gon later. It's not like people in real life have the same teacher from kindergarten to high school.
This may be true, but even then, don't go comparing the arts of training to become a Jedi with boring-ass school where they want you to become a rocket scientist or something.
Anakin is 10 in Phantom Menace, but Padawans are not what Jedi start out as. You're supposed to have several years of introductory training as an Initiate before you can take the test required to become a Padawan. The reason they thought Anakin was too old was because he wasn't born into the Jedi way, so he might be too attached to the outside world to become an efficient Jedi.
ElongatedVowels Qui-Gon was probably the best part of Episode 1 and Liam Neeson was the absolute best casting choice ever for a Jedi Master. He was brilliant. And I agree, Qui-Gon was dope as one of Obi-Wan's master.
"The force is with you young Skywalker... but you are not a Jedi yet" Gosh that line. It's so threatening and disarming. Luke tries to stone face through it but he knows it's absolutely true.
I'm not sure, but i don't think the Empire using the AT-ATs instead of just blowing up the base with their ships was a plot hole: The rebels had that huge anti-ship cannon, so the Empire had to approach from the ground.
Not only that, even the rebel ships couldn't fly with the shield up. If you listen to the dialogue right before the battle starts, you'll hear that they had to temporarily deactivate the shield when the first transport departed.
I think the reason why it is one of the best movies of all time is because they took a director who understood characters. Oh...and it's got the coolest sci-fi vehicle ever made...the AT-AT's :D
Watched this review, then rewatched Empire Strikes Back for the umpteenth time. Only now I just noticed that, even though it appears that the Emperor is telling Vader about Luke for the first time (goddamn special edition), at the beginning of the movie Vader mentions Skywalker BY NAME before they even get to Hoth. Great continuity Lucas, truly masterful.
Nuclear Matt I agree, it's one thing to contradict another movie in the same series (i.e. Qui Gon being Obi Wan's master instead of Yoda) but another thing to contradict a plot point within the same movie. Smdh
Yoda is like the master of masters 900 yo eldest ultimate jedi master who trained all younglings at some point till anakin... hes old enough to have taught Dooku, Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka's master at some point. he even taughts some stuff to Ezra Bridger.
Incoming nerd moment...must fight it...GAH I cant stop it! Nerd Moment: The Empire did not bring any large ships down to bombard the shield generator due to the shield itself. It is stated in the movie that the shield was strong enough to deflect any bombardment. This required a surface attack. to take it out. Nerd moment over.
He did, the movie from the beggining establishes that Vader knows who Luke is and that's why he is going after him, but after Lucas changed the emperor dialogue he created a plot hole because god know why, now we're supposed to think vader only then realizes about luke which makes no sense since he is already frantically searching for him, why would vader go after luke if he didn't know who he is, the change in the special edition fucked it up, it was good before
I hope they just release it altogether, all we have now is a not so good 2006 dvd widescreen laserdisc rip as a bonus disc and a few old vhs and laserdiscs
***** What I hope is they realease the visual improvements but remove stupid shit like "Greedo shot first" and maybe keep the emperor scene visual but old audio. Original version is great but you have got to admit they did improve a lot in many scenes, like the attack on the first death star.
The best version of the emperor dialogue was the early DVD version: "We have a new enemy--*Young* Skywalker." There, both Vader and the Emperor already knew his name, and Palpatine was just saying "He's more dangerous than we thought."
Have you trucking lost your mind?! Star Wars 3 is so damn better than 6/10, the choreography, the soundtrack, the final act, the story overall and palpatine’s way to turn Anakin to the dark side make it at least 7.5/10. The phantom menace and attack of the clones are objectively viewed at least at around 5/10, if only for the atmosphere and the originality.
Well, you're both wrong. TimDeuces, "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" wasn't the second episode. "Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones" is the second one. And you, Albee213, just because "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" was released, doesn't mean that you never gonna watch the old prequels. That's untrue.
So as I have noticed, a lot of "movie journalists" constantly hail Lucas as the guy who made Star Wars and deserves all of the credit. Hell, even Wikipedia accounts of Star Wars pre-production fail to ever mention that the script revisions weren't Lucas' idea. Here's what's actually true: Lucas can AND should be credited with the initial spark, and commended for the shit he put up with when filming on site. THAT'S IT. Everything else that was good about Star Wars is the work of everyone who isn't Lucas. They are the ones who made him revise the incoherent and bizarre script into a short and sweet story, they are the ones who kept Lucas' wild ideas in line, and they are the ones who he constantly worked to discredit because they didn't put up with his shit. If you've seen behind the scenes of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Lucas is a lunatic who tries to shove every idea he has into a movie. A lunatic with some really good ideas, but a lunatic nonetheless.
