This is one of the best episodes you've made. The other is with Sachs.

This couldn't be more TRUE !!! I don't understand why so many teacher keep teaching to blow into the trumpet.
From a physical perspective, the sound is not really due to moving air, but to oscillation between compressed and decompressed air (air molecules don't have to move to the opposite side of the room for the sound to reach it).
Thank you so much Jose for allowing this knowledge to be shared !

Love this Peter! I started out as a singer and at age 8 I was a singing soloist in our church choir and never realized how much that. assisted my concept of singing through the horn at an early age. As my voice changed at age 12, I could no longer sing the high Cs, but then turned my passion to the trumpet after starting on trombone, as I wished to play the notes I used to sing. Just as I couldn't force out the high notes singing, I eventually learned you can't on trumpet either! Which lead to more of a singing approach to the trumpet. Loved your saying that we have to be being willing to hear the "received wisdom" others (particularly teachers or section mates) wish to impart to us. My young false and overblown ego wouldn't allow me to listen, wasting many years in the process. Listening is more important in many ways than just our own sound, but to be willing to receive constructive criticism. Yes, do ask questions, Jose, and most importantly, listen to the answers. This applies to teachers as well as students. Great podcast, subscribed and looking. forward to more! Ever the student, the only way to continue to grow musically. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us, Peter and thanks for being a great host, Jose!!!

An interview with Thornburg would also be awesome. He's not in any of the podcast that I've seen or heard yet
