This story is one of my favourite ones. I read it when I was in Junior High School, and enjoy it very much. I haven't visited New England but it's on my bucket list. Clear and nice voice.

The introductory note runs forever and gives away the story.

I have read books older then this by 100 years and they make more sense then one paragraph of this book (my point) Hawthorne's book is unnecessarily difficult to read especially for a book report" i recommended Robinson Crusoe , great book" actually easy to understand" and alot older then this.

Age does not make something better, except good wine.

Hawthorne is a language master. But I'm sure it is cumbersome for young students. His language is rich with description. I peruse his use of words.