The scene where Luke actually gets away when the Falcon FINALLY goes into hyperspace, and Vader is so disappointed in his men that he decides to just walk away in anger, and not kill the man in charge from his crew gives me chills, and is my favorite part of the movie.
The part about Vader first learning of Luke is incorrect. Vader already knew and was keeping it from The Emporer that he knew. This is covered in the comics.
I remember In high school, a teacher asked for our favorite movie. This girl said that Star Wars II was her favorite movie of all time, I almost cried that day. I mean, what da fuck? Who in their right mind chooses episode II over the Empire Strikes Back? Let alone saying that's their favorite movie of all time.
Speaking as a pretty level headed person, I'm shocked. Empire was amazing! Although there were times where I'm like, "Come on Luke! Stop complaining! You're going to become a badass so chill dude".
Star Wars (1977)- 9.5/10 Empire Strike Back- 10/10 Return of the Jedi- 8.5/10 Phantom Menace- 5/10 Attack of the Clones- 3.5/10 Revenge of the Sith- 6.5/10 EDIT (1/11/2016): Okay, after recently rewatching all the film, my score for the original trilogy remains the same, but my scores for the prequels have changed thusly: Phantom Menace- 5.5/10 (bad, but not quite as terrible as everyone makes it out to be) Attack of the Cones- 2.5/10 (honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen) Revenge of the Sith- 4.5/10 (really not as "good", or "decent" or "passable" as everyone says it is. Worse than TPM, although still better than AotC) As for The Force Awakens- 9/10 But the one that everyone is dying to know is....... The Star Wars Holiday Special- 15/10
4th Dimention Studio Nah, I'm fine with how I rated those two. I think Phantom Menace is bad, but I also think people really tend to exaggerate just how terrible it is, mostly because they (understandably) are incredibly disappointed by it as a Star Wars movie. Looking at it objectively, just as standalone movie and ignoring the Star Wars title, it's still bad but it's far from the worst thing ever. It's nowhere close to Battlefield Earth or The Last Airbender bad. So I think it's more disappointing than it is objectively terrible. Return of the Jedi, while still enjoyable to watch, is an incredibly flawed movie. I'd be lying if I said that while watching it I tend to think of ways it could have been so much better. The only rating I'm kind of regretting is for Revenge of the Sith. I feel like I was a bit too generous with that one.
+Sofia A Spot on. I might be tempted to give RotS a 7, if only for the Emperor and a handful of scenes. But it sure did still have a lot of stupid shit in it.
Can you imagine watching that and having to wait hopefully for a third movie, for 3 years? Phew! Waiting a week for Mandalorian is hard enough for lots of fans of netflix binge style
I actually like the changed dialogue in the scene between the Emperor and Vader. It adds an extra level of intrigue to the movie. I thought it was obvious that Vader was lying to Palpatine about not knowing about Luke, since Vader wanted to use Luke to overthrow him.
It was actually confirmed that Vader was lying too. Between the events of A New Hope and Empire, it was actually Boba Fett who told Vader what Luke’s name was.
Same boat. I mean, in the first scene you see Vader's obsessed with finding the Rebels, "That is the system, and I'm sure Skywalker is with them." So we are to believe that Vader senses a Force sensitive in A New Hope during the Battle of Yavin, and now the Rebels have a member who is named Skywalker...and he doesn't make the connection. And he's obsessed with this kid, who happens to have his last name, but doesn't realize it's his son until the Emperor...no. Vader was playing coy, trying to pretend he didn't already know. But I can see where that could be confusing if you don't sit there and jig-saw the dang thing together.
This is why I love Jeremy's reviews. His awareness and knowledge of how the prequels f***ed up the entire franchise right down to the reasons Vader was looking for Skywalker is awesome, and completely valid. Great work, dude.
There is no need for prequels to do anything, the first trilogy f***ed it self up with all of the plot holes, inconsistencies, bad writing and characters.
Star Wars : 10 / 10 The Empire Strikes Back : 10 / 10 Return of the Jedi : 9.5 / 10 The Phantom Menace : 6.5 / 10 Attack of the Clones : 6 / 10 Revenge of the Sith : 10 / 10 The Force Awakens : 7 / 10
I would put Rogue One after Return Of The Jedi. For years, Empire was the least favorite out of the 3 original movies. Return of the Jedi is my most favorite, 1. Return Of The Jedi 2, A New Hope/Empire Strikes Back/Rogue One 3, Revenge Of The Sith 4. Attack Of The Clones/Phantom Menace 5. Solo (but I have not seen it) 6. Force Awakens (I have seen) 7. The Last Jedi/Rise Of Skywalker (have not seen, no plans to see)
@@elizabeths50 Return of the Jedi is also one of my favourites. That climax alone in the Emperor's Throne Room is the greatest Star Wars scene in the entire saga. Phantom Menace: 7/10 Attack of the Clones: 2/10 Revenge of the Sith: 8/10 Solo: 4/10 Rogue One: 10/10 Star Wars: 10/10 Empire Strikes Back: 10/10 Return of the Jedi: 10/10 The Force Awakens: 7/10 The Last Jedi: 3/10 Rise of Skywalker: 6/10
Star Wars: 9/10 Empire Strikes Back: 10/10 Return of the Jedi: 8/10 Phantom Menace: 5.5/10 Attack of the Clones: 7/10 Revenge of the Sith: 9.5/10 Force Awakens: 8.5/10 Last Jedi: 9/10 Rise of Skywalker: 6/10
Yoda was the teacher for many of the young padawans in the temple, so it makes sense that Obi-Wan would have gotten some training from him initially until Qui-Gon selected him as his personal apprentice.
