I learn lyrics by writing them down by hand in a note book and then reading them out loud like poetry. Works for me. I learn thru my pencil point.

Great lesson. And another example of a small world. I worked in Columbia for 30 years and had many many meals at the Bertucci's!

Just want to say I love the lessons etc.
    Two requests from me
    1. Make a 10 song course for beginners that people would sing to. Easy for a starter to build their repertoire.
    2. Build a course (for sale) to take people from nothing to gigging solo or in a band. What do they need to know? Techniques, chords, theory, gear etc.
What is the quickest path? Make it and I'll buy it ❤

Great advice. IMO, you are by far the best instructor online.

I always write down the lyrics by hand. When I sing the song, as I have a very good visual memory, I can actually see the lyrics written, the exact place on the page of every single word, the chords etc. Anyway, I learn only songs I like and the lyrics mean a lot for me. Thank you!

Love your song sheets! I have a binder full of your lessons. I like to be able to go back and play a song that I haven’t played in a while.

Great video David, thank you. So many people get hung up on Apps to lean on; viz. song books , scrolling lyric and score, etc. That said, I do think they have a role to play; but they are only a tool. Too often people get hung up on process instead of focusing on the product.
Only been playing 3yrs, but I have more or less worked out your process already; just through plain old "trial and error". Like you said, the elements are basically nothing new.
Granted I am 'old school' , and your road-map analogy certainly chimed with me !
All I would add to this is that one can only focus on putting in a performance when both the music AND the lyrics are 100% ingrained in the "grey matter"; in whatever way works for the individual. I have watched many a stilted song delivery where the performer falls foul of this; and yes, I've been guilty of it myself.
Anyone watching this video would do well to grab ( buy ?) a notebook and pen ... and write down the key points ... 😎

I love the way you teach. Have learned a lot of songs from you thanks! Was wondering if you in the future could do "That's all right mama" by Elvis Presley.

Is there an app or way that I can put the lyrics on an iPad and scroll down as I’m singing ? I also need to mark up info on them with an I pencil afterwards .

I forget the non-lyrics part too.
