I love that your method allows for many different neutrals to be incorporated into the smaller wardrobe! I wear pink and lilac in spring/summer and I wear dusty rose, burgundy, and teal in fall/winter but the majority of my closet is in a variety of neutrals. So many capsule wardrobe methods seem to put a limit on how many total colors are used and your approach definitely feels more right for me.
Dear Daria ur fresh ideas do make sense, I have tried this methodology for my college days when I discovered I had less clothes compared to other girls in the class, then I started mixing and matching the colour that go along and suit my basic style. But somedays I ran out of ideas because few months I could not wash my clothes for one or two weeks during exams made lot of mistakes then later I planned ahead of exams and made few instant dresses ready to be worn for my exams. Reducing stress if prepared ahead of time. Planning and organizing during weekends for my wardrobe. Recycling old small fits and give aways every six months or yearly depending on wardrobe upgrades. I would buy four dresses yearly to upgrade and discard four creating a perfect balance. I would buy budget friendly clothes for minimal spending but good quality items. Thats my story hope u like it.
My new rule is to wait. I don't have specific to-buys yet but if I see something I like, I kind of think about what pieces in my wardrobe it goes with and wait on it. If I still want it after like 2 weeks then I'll get it... but most of the time I've gotten over the urge to buy by then. 🤣
I do that too and sometimes it takes forever for me to decide if I want it or not. Even if it’s something cheap and small like the earrings. I always ask myself if it fits to all my items, or not and if I can see myself wearing it in 10 years as well. 🤓🌿
I like to organize my wardrobe too lately. I used to buy clothes that I liked but that didn`t suit me in the past. Now I`ve learned how to just like or love a piece of clothing for it`s beauty, which means that it is not nessesarily ment to wear for myself but for other lovely ladies out there. I do have, however, have to give another tip here: If you dress only for the purpose of how you are right now and in the here and there, that is where you will stay. I have recently changed my wardrobe to what I want to become. This might feel akward at first, but you will have to pretend that you are already what you want to be, before you manifest it. Remember Carl Lagerfeld, who used to dress in chic clothing even as a child. I think he already dressed for his future self and this is the importance of it. But if you are content with your lifestyle, then go ahead and tailer your wardrobe to your current self. Love, Christina
Oh no, tailoring your wardrobe for your current lifestyle is necessary only for practical reasons to make sure you have enough clothes for what you need to do. For example, you have a wedding to attend, so you prepare your outfit ahead to avoid running in shops with crazy eyes looking for a perfect dress 1 day before the event. So it has nothing to do with your image. I agree that image is very important and in my course I teach how to create the perfect image for yourself to achieve personal and professional goals.
"Reflects lifestyle" is something I almost never think about when shopping but it makes so much sense to think about "where will I wear this" and how often. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge 💕
This is what I needed! I am an ethical blogger from Hungary and I'm sewing my own clothes to avoid fast fashion. I tried to build a capsule wardrobe but I failed, now I see why. :) Thank you for the great tips I will definitly check your website. Loves, Anna
That’s wonderful Anna. There are people in this community that sewing their own Wonder wardrobes as well. I was talking about it in my latest AMA video - check it out.
So glad to come across this video. In the 80's a book came out called "Color Me Beautiful" that created a new career - "colorists." Along with many of my friends, I made an appointment with one and discovered that my best colors are in a group called, "Soft Autumn." At the time I was used to wearing a lot of black and white in business so branching out and finding new colors was initially a challenge but now I'm naturally drawn to "my colors.' I don't like to shop so the vast majority of my clothes are "hand me downs" (actually worn once if at all) from my mother and, fortunately, we have a similar color palette. I'm retired now so wearing the same outfit multiple times in a month (or week) doesn't bother me at all. At present, however, my wardrobe needs revamping as most of the clothes are fairly worn. Also, I want to replace slacks with skirts so - time to start over!!