I remember when James Earl Jones was interviewed for the "Empire of Dreams" documentary, he mentioned thinking Vader was lying, upon reading that line in his recording session. Its still one of the biggest moments in the saga (so far), but I'm hoping "The Force Awakens" offers another one.
Yoda respectfully stepped in as Obi Won's master when Qui Gon died. The reason they did that instead of just letting Obi pass the trails, say his vows, etc, was because Qui Gon was killed and it would've brought out raw emotion in Obi so he would need a little longer with the training.
I don't remember anything that has ever said that. It's more likely since we're retconning that Yoda pretty much trains every Jedi in something during their training time. You see him in AotC training a bunch of younglings with lightsabers. Further, Obi-Wan is known to stretch the truth a bit to fit his narrative (darth Vader killed anakin) and it's easier to say Yoda trained him rather than just saying Yoda is a good trainer. It makes it more personal.
+Mike Kaess yoda tells obi wan that he knows how to contact qui gon at the end of ROTS so yoda teachs him how to ergo yoda taught him, and is therfore one of his masters
Star Wars 5/5 Empire Strikes Back 5/5 Return of The Jedi 5/5 Phantom Menace 2/5 Attack of The Clones 3.5/5 Revenge of the Sith 4.5/5 The Force Awakens 5/5 setting my expectations high!
Star Wars 4.5/5 The Empire Strikes Back 5/5 Return of the Jedi 3.5/5 The Phantom Menace 3/5 Attack of the Clones 1.5/5 Revenge of the Sith 2/5 Here's to hoping The Force Awakens can capture some of the magic of the first two films, while doing it's own thing.
Veer Guha noooo Star Wars 5/5 Empire 5/5 Jedi 4/5 Phantom menace 2/5 Clones 1/5 maybe 2/5 Sith 3/5 you greatly over estimate the prequels, honestly for me they lowered the power of the series as a whole
alex krakowski urs make sense... New star wars the worst movie ever made... But expectation high for the new... Iko is in the movie... That dude can fight...
1:54 Because Admiral Ozzel came out of light speed too close to Hoth so that the Rebels knew the Empire were coming. The shield was strong enough to deflect any attack.
Kinda funny how Jorge Lucas is pretty much IRL Darth Vader, cause he was a pretty cool guy when he made the original trilogy. Then we turned to the dark side and made the prequels and after that he had a brief moment of redemption when he sold star wars to Disney.
K den IV, V, VI. I, II, III. Now we are waiting for VIII, IX, VII has just been done this year. episode I in 3D had the extended version at the cinema, also with the best lightsabre dual of all time. George Lucas still has ILM so all good in my book...
Saw this in the theater when I was 6 years old and I'll never forget how the audience erupted at the opening text crawl. I hadn't even seen the first Star Wars at that point, but could tell I was seeing something incredible. And even today, it's still an incredible experience. I think it's a true piece of art as well as a great piece of blockbuster cinema.
I remember watching ESB for the first time when I was 9. I didn't get up for anything the whole time it was on, I remember being so shocked after the end of the movie that I ran to my dad and asked if Darth Vader was telling the truth. It is, to this day, my favorite movie of all time. We didn't own Return of the Jedi at the time I watched episode 5, but if we had I would have popped it into the vcr(remember those?) and watched it right after empire.
an alternate version in the story I heard of was used during the "luke I am your father scene" and the part where luke says his lines "that's not true! ect" was his reaction to the alternate version of what vader said, which is "obi-wan never told you what happened to your father?" "he told me you killed him" "no, obi-wan killed your father" and I don't know why, but I actually liked the sound of that, its just if that line was actually used, I don't know certain scenes would have then played out
My ratings for all the Star Wars movies: Star Wars (1977) 9.6/10 Empire Strikes Back 10/10 Return of the Jedi 8.5/10 The Phantom Menace 5/10 Attack of the Clones 6.4/10 Revenge of the Sith 8.6/10
RotS over RotJ? I respect your opinion but RotJ was awesome...and I honestly kind of like the Ewoks, they aren't even that annoying...the scenes with Luke, Vader, and Sidious are unforgettably incredible...also, the Jabba scene was pretty awesome and so was the Battle of Endor and the ending is really emotional
Michael.RUclips yeah Return of the Jedi was a good movie and if there was no ewoks it would've gotten got a 8.9! I mean come on! A bunch of little teddy bears being able to take down fucking soldiers with guns and shit. Also Revenge of the Sith was a brilliant movie.
Star Wars (1977) 9.6/10 Empire Strikes Back 10/10 Return of the Jedi 8.8/10 The Phantom Menace 5/10 Attack of the Clones 6.4/10 Revenge of the Sith 8.1/10
I'm a massive Star Wars fan and a huge cinema enthusiast, and I started with the originals. However, I like 3 best. It captures the grand scale of what's happening and the emotions of all those involved the best of all the Star Wars movies IMO, and Anakin's final turning to the dark side was highly interesting to watch. In fact, I feel that with some more exposition 3 could function as it's own prequel to the originals
This is one of my favorite movies ever. I used to watch it when I was seven years old and home alone. I re-watched yesterday, for the first time in years, and holy crap! I had totally forgotten how good it is
I'm a huge Star Wars geek and I still like Jedi the best. *shrug* I guess it's just something about the whole Jabba situation, Yoda unexpectedly telling Luke his training is complete, the forest moon chase, Luke's maturity, and a few other things that I like a lot better than the others.
