Is this an inside cabin... looks like balcony cabins are $300k.. monthly fees for balcony are $4000/month per person.( $1750/mo/pp for inside).. terms look like they are for the life of the ship.. so value will depreciate..over time .. I would expect... interesting idea though.. they say fees will not change.. not sure how that is even possible given fuel costs and inflation
Inside cabin $99K with $2500 fees per month ($30K annually) sounds like a bad timeshare that will be hard to get rid of. In addition visas, incidentals, off ship expenditures can add a lot more to actual cost. I assume more expensive cabins add to fees per month. I bet a lot of people will regret this choice.
Folk get drunk on the idea and then disregard the downsides ( which can be huge and very expensive )...............Plus that Villa Vie boat is pretty standard, not luxurious at all. In fact it's like a regular cross channel ferry. I have watched a few vids on this boat and the $99K cabins are sooooooo claustrophobic. Still, folks make choices. This vid is like a cringe inducing QVC production where they make out you will just die if you don't buy.
About two years ago we were really thinking about a world cruise. We booked a 29-day trip on Viking to see if we liked a month at sea. After about 26 days we were ready to come home. So, for us, we think trips up to a month is perfect for us. So good luck and enjoy.
Time share at Sea! What could go wrong? Good luck! 30yr old ship. No thanks, not for me. Most of the fun are the destinations but of course nice, new ships, and consistent service. Sounds like a waste of money for a worst time option at sea compared to all options out there.
I am retiring this year. I would love to do something like this but I’m a solo traveler and I believe it would be too expensive and deplete most of my savings. I’m happy for you guys and will continue to watch your journeys.
😳😳😳 I only book balcony cabins. 😳😳😳A balcony is whopping $299,999 💰 and the monthly maintenance fee is $6,999 for Solo travelers! That’s a large investment when I don’t know whether they’re going to be around five years from now?
You guys should check out living phase 2 with Nancy and Mike. They are currently on the serenade of the seas with Royal Caribbean on a world cruise. They have lots of great videos about packing what kind of clothes to bring and vaccinations.
We’ve joked around with this idea for years but it makes total sense. Rather than going into a retirement home just jump onto a cruise ship because of the all inclusive pluses. Food, entertainment, your accommodations and medical doctor on board.
The medical care won’t be the same as on land and there’s no dentist on board, so it would be difficult and probably very expensive to get full medical care on board.
I look forward to meeting you on the ship! I’m a Villa Vie resident starting with the 3rd segment. Will be on board for three years. See you soon! 7:12
Don't forget to obtain good health insurance you can use anywhere in the world. Many countries will require cash up front if you need emergency treatment. Stay well fellas!
Yes you are correct & then you have to get reimbursed from the insurance company. So that can cause very big problems because even in other countries getting sick or injured can be very costly.
I would get World Nomad travel insurance and renew every few months to cover any unexpected medical surprises. If it's a covered reason, it's a great way to get your money back.
We just did our longest cruise on one ship. Back-to-back for 29 days and there were good things and bad things experienced. We are currently looking @ a 56-day cruise and like you, we are still mulling it over. I don't think I could do more than a few months because I would greatly miss my family that lives within 5 miles of us. I will excitedly be following your vlogging of your experience on this cruise. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations! I was a tour guide for cruise passengers & there were a lot of passengers who lived on ships and loved it! Can’t wait to see future videos! I think I would love this!! Enjoy - everything included - meeting new people often - Love Love Love!
I saw an article about this. The ship shown was the Fred Olsen ship "Braemar". So is this ship "Odyssey" a replacement or just another ship bought for living aboard. The tonnage is similar to the Braemar. Is it the " Braemar",? She was greatly loved by Fred Olsen clients but was well known for not being good in very hard storms as she has a flat bottom.
Glad you can live a dream. The wife and I are always ready to go home after 7 days on a cruise. We will be taking our longest cruise ever this June 2024 for 14 days on Royal Princess. Our first time to Alaska and on Princess so that is exciting to us.
Congratulations. Awesome that you are doing this. Go for it. As a young (62) retiree who is debt free with a steady income, (also a frequent cruiser) this is on my radar.
