@@billmercer1229 Another legend who appreciated current music was Buster Keaton. I've read a couple of times that he was disappointed that his contemporaries hadn't even listened to the Beatles.
Freddy Weller on rhythm guitar to right of Mark Lindsay, to his left is Charlie Coe, I think; Joe Correro Jr. on drums, and that funny man, Paul Revere on keyboard. Mark Lindsay is a very good man and loves his music and his wife Deborah. Always a good time with Raiders on stage.
Never saw this. Kudos to Jack for joining in and making the skit work. A far cry from the wooden Indian face Ed Sullivan used to introduce and/or talk to bands. As mentioned, Jack could actually PLAY that violin and quite well. Too bad the Raiders didn't need a "fiddle in the band".
Ah, yes; those were the days when the idea of an old rock 'n' roller seemed like such a funny idea. Now the rockers from that era are probably older than Benny was when this was shot!
...he actually has played with some well reknown orchestras as a special guest...He was joking on a talk show that he held out until they paid him what he expected...dont know if true of joking.
I remember all of this, having just turned 70. The song "Him or Me?" seemingly was played here at a much faster tempo (rate) than on the hit single (on 45 rpm disc).
There was a article in TV guide about this showed the week it aired. Somehow I missed it then , so finally thanks to RUclips I finally see it. Thanks for posting it . Nice Vox guitar with Freddy and Charlie has his Klira bass.
When Jack Benny walk out to join the the band. Charlie Coe on the bass guitar does not look too happy with Jack. Paul looks pretty amused. Mark is turning and it's hard tell, but it look like he has a funny look on his face and turns back to the audition and goes okay. It interesting seeing the different expressions of the three band members in the camera shot.
Isn't that Freddy Weller to the left of Mark who is out of the camera shot while Jack is up there playing? I'm talking about one that is in the camera shot to the right of Jack. They have had a revolving door of guitar players. It's hard to keep them all strait.
This sounds like a rare live TV performance from Paul Revere & the Raiders doing "Him Or Me - What's It Going To Be?" On the Jack Benny Show of all things. Nice.
They knew Jack Benny was coming to join them lol I Loved Paul Revere and the Raiders especially Mark "Fang" Phil and Paul ;) great memories growing up in the 60's
I don't know for sure, but probably 1965 or 1966, that's when the Raiders were "popular," if you call it that. They were on lots of TV shows, like "Where the Action Is", but they never had any chart-topping songs. The number they're playing here is an example of their mediocre material.
This song came out in 1967. Also, Phil Volk and Jim Valley had left. The guitarist and bass player in this video are Freddy Weller and Charlie Coe, their replacements. They actually did have a #1 hit, "Indian Reservation", but that wasn't until 1971.
The Raiders never should have allowed their performance to be interrupted and parodied like this. And I say that as a fan. A d why is the first song cut off as soon as it starts? THUMB DOWN.
One of the greatest All American rock bands of the 1960s!!
At 75 and have seen 7 decades of Too Tier Comedians No one to this day has knocked Jack Benny off my #1 slot
Jack Benny was one of the few "older" celebrities of that era who actually respected and liked the younger generation.
That’s right ! Remember when Dean had the Stones on ?........so disrespectful.
@@billmercer1229 Another legend who appreciated current music was Buster Keaton. I've read a couple of times that he was disappointed that his contemporaries hadn't even listened to the Beatles.
Of course, he was only 39 himself.
A clown, through and through.

Always a good time with Raiders on stage.
I think Freddie's still active, and Charlie is retired.
Mark’s wife died at least a couple of years ago.

One of the few truly live 1960's performances of Paul Revere and the Raiders on RUclips.
Ah, yes; those were the days when the idea of an old rock 'n' roller seemed like such a funny idea. Now the rockers from that era are probably older than Benny was when this was shot!
Well, yes; Jack Benny was only 39! : )
And Jack looked better then than many of them look now!
The funniest thing is that Jack Benny was really not a bad violinist and very serious about his music. Love Paul and the gang here!
...he actually has played with some well reknown orchestras as a special guest...He was joking on a talk show that he held out until they paid him what he expected...dont know if true of joking.
He once said that trying to play badly for laughs was the most unfunny thing a comedian could do.
If Jack Benny hadn't become a comedian, he probably would've become one of the world's best concert violinists.
He was that good a violin player.
He was just mad at his dad for making him take violin lessons.
I remember all of this, having just turned 70. The song "Him or Me?" seemingly was played here at a much faster tempo (rate) than on the hit single (on 45 rpm disc).
I love Jack Benny. He's hysterical with The Raiders and Mark Lindsay.
Mark Lindsay still performs and still has a great voice.
And still today in 2023!!
@@USCG.Brennan uh, no, he's retired from performing.
@@ronfowlermusic I heard that he was performing solo on the Happy Together Tours each Summer lately. Not so?

This is why Jack Benny Classic.
It is?

I love the wayJack is jamming on Sweet Georgia Brown.
any time they were on the ratings went through the roof
Ha Ha check out Charlie Coe's reaction to Benny's violin solo at 3:27
Charlie is stunned
This is GREAT!!
I love you Jack!!!
Sid Fields is the "Barker"; Herb Vigran is one of the "Officers".
Holy Sheet...Jack Benny’s hilarious in this skit_.too bad his show was canceled at season’s end....

It's called acting! The Raiders were good at spontaneous acting! Naturally born gifted, entertainers!
Fantastic!!
This is so very funny love it
JB, original and well liked.
How precious-fiddler
That was awesome!
Freddy Weller on guitar...
..
This is the funniest dam thing I ever saw in my life.
This is too cool!!...lol
Love it!
Damn we had such fun back then
Ok, now THAT was funny!
Chicks with cotton candy showing up! Really???
I was a Mark Lindsay impersonator
Hey I wanted to hear their hit single, too much talk
It was their current hit at the time of this broadcast in 1968.
what TV show is this taken from?
Beatle Bob I would guess probably a Jack Benny Special....
Jack Benny Special "Carnival Nights" airdate March 20, 1968
I think that’s Drake Levin on guitar; not Freddy Weller
jack Benny and the raiders ohhhhh soooo funny ha ha ha
No, that's Freddy Weller and on bass is Charlie Coe.
Drake and fang were long gone
what is the air date of this episode