Liking Return of the Jedi more than Empire is totally acceptable, though I disagree. The other day a friend told me Phantom Menace was his favourite (he wasn't kidding either). We were at a restaurant and I almost walked out from shame haha - that is waaaay past where I draw the line!
Although Attack of the Clones is probably my least favorite, if ***** likes it, just let him like it. Hell, sometimes I think half the people who hate on the prequels just do it because it's "cool" to hate on them.
1:53 Plus, the rebels had that big ass ion cannon that would have shot down any imperial ships. So yeah, ground approach with AT-AT's was actually necessary.
2:50 - 3:20 I agree it doesn't make sense in terms of the movie. Remember also, when Captain Piett showed Vader the Hoth readings that revealed the Rebel base, Vader said "I'm sure Skywalker is with them." So clearly he knew he had a son before his talk with the Emperor, unless there's a Rebel strong in the Force who also just happens to have the last surname as him. I heard somewhere that Vader was just PRETENDING not to know when the Emperor told him, which would make sense since he wants to overthrow him, but who knows for sure.
Frankly, this episode got the worst changes in the special edition. Not only the emperor stuff, no, the wampa thing killed the tension of the scene, because the fact that we don't see him, and we don't know where he is, we just see a bits of his boddy approching, that was enough and that was scary as shit. And even the window, it's less clostrophobique... THAT IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM ! The all movie is supposed to be clostrophobique, it's the irony of this big universe, that we fell trapped either way so make a scene less clostrophobique destroy this artistic intention that make the movie so intense.
every now and again i put in my blu-ray copy of Empire Strikes Back and leave it on the menu screen where it is playing the Imperial March theme and listen for hours... still get goosebumps.
Empire Strikes Back! The most important installment of the Star War series (Yes, series...and not Trilogy). This is the one that makes it all worth it...the one that ties everything together and makes you want to see more. Without this movie...Star Wars just wouldn't be the same. I salute this review. It is...AWESOMETACULAR!!!
I hate the way they changed Boba Fett's voice in the special edition to being by the prequel Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison. Jason Wingreen was so much better because it was a less ordinary normal and more Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin meets Darth Vader.
This movie really is one of the great movies of all time. Top 10 at least. Certainly worthy of a rating above "Awesometacular". A movie like this such be in the rarified atmosphere of "Uber Awesometacular". Or just "Empire Strikes Back Awesometacular". I am so happy the creative guys behind this movie are involved in the new one, even if the crossguard lightsaber is making an appearance - though even that is slowly, but quite steadily, growing on me. Being an Expanded Universe and SWTOR/KOTOR nerd, the idea of the main villain of the movie digging into the ancient history of the Sith and coming back with a proto-saber like that, among other things, is pretty fucking awesome when you really think about it. Probably see a lot more Sith Alchemy and all.
Favorite Star Wars films from greatest to least: 1. The Empire Strikes Back 2. Star Wars 3. The Last Jedi 4. The Force Awakens 5. Return of the Jedi 6. Revenge of the Sith 7. Rogue One 8. Solo 9. The Phantom Menace 10. Attack of the Clones
Well also take into consideration that Darth Vader sensed the force in Luke during the trench run and when he realized he blew up the death star and survived he's like "oh damn I need to see what's up with this guy"
Allright, im gonna cheat a little and ask this pretty simple question: which segment from Empire was your FAVORITE? The Battle on Hoth, or The arrival on Bespin City scene? (from entering Bespin airspace to Lando's betraval). For me, the City in the Clouds segment NEVER fades out of my memory, from William's sweeping orchestral piece to the gorgeous cloud formations and Cloud City shown in MASSIVE scale! To this day, anytime I look up in the sky and I see billowing clouds, I hear that music and imagine Bespin City is just coming into view.... ahh, daydreaming :)
The Battle of Hoth, Luke training in Dagobah, finding out that Vader was his dad, any scene with Boba Fett in it, Han getting frozen in carbonite. There are just so many to choose from
I haven't watched these films in years and recently got the Blu Ray collection. I have to say that I enjoyed Star Wars: A New Hope more than I did The Empire Strikes Back. I loved the more subtle moments in the original and it felt like more of an adventure than The Empire Strikes Back. I'd give A New Hope 9/10 and Empire Strikes Back 8/10
Yep, this is one of the best movies ever made, this is the one I rank as #1 Star Wars, but I also rank this as #9 in my personal favorite movies overall, and A New Hope is # 12 in my list of personal favorites.
Star Wars: 9/10 Empire Strikes Back: 10/10 Return of the Jedi: 8.5/10 *Need to make a gap here Phantom Menace: 4/10 Attack of the Clones: 2/10 Revenge of the Sith: 6/10
Empire was actually the first SW film i ever saw...and i saw it in the cinema. Completely blew my mind at the age of 6. Had to wait almost 2 years to watch the first film on HBO 😑
The 3 best sequels ever
1) Empire Strikes Back
2) God Father 2
3) The Dark Knight
Luke Skywalker thats the 4th best ;)
I'd put Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Toy Story's 2 and 3, Spiderman 2 and The Dark Knight Rises in there as well
***** Hobbit 2
the winterassassin999 You've no taste in good films kid

