I have lots of great memories of Barry at Winnacunnet High School when I played piano in the jazz bands and he always was musically advanced and sharing musical wisdom. We were both way into jazz.

What a great interview with Roger Ingram ! I thoroughly enjoyed it !! What an amazing career Roger has had playing lead trumpet and going out on the road with Tom Jones when he was only 18 years old !

Check out "A New Approach to Altissimo Trumpet Playing" by John H. Lynch It's from the 1980's but I think it's still in publication and it helped me reach a double C and beyond. I love it because he's a physicist that worked for NASA and was also a trumpet player looking to play high notes. It's mostly text about the embouchure and some about the equipment, there's also some exercises in the high range. I'm 61 and still playing lead above the doubles. It worked for me.

Now you have me obsessing about being obsessive. Can you tell that I'm a retired trumpet player? We all spend time on RUclips hoping to find out why it is we can't play very well. While all the people who can play very well are trying to tell those of us who can't how to do it. It's like trying to teach a fish to type. I took all my old horns to a shop to have them made into lamps, but they refused me.

This guy is so useless it's unreal, he is a garbage player and a garbage snake oil salesman... Why does he get so much attention? "Fibers can't move so they can't develop?" that sentence means utterly nothing physiologically, but it sure sounds nice, doesn't it?

The Stevens-Costello is utter garbage that has ruined thousands of players over the years. Roy Stevens was a con artist who used to take a broken player, make them play with an upstream embouchure and pinch and squeeze until the faintest hint of a double C came out, then used that to sucker them into paying him a lot of money for lessons for years and years.

Some excellent wisdom here, Gentlemen. I’m experiencing a raspy double buzz (two different tones) starting in the middle of the staff and going higher. And it seems to be hampering my higher register. Anyone have a thought about that? I will be grateful for any direction or suggestions.

just by trying this exercise with the mouthpiece I went higher on the mouthpiece than I ever did and suddenly felt mussles I wasnt being able to feel before. Honestly It sounded to me as a joke at first. I have to try that tomorrow on the trumpet. Thank you!

I used to listen to Brad Goode at the Green Mill in Chicago in the 90's. He was WICKED good. Dude was tearin' up in those days. He's only gotten better since then. Glad to hear his wisdom in this interview.

Greetings brudda. Recently gifted a trumpet by my grandfather. Been on extreme recon for all things trumpet since and have really enjoyed your content with some of these brass titans. Hopefully the series isn’t over I would love to see you bring on Terumasa Hino if possible. I will say learning this thing from scratch at 31 is unique to say the least. It’s been quite a while since I was horrible at something, not to mention my teeth are shifted in the front which I’ve found means I’m learning at a deficit but I won’t let it stop me. I was lucky to get to know Uan Rasey personally. I also got to know trombonists Milt Bernhardt, Hoyt Bohannon, Tommy Pedersen and both Roger Bobo and Tommy Johnson (tubists) Along with several others these were among the top brass players in Los Angeles especially in the 1960's and 1970's. Uan was a friend of my trombone teacher, and Uan would occasionally help Harold Diner (my private teacher) out with various projects around his house, since Uan was phenomenal with his hands in addition to being a top flight trumpeter here in Hollywood' Uan was also a really good trumpet teacher. Uan did all this great stuff while getting around on crutches. He had been affected by polio and thus needed the crutches to get around.

Billy Harper spoke to us while I was at unt. Talked about your “not necessarily having a backup plan” point. He said he was like that by just moving to New York when he did. No plan, just his clothes and his horn. He said it was a big part of his success. It worked for him bc it simply had to. No other option. Obviously very risky. But interesting 🐬
