They don't just speak fast, they have their own dialect :) This is Silesia. You are not a ziom and ziomka here, you're chop and dzioucha. Dymbowy chop and szworna dzioucha to be precise. If you were younger, they'd call you 'synek'.
Katowice is a city that looks messy where it's supposed to be representative and surprisingly pretty where you least expect it. I lived there for years and I struggle to find this quality elsewhere. It's one of the greenest cities, but the center is atrocious! Well not literally, but they somehow manage to make it worse every year by terrible architectural decisions and strange reluctance to renovate some key buildings and squares. That being said if you know what to look for, you can find hidden gems. It's home to some of the best architects whose work you can see here:
Katowice WRiT, Muzeum Śląskie, Nikiszowiec, Giszowiec Unikato, Osiedla Gwiazdy i Kukurydze, Superjednostka, Spodek, StrefaKultury. A lot of the stuff is not pretty to a naked eye, but a good guide will tell you a story of the early modernist buildings that makes them significant and inspiring to the young generation of architects. Gwiazdy and Kukurydze are examples of resourceful design back when everything was built with the same prefabricates. Gwiazdy and their consecutive evolution are an idea that was brought to life by a guy who had enough of the ovewhelming boredom and sameness.
Of course Upper Silesia is a unique region so you absolutely need to see one of the other towns around like Ruda Śląska, Świętochłowice Lipiny, Bytom Bobrek, Gliwice just to get the unique vibe of big familoki districts :)
In a few years the place around Spodek called Strefa Kultury will be one of the most functional examples of modern development.. Where there are car parks, you will see edgy buildings with open, green rooftops, a couple new skyscrapers. Another attraction will be a project where they convert an archaic coal mining plant into a game dev hub (next to Nikiszowiec).

Yeah, people are trolling You with Sosnowiec:) its just a bedroom city for silesian area with many commieblocks.
in my opinion its better for You to visit Katowice osiedle tysiąclecia (Tauzen) with silesian park and its japanese garden and rosarium - its a unique district built in communist times (ride kolejka „Elka”, You will see it from above:), or go to Gliwice.
Opole- silesian city on the way to Wrocław is a place You shouldnt miss! Its a very beautiful spot and Opole is the only voivodship in Poland where plates with city names are written both in polish and german - for example- „Góra Świętej Anny”- „Sankt Annaberg” :)
If You wanna try silesian Food - definitely not in Sosnowiec - its not silesia :) Sosnowiec is in the region called „Zagłębie”
in Katowice Nikiszowiec You will find silesian restaurant. Or try „żurownia” in the center- its silesian cousine in a little bit different way
„Browar przystań” near silesian stadium in the silesian park has a nice view and silesian cousine

If You want to visit Sosnowiec You can eat at TAPAS on Małachowskiego street. The have good spanish food. You can visit our Orthodox Church on Jana Kilińskiego street. It's lovely. And we have delicious donats on the corner DOBRZE NADZIANE - Modrzejowska 1/3. Than You can go to a caffe BRUNETKI BLONDYNKI at Pogoń, at Mariacka street 2 or You can go to CAFFEE POGOŃ at Władysława Reymonta 12. They have delicious cakes :) You can also visit STAWIKI by Sobieskiego street, to chill out by the water. Sosnowiec is a small town but we have some lovely places to go ;)
    Take care!

Upper Silesian Region is a group 14 cities grown into one. The great Silesian park is a few tram stops in firection of Chorzów. So it is on the border of Katowice and Chorzów neat the footbal stadium.

The fun part of living in Katowice and it's monstrous blocks is that you have an option to live right in the center. Superjednostka was an attempt to recreate Le Corbusier's district-unit. Of course it failed at fulfilling those promises and ended up just a big block of flats for a couple thousand people. IIRC there are two as big or bigger buildings in Poland - Mrówkowiec and Falowiec in Gdańsk.

You should check out outstanding Lower Silesia too! It is beyond the discussion that you have to visit marvelous Wrocław (the capital of the region). I think that you should also check out some smaller towns, especially - Świdnica and Jelenia Góra which are the most picturesque. If you like postindustrial style of a city that once was very rich and prosperous and had a huge meltdown in the 90's due to the closure of the coal mines then you should visit Wałbrzych and Szczawno - Zdrój too. Check out Karkonosze and Sudety mountains. The main tourist attractions will be crowded but it is far more easier to find yourself alone in the pure wilderness there than in the Tatra Mountains :)

Gniezno - capital in the years 966-1038
    Kraków - years 1038-1079, 1138-1295, 1296-1596, 1815-1846
    Płock - years 1079-1138
    Poznań - years 1295-1296
    Warszawa - years 1596-1795, 1807-1832, 1917-1918, 1918-1939, 1948-today
Lublin - for short periods in 1918 and 1944/1945
Chełm - short period in 1944
    Łódź - years 1945-1948
So yeah, 8 in total (Poland asked "how many capitals you want?" answered "Yes") XD

They was awarded in Silesian voivedeship as the best in famous newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza. I Used to live through 25 years and born in sosnowiec but now through last 5 years in Coventry, UK. Another places that I've recommend and its worth of visit is Stawiki Lake near city center, Trójkąt trzech cesarzy where was the border of occupants of Poland its on Niwka district. Also there is a museum of industrial technik in the same district. However whatsoever Sosnowiec is a shithole 😂. Check Nikiszowiec District in Katowice. Its in UNESCO

For a RUclipsr it could be interesting to see the ugliest city in Poland and show it in his video. The problem is that Sosnowiec is not the ugliest one (or at least wasn't when I was there last time) it is only not very interesting. Would you prefer for example living in Tychy or Jastrzębie-Zdrój rather than in Sosnowiec? I think no one except the hardcore Silesians would. Sosnowiec has at least a small historic downtown, it is well communicated with the other cities in Silesian agglomeration. And the other two are sleeping-areas with commie blocks far away from Katowice, Gliwice and also not so well communicated with other parts of Poland. In my opinion also, almost everything in Częstochowa except the Monastery and its neighborhood looks much worse than Sosnowiec. What about Radom? A better place for living than Sosnowiec? What about some small cities in the east Poland - Mińsk Mazowiecki, Siedlce, Ostrołęka? Better than Sosnowiec? Rather not...