Take that, Georgie!
I was 12 years old in 81. When I saw Empire for the first time and the credits started to roll at the end, I stood up and announced to everyone in the theater that they were making a third movie and that they had 15 minutes to do it. That was my introduction to the concept of cliffhangers...and for the next 3 years, everyone in the world debated whether Vader was lying or not. And that's how it was.
Just curious, because our Patronyme with "TT" is way less usual, are you in Europe or Canada or the States?
The Empire Strikes Back is definitely the best! :D
+StarGeek its you oh my gob big fan
+coconuthead productions(brickmasters101) Thank you!
+MRWorldGuy Ouch! That hurts!
Groundhog Day is really worth also checking out!
I like your videos
A comic explains that Vader found out about Luke through his own methods but acted like he didn't know when told by Palpatine because he (Vader) had plans of turning Luke and killing the emperor. That's really cool actually
It makes sense because of Vader saying to Luke, you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny
Racist Bassist it is the way of the sith.
I love that scene. Vader gets pissed and creates cracks on the windows with the force.
Sad to say... back then... Attack of the Clones was my favorite. (Gets 1000 lightsabers pointed at neck) I WAS 8 OKAY?!?!?
+Bacon Arcade sadly it was mine too.....
Can I cry on your shirt?
sure.
(Crashes through your wall)
I can understand that. I loved it when I saw it the first few times, at age 10 or 11
Yoda says that he trained Obi-Wan because, as we found out in the prequels, Yoda trains all of the Jedi younglings.
Lol. Lucas quickly inserted an awkward scene with kids with lightsaber who had no clue what they doing after being called out for forgettomg Yoda trained Obi-wan. You act like that was plan all along.
Matthew Schneider well my comment got more likes than your nerd
Matthew Schneider correcting a mistake is better than keeping it. The plot of Phantom Menace needed Qui Gon as Obi Wan’s master. Yeah the plot of the prequels were stupid but at least George did his best and you should stop hating on the guy

