  • We had just finish watching an eruption of Grand when a geyser gazer up on Geyser Hill announced over the radio, "Beehive's Indicator, IE." IE stands for "in eruption," meaning that the Beehive's Indicator was already erupting when the gazer noticed it. I called back and asked if he had an estimate on how long Indicator had been going, and he said he thought it had been doing so for about five minutes. Since it takes over ten minutes to get from Grand to Beehive, and the start of Indicator's eruption occurs about fifteen minutes before the Eruption of Beehive, this didn't leave us any time to get to Beehive's vent, so about twenty of us headed to the bridge that crosses the Firehole River between Castle and Sawmill Geysers. The distance looking from the center of the bridge to Beehive is approximately 615m (2,016') and 877m (2,877') from the bridge to Old Faithful (as the crow flies). We knew that Old Faithful was in its eruption window, but did expect that it would participate in the show, but to our excitement, just as Beehive erupted, Old Faithful did the same. I love geyser gazing!!!
