HOW TO DIAGNOSE | 2014-2019 A/C FAILURE on SILVERADO | SIERRA | TAHOE | SUBURBAN

  • We show how to diagnose your A/C not blowing cold air on your 2014-2019 chevrolet Silverado Sierra tahoe or suburban as we go step by step to show how to narrow down why your ac is not working and how to figure out why your ac is not cold in your truck or suv. We first discuss the common failure on these trucks is the ac condenser and the welds on the end are prone to leaking freon or refrigerant from the system causing the ac to completely stop working. This was a recall from GM on these models and years and unfortunately many did not get the recall even though the problem was the same on all trucks and suv during these years. We show where to look and how to use uv dye in the ac system and how to see exactly where the leak is coming from or where you can look on your truck before you spend your hard earned money!

    So this video REALLY helped me out alot!!! I was racking my brain trying to figure out where the leak was coming from.... I charged the system and put in some dye using this stupid injector tool I got from a part store (I didn't realize you could put the dye into the gage set before I watched this video)😅 then charged the system and sure enough BOTH the top and middle weld points were faulty. 😳😱 I'll be replacing the condenser this weekend and I'll also use your idea to reinforce it with some JB weld to better assure this won't happen again. I'm hoping this was the entirety of the issue with my truck. 🤞 Thanks for the content!! God bless! 🙌

    There is dye in the system from the factory. Adding refrigerant brings it back into circulation. A system is always vacuumed before filling if empty. You could vacuum the low side to suck the dye in the high side. That body style always leaks in that same place. Put the can upside down and regulate it with the low side of the manifold. Just open it a small amount and the whole can will go in in a minute. You are evaporating the refrigerant in the can causing it to get cold and lose pressure. Upside down it evaporates outside the can and the temperature and pressure in the can remain much higher

  • @michaelbush2639

    cool basics, but you can hook up shop air to the yellow line on the manifold gauge and charge the system with air to find the leak since you had already determined there was no system pressure. This way you don't waste refrigerant or die.

So now soo cold it freezes and closes vents, same as before. Shutting off ac opens vents, fan blows whole time too. And no heat until after 77, vents close again after while. Then heat at max stays on, ac at max stays on, blower set to max. There is no middle.. any help appreciated.

      There's a pressure switch interlocked with the clutch so the compressor doesn't burn out from running without refrigerant.

      I found the video bro, but the link to the A/C compressor does not bring up the identical compressor you install. Instead it pull up the model with 3 tack welds that is the problem.

      Looks like I'm going to have to. Replaced mine about 2yrs ago. A/C went out 4 days ago, won't hold pressure after recharge, compressor won't cycle on

    I tried to recharge my Tahoe with one of the store bought AC recharge cans, and the fitting WILL NOT connect to the low pressure hose. Do I need a special fitting for my Tahoe?

      Did you get an answer Kevin. My 2018 suburban is the same issue. The low pressure port will not attach to the standard quick connect. But everything I see on the web says if it's the right spot it'll attach.
      What did i find out ?

    • @kcummo
      @kcummo 3 года назад +1

      @@michaelcox86 YES! apparently my Tahoe, and potentially your Suburban takes a different refrigerant called R-1234YF. You can buy a recharge kit at Advanced Auto parts. I took my Tahoe to the dealer thinking the condenser must be leaking. They said I already had the upgraded condenser and that it wasnt leaking. They recharged my AC, and it blew cold the rest of the day. i parked it overnight and when I got in it in the morning the air was warm. I have another appointment on Tuesday of this week, so we'll see what they say.

      @@thentantt there ended up being a leak in the same area he talked about. Dealership replaced the condenser after I contacted GM and told them about the issue. GM covered it.

    I have an aluminum welder. Do you think i can patch the hole with that? Or should i just buy the whole new condenser?

    • @jamescundiff3264
      @jamescundiff3264 3 года назад

      its a $100 part. Just buy a new one from advanced auto parts. They come with a warranty. Pulling the condenser out is a total pain in the ass and you wouldn't want to do all that work just to reinstall the condenser and have it leak again.

    Do not put the same manufactured condenser in as a replacement.If you do in a few years the same problem with the leak top left corner will leak again.The repair shop did the replacement and it leaked again after 2 years.Bad thin weld job in that area.What a friggin scam that is by GM.

    Ah those issues are kind of easy to find. The issues are when the compressor is engaging and sometimes it Cools beautiful. But sometimes it doesn't cool at all. So that's that really issues With this trucks and probably with other cars too.That the compressor is engaging.You have free on it, but sometimes it calls beautiful.Sometimes it does not cool at all.And the compressor are engaged.And those are the good issues

    I replace these condensers on the regular for these Silverados/Tahoes/suburbans. I lick my lips when I see them. Easy money. Pays ~4 hours and takes 30-45 min.