@@a_mc1569 And how was it stupid exactly? Telling the story of how a republic falls and how a hero turns bad is awesome
Technically it was Count Dooku.
Well, Jedi don't become Padawans until about age 10-13, so that's plenty of time for Yoda to have taught Obi-Wan.
"The force is with you young Skywalker... but you are not a Jedi yet"
Gosh that line. It's so threatening and disarming. Luke tries to stone face through it but he knows it's absolutely true.
One of my fav starwars quotes
I'm not sure, but i don't think the Empire using the AT-ATs instead of just blowing up the base with their ships was a plot hole: The rebels had that huge anti-ship cannon, so the Empire had to approach from the ground.
don't forget the shield generator that was the entire purpose of the ground strike.
Exactly.
Not only that, even the rebel ships couldn't fly with the shield up. If you listen to the dialogue right before the battle starts, you'll hear that they had to temporarily deactivate the shield when the first transport departed.
@@denisvilleneuve2861 don't know how many times I've defended that damned shield generator in the old battlefront games
I think the reason why it is one of the best movies of all time is because they took a director who understood characters.
Oh...and it's got the coolest sci-fi vehicle ever made...the AT-AT's :D
What about the Millennium Falcon?
Well it was introduced int he first film ... but good point. It was well showcased in this one.
AT-ATs were not in the original Star Wars.
I agree about Kershner.
The Empire Strikes Back is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE movie :D
The most legendary review for the most iconic and perfectly made movie ever
"we need to hide Vaders children.. how should we do that? split them and luke can keep Vaders last name." best witness protection ever
Best Line Ever in this review: I'm not George Lucas, we're keeping it!
Benj Deck Best line ever! "I know!"
Rest In Peace, Irvin Kershner

