A consummate professional always makes things look fluid and effortless. We forget how long the journey is to this point. You my friend are one of those and thank you. Great teacher.
Hey Hugh - yes i must say I have been on a long journey on the guitar, but the point is and I wish my teacher would have told me - Enjoy the journey. :-)
Like Bill I remember when Dave Brubeck released this. Sitting in a coffee bar playing it over and over on the juke box. Great job as always, thank you.
Thank you for the time and effort you have put in to making this tutorial. I found it very helpful, it showed up my deficiencies, in a positive way. Off to practice one or two modes. Thank you.
Easiest way to count in 5/4 time is to split it into two parts. First part is 3/4 (or waltz) followed by a second part of 2/4. So you count 1-2-3, 1-2.
Good stuff. Neat alternative version on Sky Guitar where you play the rythym and lead all at once. I mixed up the two versions, added some spicy diminished Bm fills, and made an ending for my own version. Another awesome version is this dude playing with his daughter or something while they scat sing over the top. That version is beyond my pay grade to try and emulate. lolz. Great song. Good lesson.
Great lesson HP. Thanks for all the inspirational jazz lessons during lockdown after lockdown. It's helped me achieve great peace and calm during a difficult time :)
Man I remember that tune when it came out . It caused quite a stir as it was totally different from what was going on at the time. I just loved that kinda syncopated rythm. I think it definitely sounds better with the delay on. I will have to check out your basic jazz 2 video as I really cant follow the changes but I can play all that you played by ear. Is jazz your preferred genre ?
Really you remember when that tune came out ? Thats cool :-) I guess it was kind of a game changer in that time. You really need to work through both basic jazz video's and then the real game in jazz starts. Yes I studied jazz guitar and I practice mostly jazz guitar. It's about time I share my knowledge. :-)
Your demonstration at around 7:40 is near impossible to follow if you don't already know how to play the song. I suggest stop stating fret numbers arbitrarily and tell us which string you're plucking.

I can guess that it was like this - this song is so catchy :-)
My dad went by HPHank. Thanks, HP. Always love your lessons and humor.

Hey buddy boost your input volume I can barely hear it
I understand Everything and nothing at the same time, because jazz is not straight forward... and complicated
Thats how jazz is - somehow it's very simple but somehow not at all.
Dude your mic is turned down too low. Cant hear your comments even with a speaker
Много говорит
You are welcome

Why do you play so fast, lot of us are beginners, why don't you you slow down and call out the frets and fingering, I love your lessons though!