Good for you! I hope you will delve into all the nuances of living on-board! The finances including any extra costs that might take folks by surprise, the food, the entertainment and, of course, the PEOPLE you meet (perhaps have a few a guests on your show?). We will be on cruises a total of 212 days this year (144 on Coral Princess alone). I look forward to continuing to follow you!
Good luck, boys! The website offers very little information to the casual browser. It does say “Departing from Southampton on May 15th, 2024” I’ve found that for a single cruiser buying a balcony, one can expect at least a $2000.00 USD commitment per week for 15 years. This ship is the former Fred Olsen Braemar, and frankly doesn’t offer much for that very rough beginning investment. 2 or 3 months before welcoming the first residents (see above), there doesn’t seem to be any pictures or video tours of the actual amenities. I’ll be watching to see how you fare, and wishing you well!
The escrow account is owned by the owner of Villa Vie and his wife! They also can't take credit cards, so you have to wire (which is not protected). Just be careful people. Also, very curious how people will pay for things on board of they can't get credit card processing by May. Maybe JJ can report back!!!
I used to think that this is something I would want to do. Not anymore!!!!! AFter my last disastrous cruise in April past(2024), I was so glad that the 10 days were coming to and end and I would be off NCL's Getaway quickly. Maybe a month will do however I have changed my mind about living on a cruise ship. Enjoy!!!!
You two are so lucky be able to do this. I am too old to do it now, but throughout the years I have cruised many times and most times alone and just love cruising, but next month I will be 79 years old and truthfully could never afford to do it. I still cruise and am going to Bermuda for my many trips there (somewhere around 34) times. I swore my last time there was the last, but I am hoping to stay well so I can go one more time. You two are the greatest and I would love to have bumped into you on a cruise to anywhere. I have cruised there several times and fell in love the first time on that island with the beauty and the kind people. My last 4 times there, I got an apartment and just stayed that way so I could spend more time.
oh excellent! I follow a lot of youtube cruisers and the Ultimate World Cruise so when I heard about this ship I hoped someone vlogging would get on so we can all experience it! yay!! I'm so glad its you two!
Am I reading this right the monthly fees for two people in a balcony is $8,000 a month? So to purchase the balcony it's $299,000 and $96,000 a year in monthly dues?
Congratulations! What a wonderful new journey! Can’t wait to see all the exciting things you will both bring to this channel! So happy for you both!👏👍🏼
Melody and John Hennesse here. We are Founders Club members and a residence owners on the Villa Vie. You have probally read articles about us. The couple who sold everything to live on a cruise ship. We wanted to say welcome. We will be boarding May 15th.
they start at 99k to purchase an inside cabin BUT and I made that capital because its a very BIG BUT... BUT the monthly fees (like HOA fees) are about $4,000.00 a month. A MONTH! yikes! Does that include a drink package or even food? Laundry? Housekeeping? Is it just maintenance fees? I'm curious to know if the food is comparable to other cruise lines, we're all sitting in the edge of our seats until this summer when the ship is supposed to sail. We'll see!
I didn’t know they had monthly fees on top of the buy in.. that’s crazy. Yes I’m interested to find out all the details too. Subscribing to all the villa residents that actually paid to get the full vibes lol
This will be interesting! can't wait to see the reports. I love cruising but i don't think i could do this. too much time away from my family and my pets.
We are so excited and cannot wait to report back! One thing could make it better… if @EmmaCruises joined along! (We are certain Hudson would love it!) 🐈 🤗
I am totally in love wih those huge smiles! You are absolutely living the life! I've heard of people living on cruise ships, but I'm wondering how they manage their health needs (as most of these retirees are older and need more frequent medical services). Also, the cost of travel insurance increases dramatically as we age. Yes, I'd love to try this out (gets straight into research ...) Can't wait to hear from you on your journey.
So happy for you guys that your dream is coming true. We too would seriously consider what you're doing however the caveat for us would be for the Cruise Line allowing its passengers to bring their pet. Other than Cunard allowing this, (and to us leaving our kitty in a kennel to visit on board is not an option), we know of no other line that allows for this. However for you two and other cruise lovers who wish to, I say GO FOR IT ! Cheers and l-o-v-e your channel ! m.
Is this for 15 years? Do they increase the monthly fees each year? Assess if repairs are needed? What happens if the ship gets too old and they decide to sell it? I guess no casinos. What type of insurance did you purchase?