Hands down my favorite Star Wars movie
Shouldn't Vader have figured just by Luke's last name that he was somehow related to him
He did, the movie from the beggining establishes that Vader knows who Luke is and that's why he is going after him, but after Lucas changed the emperor dialogue he created a plot hole because god know why, now we're supposed to think vader only then realizes about luke which makes no sense since he is already frantically searching for him, why would vader go after luke if he didn't know who he is, the change in the special edition fucked it up, it was good before
I hope they just release it altogether, all we have now is a not so good 2006 dvd widescreen laserdisc rip as a bonus disc and a few old vhs and laserdiscs
***** What I hope is they realease the visual improvements but remove stupid shit like "Greedo shot first" and maybe keep the emperor scene visual but old audio. Original version is great but you have got to admit they did improve a lot in many scenes, like the attack on the first death star.
I really don't see it blending together, any version released before 97 was fine, everything else sucked
The best version of the emperor dialogue was the early DVD version: "We have a new enemy--*Young* Skywalker." There, both Vader and the Emperor already knew his name, and Palpatine was just saying "He's more dangerous than we thought."
Actually, the reason the Empire couldn't send any ships was because of that giant fuck-off cannon near the Rebel base.
The giant boob nipple gun
Anthony Serocco "giant fuck-off cannon" video AND comments have me crying 😂
empire 10/10
new hope 9/10
return 8/10
revenge 6/10
phantom 2/10
attack 1/10
Have you trucking lost your mind?! Star Wars 3 is so damn better than 6/10, the choreography, the soundtrack, the final
act, the story overall and palpatine’s way to turn Anakin to the dark side make it at least 7.5/10.
The phantom menace and attack of the clones are objectively viewed at least at around 5/10, if only for the atmosphere and the originality.
Wild take tbh. AOTC and Phantom are definitely higher than that. And Revenge of the Sith is on the same levels as the originals. 8/10 minimum
Revenge of the Sith will always be my favorite movie, notwithstanding the glory of Empire Strikes Back.
MY favorite scene....When Yoda lift's up Luke's ship.
"Size matters not. For my ally is the Force." GREAT quote.
+TheMRStudio goosebumps just reading these lines :)
and a powerful ally it is
This movie is actually the first Star Wars movie i saw.
Sadly, the second one was The Phantom Menace.
Well atleast you say this first, if you saw Phantom first you might never have watched any of the old ones.
I meant the second movie I watched was Phantom Menace, not that that one was the second movie.
Why did you watch them out of order?
I just happened to find a tape of the special edition at a thrift store.
The reason vader was obsessed with luke was because he knew he was strong with the force.... come on jeremy
A lunatic with some really good ideas, but a lunatic nonetheless.
aren't all directors/creators lunatics at heart? No movie is a single person's effort, sometimes the genius can be very stupid. LOL
Empire- 10/10
Star Wars- 9/10
Return of the Jedi- 7-8/10
Revenge of the Sith- 7/10
Attack of the Clones- 5/10
Phantom Menace- 4/10
You're going to become a badass so chill dude".
and?
The script was very well done
Worse my friend prefers Grownups Over Star Wars V
Oh man...
Star Wars (1977)- 9.5/10
Empire Strike Back- 10/10
Return of the Jedi- 8.5/10
Phantom Menace- 5/10
Attack of the Clones- 3.5/10
Revenge of the Sith- 6.5/10
EDIT (1/11/2016): Okay, after recently rewatching all the film, my score for the original trilogy remains the same, but my scores for the prequels have changed thusly:
Phantom Menace- 5.5/10 (bad, but not quite as terrible as everyone makes it out to be)
Attack of the Cones- 2.5/10 (honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen)
Revenge of the Sith- 4.5/10 (really not as "good", or "decent" or "passable" as everyone says it is. Worse than TPM, although still better than AotC)
As for The Force Awakens- 9/10
But the one that everyone is dying to know is.......
The Star Wars Holiday Special- 15/10
I mostly agree with that but jedi needs a higher rating and phantom menace should be lower
4th Dimention Studio
Nah, I'm fine with how I rated those two.
I feel like I was a bit too generous with that one.
pretty damn accurate
+Sofia A Spot on. I might be tempted to give RotS a 7, if only for the Emperor and a handful of scenes. But it sure did still have a lot of stupid shit in it.
Pepitobenito That's really the only reason why I gave it a 6.5 (and even then, I feel like I was too generous).
Can you imagine watching that and having to wait hopefully for a third movie, for 3 years? Phew! Waiting a week for Mandalorian is hard enough for lots of fans of netflix binge style
"He ain't buffing man, I think he really is HIS dad."
"That's how you hook em, boom now you gotta wait 3 YEARS!" LMAO
1:53 because those are shields? You know, which is why they have to destroy them to begin with
I actually like the changed dialogue in the scene between the Emperor and Vader. It adds an extra level of intrigue to the movie. I thought it was obvious that Vader was lying to Palpatine about not knowing about Luke, since Vader wanted to use Luke to overthrow him.
Nathan that actually kind of makes sense... huh, didn’t think of it that way.
@@sirpheredin1379 What exactly do you find questionable?
How did the original trilogy fucked things up they literally are some of the best movies ever made😂
Return of the Jedi had more if an impact on me.
"And the two gay robots" I laughed so hard Jeremy why XD
"Why didn't the Empire just lower the troops down directly and blow up the shield generator?"
Uh, probably because it was GENERATING A SHIELD lol