I love your channel...full of applicable advice and not some fashion shopping victim bingeing on her wardrobe capsule which was bought for one season only...
I’m changing my entire wardrobe. To a capsule wardrobe that suits my everyday style etc.. I started with what I have that of good quality material. The others I threw away. Unfortunately I didn’t have a soul to give them too. What’s fun is like putting a meal to eat together same as the capital wardrobe that’s functional.. Thank you.. I like your videos..🌹
Ever since your fabric series, I've only been buying natural fabrics or Lyocell. For outdoor/workout wear, buying either Patagonia for the long life or Girlfriend because it's all recycled. In the fall and spring, I make a list of everything I have, identify gaps in my wardrobe and keep a list on my phone of those gaps, so I only shop for those items and not things I don't need.
I thought that rules would be restrictive when I first started analyzing my style and wardrobe, but it's actually so freeing! It's freeing to say no to things that don't work for me. It eliminates physical (and mental) clutter and allows me to express myself in a way that's more authentic, beautiful, and comfortable. For me, my rules include: 1. It has to fill a "hole" in my wardrobe (i.e. I have a legitimate need for it--for example, the previous item I had wore out.) 2. I have to be able to wear it with most of the other items in my wardrobe AND I have to believe that I will wear it for years to come (i.e. I love it and it suits me). 3. It has to be sustainable and ethically made. 4. It has to be made of natural materials, unless absolutely necessary (like active wear, for example). 5. It has to be of good quality so that I won't have to replace it soon--helping to reduce my consumption.
Great video! I've never enjoyed shopping so I have always (for the most part) naturally only bought clothes I either need to replace or thought I liked. I made mistakes even so and almost always have at least one item mom bought me that I will never wear, but have done a pretty good job of building a wardrobe I like. In the last few years I have been working on transitioning from t-shirts and jeans to dresses and work appropriate clothes so while I still wear much of my clothing I am in a state of flux, some items hanging around until I replace them with a better option. I like neutral bottoms and more color (mostly greens and blues) in tops. I also like a little visual texture in my dresses since they aren't broken up like tops and bottoms.
I love the dress you are wearing. 2018 is my no BUY year. In december I hope Will have a new understanding of what i need and what works for me. Then i Will slowly start building a new wardrobe with your tips inmind
I’ve been watching your videos for awhile, but this one opened my eyes to the fact that until now, I didn’t really understand what the Wonder Wardrobe was all about. The distinction between fully interchangeable and versatile-got it! The process- genius! Now I get it, and will rewatch with new understanding! Thanks!
Thank you! I am so glad you got it! I know this concept is new and might seem weird, but it has so much logic behind it and it does solves lots of problems
I see all the work you put into this now, for 2 years you created your system. I've been working on a book for 2 years, and I know the feeling! You did your homework and it's so helpful. Thank you for teaching me about how to mix a couple styles in with the colors and so on. That made my clothes make sense and helped give it a direction to follow. I have an urge to take picture of all my wardrobe clothes I am currently building, but I'm so not techy. I can see it from your example though and I'm going to have more fun with it now. Awesome work!
Wow how eye opening this is for me. What helped me the most is what do you do all week or month. It made me realize I need most of my clothes for work and home life. I really do not go out much at all. I have tried to be versatile versus interchangeable which has totally wrecked my wardrobe. I am also noticing in the past 6 months of only wearing clothes I feel comfortable and pretty in...I get the most compliments. My struggle is I am learning about myself is I like dresses more then pants and skirts. I am not sure how to build a wardrobe around dresses.