Yes! When we say new ship, we mean new ship for the brand. They are doing wet and dry dock for renovations to make it their own for we believe 8-10 weeks then launching in May!
So excited for you guys! Though a few years off I am near retirement and love to travel. Will be excited to watch your experience and see if it is something I can do as well. Sounds amazing!!
Its gonna go sideways.... Like "Lord of the Flies" sideways. Buffet's gonna run low... People are gonna start seeing each other as sausage links ala "tom and jerry".....shits gonna get real.
So excited for both of you! I would strongly consider it, if it wasn’t for a few things: (1) we have a pet and we aren’t prepared to live somewhere without her; and (2) we have medical conditions that require semi-regular doctor visits and filling of prescriptions. But if we were happy and healthy gents as yourself without anything to tie us down, then I would jump at the chance! Looking forward to your videos onboard!
Wow!! How exciting!! I've always wanted to live on a cruise ship for a few months at a time, travelling the world! Thanks for all the information you provided and looking forward to hearing about your wonderful experiences as you go along!
I have just entered the competition and would loooovvvvveeee to win. Cruising is an absolute joy. My big dream is to do what you guys have had the opportunity to do. Enjoy every moment guys. You work so hard and deserve this x
I get that they provide "Inclusive" experience but you still essentially need to be very well off... for a coupe in a balcony room it's like 95 grand a year in monthly fees...
Hey Guys I just found your channel new subscriber congrats on your upcoming move I can't wait to see upcoming videos once you move into villa much love to you from me God bless 🙏 you and stay safe Lisa from Orlando 💜
I am so Happy for you Guys, You both have good Souls, All my Love from this Old 65 year old woman From Louisville Kentucky, I Love Watching you both, but I am very Scared to Go on a Cruise, or even Fly,
I wish you guys the best of luck and will be following your experience. I've found the idea of both a world cruise (one shot) or buying in full-time for cabin "ownership" when I retire. A world cruise with any major brand offering one doesn't sketch me out, but these one-off ships do. Too many horrible stories about people selling their home and plopping down large chunks of their savings to "buy" a cabin only to get screwed when things go into bankruptcy and you have to get in line and hope to recoup some part of what was spent. "Ownership" is a generous term. It's usually for a fixed length term, and has little or no chance of appreciating like real estate. Six months? OK, that's like a lease not a mortgage. I'd proctoscope the escrow language with a financial advisor (a genuine fiduciary) before buying in.
I'm retiring family doctor after 28 year and was a US NAVY Medical Officer. During my civilian career after getting out of the Navy, I worked on HAL cruise and Windstar cruise for about 13 cruises. This offer is very intriguing to me. I'd like more information on the ship, activities, planned itinerary, etc.
OMG That’s wonderful how long will you be on the ship? I know you will have a great time and produce great videos for us. Very happy for you enjoy every minute of it. WOW👍🏾👏🏾
We just watched Griff and Alyssa's video where they stated, because they were going to film on Villla Vie's world Cruise departing on May 15 (they were considered media), it was canceled for them. Is this affecting you?
Is this an inside cabin... looks like balcony cabins are $300k.. monthly fees for balcony are $4000/month per person.( $1750/mo/pp for inside).. terms look like they are for the life of the ship.. so value will depreciate..over time .. Booked Ncl Prima May 22 2025 Reykjavik departure