3, Revenge Of The Sith

Yoda was the teacher for many of the young padawans in the temple, so it makes sense that Obi-Wan would have gotten some training from him initially until Qui-Gon selected him as his personal apprentice.

1. Empire Strikes back
2. A New Hope

4. Revenge of the Sith

I remember when James Earl Jones was interviewed for the "Empire of Dreams" documentary, he mentioned thinking Vader was lying, upon reading that line in his recording session. Its still one of the biggest moments in the saga (so far), but I'm hoping "The Force Awakens" offers another one.

They should save the twists for episode VIII.
it will probably says it in a less dramatic more loving

it seems like that is they way they are going with it
Yoda respectfully stepped in as Obi Won's master when Qui Gon died.

Kinda funny how Jorge Lucas is pretty much IRL Darth Vader, cause he was a pretty cool guy when he made the original trilogy. Then we turned to the dark side and made the prequels and after that he had a brief moment of redemption when he sold star wars to Disney.
He still has ILM...
+Caius ILM?
Without ILM there would no Star Wars films lol. George Lucas is the dude.
K den IV, V, VI. I, II, III. Now we are waiting for VIII, IX, VII has just been done this year. episode I in 3D had the extended version at the cinema, also with the best lightsabre dual of all time. George Lucas still has ILM so all good in my book...
Caius but the cringe of episode 2 man. It was so bad
"he told me you killed him" "no, obi-wan killed your father" and I don't know why, but I actually liked the sound of that, its just if that line was actually used, I don't know certain scenes would have then played out

Thankfully, the recent Marvel comics fixed the problem of Vader "not knowing" who Luke was. He just didn't tell the Emperor ;)
Yeah. Loved how they handled that.
The ending is epic. The first time in movie history where the villains won.
Jeremy, at the end of ESB the fleet is above the galactic plane but that's not another galaxy they're looking at, it's a newly formed solar system.
I never thought of that, good thinking
This is one of my favorite movies ever. I used to watch it when I was seven years old and home alone. I re-watched yesterday, for the first time in years, and holy crap! I had totally forgotten how good it is

I guess it's just something about the whole Jabba situation, Yoda unexpectedly telling Luke his training is complete, the forest moon chase, Luke's maturity, and a few other things that I like a lot better than the others.
Liking Return of the Jedi more than Empire is totally acceptable, though I disagree. The other day a friend told me Phantom Menace was his favourite (he wasn't kidding either). We were at a restaurant and I almost walked out from shame haha - that is waaaay past where I draw the line!

My two favorite Star Wars movies are Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi.
The 3 best sequels ever
1) The Dark Knight
2) God Father 2
3) ok boomer
Empire Strikes Back! The most important installment of the Star War series (Yes, series...and not Trilogy). This is the one that makes it all worth it...the one that ties everything together and makes you want to see more. Without this movie...Star Wars just wouldn't be the same. I salute this review. It is...AWESOMETACULAR!!!
But there are only 3 movies in the Star Wars series...
So true. Empire strikes Back is my #1 favorite film of all time.
I hate the way they changed Boba Fett's voice in the special edition to being by the prequel Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison. Jason Wingreen was so much better because it was a less ordinary normal and more Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin meets Darth Vader.
Your Yoda impression is pitch-perfect! :O

Well also take into consideration that Darth Vader sensed the force in Luke during the trench run and when he realized he blew up the death star and survived he's like "oh damn I need to see what's up with this guy"
“And the two gay robots”
I laughed more than I should have.
There are just so many to choose from
Empire strikes back has the best poster i have ever seen in my life
"I know!"
pimp statement by Solo himself!
I haven't watched these films in years and recently got the Blu Ray collection. I have to say that I enjoyed Star Wars: A New Hope more than I did The Empire Strikes Back. I loved the more subtle moments in the original and it felt like more of an adventure than The Empire Strikes Back. I'd give A New Hope 9/10 and Empire Strikes Back 8/10
I like The Empire Strikes Back a lot because of Yoda; he made the movie so awesome imo.
They are now explaining why Vader was searching for Luke before he knew he was his son in the new marvel comics.
Peter Fisher I must say, they're doing quite a good job of filling in the gaps caused by the retconning of the EU.
Yep, this is one of the best movies ever made, this is the one I rank as #1 Star Wars, but I also rank this as #9 in my personal favorite movies overall, and A New Hope is # 12 in my list of personal favorites.
Star Wars: 9/10
Empire Strikes Back: 10/10
Return of the Jedi: 8.5/10
*Need to make a gap here
Phantom Menace: 4/10
Attack of the Clones: 2/10
Revenge of the Sith: 6/10
AotC should at least have 1, and RotS 6.5
+IronManRox what about redlettermedias review?

The Empire Strikes Back 10/10
Return of the Jedi 8/10
The Phantom menace 5/10
Attack of the clones 2/10
Revenge of the Sith 7.5/10