Hello, Daria! My wardrobe basically has to be useful for my job´s activities, so I have invested in jackets and suits in neutral colours. Then , with the years, I have bought blouses, tops and sweaters which match with my suits. I am a winter person, then my colours are blue, grey, white and tones in pink. I also have dresses to match with my jackets. I try to have good quality clothes, to wear them for many seasons. As I live in the countryside and about 2,300 metres of the level of the sea, my clothes use to be warm. I prefer wearing wool, cotton and velvet. Because of the weather, I wear different sorts of boots and femenine shoes for the special events. Some of my clothes have been with me for more than 10 years; I use a special steam iron to clean my clothes and avoid as much as possible the dry cleaner seravice. I don´t need to change my wardrobe every season, only some blouses, sweaters, or shoes. I try to buy carefully in order not to waste money and materials. I can say that all the clothes that I have are my favourite kind of clothes, they are comfortable and classic but not boring; I have some accesories to give them a new style, specially necklaces, belts and earrings. I love your videos!
I only buy clothes in the same color palette that i discovered i enjoy wearing. I don’t know is the colors suit me but that’s not really something i care for as long as i feel comfortable in those colors. Also for tops i realized that i rather wear basic tshirts in black, grey or white to compliment the rest of my clothes for which i take bigger risks. I very rarely buy printed tees, but in those cases they always have to be on a white background. I like experimenting and taking bigger style risks in jackets, shoes and bottoms. I also realized that i don’t like showing my toes, so all my shoes are closed and 95% of them are booties. My only peep toe shoes are high heels, which i only have two pairs of that are a bit sexier for when i actually end up going out and which compliment my going out clothes which usually are everyday clothes that i adapt for fancier occasions or vice versa. For example: i’ll buy a very delicate night dress that i can wear on a regular day if i tuck it under some wide pants or a skirt. I think that sums it up.
Oh i also wanted to mention that not long ago i discovered the mime et moi shoes (which actually represent one of the two pairs of high heels i own) and they’re super practical! I don’t know if they’re an ethic brand (so sorry if they’re not) but you can buy different heels for your shoes and adapt them to any occasion
What helped me a lot was realising which are my colour palette, since I now which colours don't suits me my life is much more easy. Olso important is to understand which items are basics and which are trendy because if you buy a lot of trendy clothes you end up with nothing to wear again...
Daria I’m listening while doing something else and realised that I need to give this my full attention- you’re a genius working all this out in such a clear way to understand. I’ve always had issues like this depending on my size mainly. I think if one is slimmer, it’s much easier to quickly dress and look good. When one is older and fatter as I am now, it’s still possible, but as you said, with planning- so many many thanks for your smart, practical, doable concepts- cheers Desley
In order to make an outfit fun and more personal i like to add accessories, in particular necklaces in silver tone or a statement ring. As i love an androginous look, these elements help me to create fun and mantain the look fresh
Daria thank you for sharing your behind the scenes work in putting together sustainable, eco friendly, fashionable, interesting wardrobes! A lot of work goes into this, yet because of your knowledgebase you're able to make it look effortless. Phew! Just a few questions for you. How do you incorporate ongoing changing styles into a wardrobe? How do you change a wardrobe as you age, gain or lose weight, and go through menopause? Plz let us know.
I have been using a system for about 4-5 years. It is more about creating outfits from what I already have. I teach four days a week and my system is to pick 4 core outfits that can be worn over 4 weeks and it means I never wear the same outfit twice on any of those four days during that month. The next month I pick a new four and so on. I can change shoes and accessories as I like but the core outfit stays for the month..unless there are sudden changes in weather and temperature. I take time before the end of the month to create my new month plan and take photos of outfits and choose the best four. It is a lot of fun and helps me keep organised and never in that 'I have nothing to wear!' mode. When I am stuck for ideas I go back to my fashion schedule from previous years and refresh my memory!
This was a good overview of your Wonder Wardrobe course. I am just at the beginning of my personal style evolution and journey, but I will bookmark this video so that I can come back to it when I'm ready to build my perfect wardrobe!
Your videos and inputs are always sooo helpful and inspiring. I’ve been working in my personal wardrobe for quite some time now and your content always helps me a lot, Daria! Plus listening to you speaking is sooo relaxing... ☺️
I actually like both your impulse buy, non-matching wardrobe and the versatile wardrobe examples. They were pretty cool; perfect for the maximalist LOL It's impressive you could do a Wonder Wardrobe that's exciting and chic! Love that dress you have!