You’re absolutely on to something here!!
Forgot to mention the tourist aspect of visiting various ports around the world.
One more thing I forgot to mention. The price for the cruise is comparable to the monthly expenses of a retirement home.
The medical care won’t be the same as on land and there’s no dentist on board, so it would be difficult and probably very expensive to get full medical care on board.
Understood Larry but for immediate needs such as for cuts and other non emergency issues there would be a doctor available
I look forward to meeting you on the ship! I’m a Villa Vie resident starting with the 3rd segment. Will be on board for three years. See you soon! 7:12

I look forward to meeting you on the ship! I’m a Villa Vie resident starting with the 3rd segment. Will be on board for three years. See you soon!
How fun that would be! Have a great time and looking forward to seeing your uploads for us.
You both sound so excited! Good for both of you, enjoy yourselves
Didn't another company go belly up leaving people holding the bag? Be careful is all I can say
Took a Princess 30 day to Tahiti and back from LA loved it! We could easily live on board a cruise ship and be pampared....
We just did 32 nights RT LA to South Pacific on Princess, too. Loved it!
I just heard of them. Excited to hear more.

What about the medical and dental aspect of getting medicine or dental visit?
WOW WOW WOW You will actually experience the world in detail. Have a wonderful experience. Fingers crossed I will see you on part of the cruise.

Monthly maintenance free are rediculous!
Where do you go when the ship is down for maintenance???
IT has been delayed already this year.

Could you imagine if someone in real life stared at you with these frozen smiles?
Saw that Griff and Alyssa are doing this as well, and they’re going on it May 15.
I can’t wait to see you do this! So interesting. 👀
We are so excited and cannot wait to report back!

This sounds fantastic; looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Congratulations can’t wait to see the Day you move in on the ship 🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏❤️
I am totally in love wih those huge smiles! You are absolutely living the life!
I've heard of people living on cruise ships, but I'm wondering how they manage their health needs (as most of these retirees are older and need more frequent medical services). Also, the cost of travel insurance increases dramatically as we age.
Yes, I'd love to try this out (gets straight into research ...)

I guess no casinos.
What type of insurance did you purchase?
See you on board!! I'm a resident.
Excited to meet you!
Congrats, all dreams come true. Your are deserved. Very happy for you. 👍❤️😀

I would become a Villa Vie resident in a heartbeat if I could! Bon voyage!
Looking forward to watching your adventure!
Yes for sure!
So excited for both of you! I would strongly consider it, if it wasn’t for a few things: (1) we have a pet and we aren’t prepared to live somewhere without her; and (2) we have medical conditions that require semi-regular doctor visits and filling of prescriptions. Just wondering what everyone is doing while waiting to board. It is about 30 days late. Are they staying at hotels at their own expense?
Good for you two! Can’t wait to see the content of where you’re visiting. Maybe I missed it, but where are you embarking?
Outstanding. Looking forward to following you during this adventure
I would love to do this. Unfortunately I love my dog too much to leave her behind. So I will have to continue the 7-10 day cruises!
Congratulations, my husband would love to do something like this as well. 😊
Oh yes! I would live on a cruise ship! How exciting & you only live once so do all things possible! -Michell from Colorado! 👏👏👏👏
Wow!! How exciting!! I've always wanted to live on a cruise ship for a few months at a time, travelling the world! Thanks for all the information you provided and looking forward to hearing about your wonderful experiences as you go along!

I wish you guys the best of luck and will be following your experience. I've found the idea of both a world cruise (one shot) or buying in full-time for cabin "ownership" when I retire. A world cruise with any major brand offering one doesn't sketch me out, but these one-off ships do. "Ownership" is a generous term. It's usually for a fixed length term, and has little or no chance of appreciating like real estate.
Six months? OK, that's like a lease not a mortgage. I'd proctoscope the escrow language with a financial advisor (a genuine fiduciary) before buying in.
WOWZA!!!!! Congrats on a wonderful, life-changing decision! Wishing you both all the best and can’t wait to see all your adventures ahead ❤️🤗👏👏👏
Love you guys I'm so jealous
