Tiny Tansy Aspinall Meets The Gorillas
The Aspinall Foundation's flagship project remains the work we do to protect gorillas in the neighbouring countries of Congo and Gabon. The charity has released over 40 confiscated wild born gorillas, reintroduced 9 gorillas, born at the wild animal parks in Kent, back into the wild and celebrated 20 births since the projects were first established.

This footage is adorable. I find it even more amazing that Tansy was being so gentle with the gorillas when she would pet them. It's like she instinctively knew she had to be gentle with them despite being 18 months old.
@Kev What the hell are you talking about? When did making sense stop being the popular thing? "When pet the gorilla it just looks like it because they massive". ? Oh...do you mean "When YOU pet the gorilla, it just looks like it because they ARE massive"? What does their size have to do with anything??? Evolution provided them with their size in order to aid them in survival from predators.....it means nothing else.

Lol, I think the best part in the whole video is when the gorilla actually picks Tansy up, the fond but resigned amusement of babysitters and parents dealing with kids is universal it seems.

This reminds me of that viral video where the child falls into the gorilla pit of a zoo injuring himself and the gorilla comes over and trys to console him. Sweet video.

The ignorance and idiocy of the onlookers( and the child's parent and the zoo's employee) was embarrassing. That child never should have been able to fall into that gorilla pit in the first place, so I put the full blame on the boy's parents for allowing something like that to happen.

With images like this, humans seem to belong to this planet.....almost.....
There's very interesting research going on in the UK about the ways in which great apes communicate compared to humans. They found that there are over 100 'signs' used in great apes to communicate specific messages. More astounding, they found that human toddlers (1-3 years old) used many of the same signs and gestures instinctively to communicate before speech development. It's not surprising that toddlers and great apes can understand each other so well, in a sense they 'speak' each other's language!

Steve always had great respect for the dangers of what he was doing. The thing is, if you put yourself in danger enough times something is eventually going to happen no matter how good you are at avoiding it.
Wow, I would love to have seen that TV show. Pros and cons aside, truly an amazing and unique childhood to be able to bond with these creatures. I was never allowed to own any pet other than a goldfish...no kitten, no dog; and that was sad for a child.

Beautiful, and the child was not in any danger and hopefully will be a conservationist like her dad, proof she is now an adult so she is fine. Gorillas are not violent, and people who don't want to learn about these gentle vegetarian giants should not get on this channel.

This is adorable. The child doesn't look in any danger; I'm sure trained adults were there to monitor this taping. I fully support this video; there's probably a lot we can't see and the child AND gorillas look perfectly content and safe. I hope they get all the support they need.

Simply amazing.
I'm sure I remember seeing John Aspinall on TV; maybe 30 years ago; sitting with his whole family in the gorilla cage. One of the gorillas took a baby, younger than this and carried it to the top of the cage. Then came back down and handed the unharmed baby back. Incredible and does show how intelligent and gentle these creatures are, but frankly as a parent I think it's a bit too much of a risk. Animals can always be unpredictable to some extent and things can go badly wrong.

did you see any threat there? no, the kid was nearly shoving her hand in the gorilla's ear and it did not do anything hostile what so ever, so before you comment next time you ignorant person why don't you look more into the topic of gorilla's and their behaviour.

Actually, the man, Damian Aspinall, was apart from those gorillas for 5 years. The child in the video is his daughter Tansy. Still, a warm reunion and I believe the daughter reunites with them as well.

I was lucky enough to watch Damian Aspinall playing with the gorillas in their enclosure a few years ago. He clearly trusted them completely; so why not trust them with his daughter?
Absolutly amazing, that is pure love for a living creature. The job of this foundation is incredible its so hard to reintroduce animals y takes a lot of year per animal.

Tansy is now 23 years old, I think she survived her childhood. If the animals are trustworthy why not interact with them? Some dogs are are dangerous.
those gorillas are far more gentle than people give them credit for they treated that little kid as if it was one of there own! they only saw a little vulnerable child and treated it like it was one of their own because it did not show fear or any other thing that would make them feel uneasy! they just showed love and kindness more than humans would do ,humans suck and thats the cold hard truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then again, you didnt grow up playing with gorillas.
The Aspinall Foundation does amazing work but this sends shivers down my spine. Gorilla's are very strong and as much as you trust them, we send off so many bad signals to them. It's just very scary.

Do you know that gorillas are not nearly as dangerous as you think? We share 98 percent of our DNA with them. They behave very much like we do. These gorillas in particular are very familiar with Damian and his family, including his children. They understand the need to be gentle. Even with each other, gorillas have the amazing ability to curb their strength. In fact, gorillas only USE that strength in defense of their family.....i.e., if a wondering male is trying to push his way into the group and take one of the females, a silverback will fight. However, they know Damian is no threat to them. They know the baby is certainly no threat to them. They wouldn't intentionally hurt her anymore than they would hurt their own young. It's rare for humans to have this kind of relationship with a gorilla group, but it is possible....You're the type of person who likely thinks every animal is out to kill or hurt or maim. That's bullshit. Educate yourself. It's views like yours that are helping to wipe the planet clean of every species we actually NEED. These are not chimps. These animals live in stable groups and are not jockying for power, they PREFER peace and tranquility. So, tell me....what on EARTH would a small child do to trigger them to be aggressive? You literally have to threaten a silverback's position or one of their family members, for them to lose their shit. A two year old is no threat to a gorilla.....now or ever. Lay off the King Kong movies. They've completely destroyed the reality of gorillas. Watch a video of a silverback with his baby. Go on. Watch one. Maybe you'll gain a clue then. There are plenty of videos on here of that very subject.

I watched a video on Netflix today called "The Last Animals" it broke my heart watching it.And to know there are such vile humans out there that would kill and butcher thousands of endangered rhinos and elephants.And I makes so little hope left to find guys and girls out there like you and your foundation to help these animals that are endangered and who need our help since in all honesty we're the ones that's done it so we're the only ones that can fix it.God bless you and your family you all are amazing people.💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

Actually it is pretty common for primatologist to let their kids interact with their subjects (or friends are many scientists would call them). The apes most likely to hurt someone are usually the victims of animal abuse and will not tolerate humans being too close because of negative conditioning.
Although I believe that these Gorillas are the safest wild creatures Damian can have allowed Tansy to be companions with, the same does not hold true for some of the 'wild cats. A small example of this difference is that a cat such as a lion is very possessive of what he/she deems to be theirs. An example might be that if a handler drops his camera and the lion grabs it and takes it - that camera is now the possession and property of the lion - and he will retain it, no matter what. therefore should the handler decide to push ownership and try and repossess the camera, the lion will show that he/she is having none of that - and without intentionally meaning to, may very well maul the handler unto death. Te next day, same lion will wonder where his friend the handler is.
The gorilla being closer to man genetically would, in normal instances, not take it to that extreme. You can talk the gorilla out of the object if the situation is handled properly. the only way to properly handle the same situation with a lion, is 'the lion owns the camera now.' period.
@@Flashbax7 Gorillas share food. They co-exist beautifully, far more than we do. A silver back might be a bit possessive, but it's no where near as possessive of food as a predator would be.....and that's because their diet is so varied. They don't require meat, so they don't have to constantly be on the look out for prey. It's not as extreme for gorillas as it is for predatory animals in terms of finding food, so gorillas aren't as possessive about it. And of course, like people, every gorilla has its own personality. I'm sure there are some who have no problem sharing and others who'd prefer that you not touch their stuff. Regardless, they don't go ape-shit (pardon the pun) generally.