It’s not about how the wardrobe looks like, it’s about how functional it is and how much money you spend on it. If it’s random, it’s hard to understand what you actually need, so you will be buying clothes non stop and your wardrobe will never be ready.
I have always worn classics- tweed, nice wool fabrics, fine cotton blouses. Problem is that I find it really hard to get what I want so in desperation end up with things that aren't right. I think I should just stick with the few pieces that really work for me. Most of my best pieces came from thrift stores :)
I dont have 60 rules like you but i do have a few. I used to just buy everything that i liked and really ended up w a mess and always kept saying i have nothing to wear. So nkw i buy according to a theme i imagined i want to look like and things are matching a lot more. I always go for, minimalist which means usually mono-colour, vintage look or fit, and it has to have a middle class look so the fabric has to be very good qualoty and the tailoring very good. Its been easier since and im slowly getting there. Still a lot to learn though.
Hi Daria, this video is very concise and helpful, thank you! I'm working toward a fully interchangeable wardrobe slowly, buying only a couple pieces a season to mix into my existing pieces so I can budget & be more sustainable. What really helped me see how your ideas work, was to try to make a capsule by selecting pieces based off the colors of a painting as you show in your videos. Selecting a painting with colors that I love, selecting pieces that are interchangeable based on the color palette, and limiting the pieces to only 5 tops, 5 bottoms, 2 dresses, and 2 shoes, it really forces you to be cohesive. And by doing it as an exercise, I could be more objective about the choices. I chose a Diebenkorn painting. My palette is cooler than most of your examples, and my style trends creative casual, as jeans are acceptable where I work, but I dress up a bit for Sunday & weekend events. I find I want a few extra layering pieces than you show in your capsule examples--scarves, jackets, vests. I'd want to be able to add some layers to my capsule to mix up the outfits with a few more options. Thanks again for sharing your expertise!
Nice, I am glad you’ve started exploring my method by yourself. What painting did you choose? Not all paintings will work for creating an interchangeable wardrobe.
Hi again, Daria! You are such a creative person and also a wonderful teacher. Your method is so practical and useful! I fully recomend the Wonder Wardrobe course. The rules I use the most are following my personal style, colour harmony and not follow “trends” but only what I like :)
I hardly go clothes shopping, so my rules are - can be matched with a lot of things - good quality that will last for years - i can wear the piece without the need of "supporting pieces", for example I do not buy tops with odd shapes that I would need a very specific bra shape for to make it work. However, I have to say that I need to get some new pieces, as my needs in life have changed and I do not have enough pieces for it. I just discovered your channel and bet that your tipps will help a great deal!
You're brilliant! And your new dress is gorgeous!! I don't have any rules yet. I'm still clueless XD ...but I'm learning so much from you and I'm in a shopping diet until I figure myself out. ;)
How many fashion principles did you use in creating your own perfect wardrobe? I’m really curious and I would love to hear your take on it. Let’s discuss!
Dear Daria, I have been trying to implement your approach for more than a year now, I've used a lot of tips from your detailed russian videos. This method is genius, however, it is very difficult for a regular person, I can tell from my experience. I have achieved some success and I am very happy that now I know what to aim for. But I have a feeling I might never reach a goal of full interchangability and very low number of pieces in my wardrobe. What also bothers me is that I spend quite a lot of time on looking at clothes online, browthing through offline second hands and yet my wardrobe is not exactly what I want it to be - minimal number of pieces etc. I have an idea based on my observation of male wardrobes where they have much less options - that it might be good to have some very strong pairings that fit you well and wear them over lifetime - with different clothes overtime. For example, one such pairing for me is circle or half-circle skirt 68 cm length + cropped sweater or similar. Because too many options for female wardrobe creates too much difficulties and takes too much time
Ever since I was in high school I've always wanted a truly interchangeable wardrobe and I'm very nearly there but the only thing holding it back is that I love to wear light blue oxford shirts (I have six that are all slightly different from each other but I love them) and they don't work with mid-wash blue jeans, so when I wear my blue shirts I have to wear white or dark-wash denim, or my tan chinos. I can't seem to part with my mid-wash pair because they look amazing with the rest of my tops.
