This is why I love DIY alt fashion because I have the last 2 in spades wardrobe: I make my own clothes they can be cheap and made from anything, ballz: I love the way I look more than I care what other people think, and for lifestyle when I have a restrictive job I just tone it down there and change on the way out the door(what can they say I'm not on the clock?) Also the 80% gets cut up and added to the 20% like a pair of jeans I never wear = patch material, a cute plaid skirt I grew out of is now one of my pant legs, and I even turned a pair of jeans into a vest I wear all the time.
I save all my money to buy designer or custom pieces because at least I know who made them and I can actually support designers that actually have amazing pieces that they make themselves and there’s a sense of pride in wearing something like that.
Also I rather “waste” my money on PIECES I actually like and virtually go with any outfit because it’s quality pieces usually last a long long time meanwhile ur store brand clothing is all recycled garbage

I got this super expensive hand made Maison Margiela Sailor knot sweater, all white, and its so nice that I've never worn it in the 10 years I've had it. I think the real trick is only owning the 20 percent and not even owning anything else. You can literally live on one pair of non-work jeans, three hoodies of which you mainly wear one and interchangeable basic t shirts. That is all you actually need and the rest is purely functional like gym stuff, sweatpants and workwear for whatever it is you do for work. Also, you should wear stuff for like a decade so that you vintage it yourself like never replace your Carharrt jacket even after 7 or 8 years