I love your presentation of a fully interchangeable wardrobe! That'll be ideal, but so far I've only managed to curate a versatile wardrobe - my style changes every 3 years or so, and its difficult to build a fully cohesive wardrobe when there are some items in there that are 10 years old, don't go with my currently desired aesthetic - but are still pieces I like to wear sometimes. E.g. there are remnants of my boho period that honestly, I still look and feel good in but my current main style is simplistic and modern. What do you do with pieces you like that are throwbacks to an earlier style era, Daria? Unless im doing a major overhaul, I usually follow the principle that any item I buy should match at least 5 others in my closet. I wear a good 50% on a regular basis, and make a point of selling off items that no longer fit my needs - doing that has really taught me to be careful about my purchases - it's so troublesome trying to sell clothing on depop! I don't know if with cycles of style evolution it's possible (or sustainable) to create a wardrobe that is always fully interchangeable, but its something I would aim to achieve!
It's going good! I'm still working on my capsule but now I have a plan and vision for what my capsule will be!!! I am so inspired and excited to see the end result. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!
Hello from Minnesota I wanted to know if you cqn do a video of your whole wardrobe . Because I to possibly am a Autumn as well which I wanted to ask if possible I could get confirmation from you. Seeing your wardrobe as a Autumn gives me ideas I have few items including jackets that may not fall in the Autumn category. That you
Daria, you nailed it! I have learned a lot already thru your videos and looking forward to your upcoming videos! Did you say 60 fashion rules😳? I guess I have a lot to learn!
love your explanations and especially the videos where you talk about fabrics or putting wardrobes together using a paiting as inspiration. I would love to see how you would purge a existing warderobe and what items you think are less interchangeable and why. Cause' I need to sort out, but I love playing with many colors, silhouettes etc. love your authentic, positive appearance
Thanks! I don’t think that there are items that are not or less interchangeable. It all depends what kind of style you’re going for, if colors go well together, if proportions are correct, if fabrics match.
Everyone will have their own less interchangeable items. You only can find out what clothes go well in your wardrobe by doing a wardrobe revision. I have a free class that will guide you through the process - sign up here - wonder-wardrobe.com/free-class
Oh well, it depends on your skills. I do mine in pro photo editing software similar to Photoshop. In my course I have lessons that explain how to do it in Word, Power Point, Keynote or more advanced photo editing software. There are apps that you can also use that will arrange you outfits automatically (Cladwell or Stylebook).
Hi Daria, I would add another suggestion that you haven't mentioned in your videos: have more custom-made/bespoke clothes. [1] Most bespoke clothes are made from good natural material such as wool or silk. So they are more sustainable and long-lasting. [2] Bespoke takes a long time and close engagement with tailors, so I tend to think long and hard what do I want. [3] I also support talented local tailors and local business instead companies that outsource production to factories. That is important if you want your city or town to be prosperous. [4] If you make two/three-piece suits, it is very easy to style and interchange with other items. Just a suggestion!
Thank you for sharing this, I would like to learn more from you as I have begun to declutter my over full, non matching, non self reflecting wardrobe and I would like to have less clothes, yet more to choose from and know it reflects me, feels comfortable and I feel good wearing, I turned 50 in July and also not sure what is age appropriate.... In answer to your question, i have impulse shopped, bought because who was with me said oh that’s nice though usually afterwards I realised i neither liked it nor felt good in it, I have I am ashamed to say wasted so much money on clothes I never wore or wore once and didn’t like, Thank you for sharing your learning, and I hope to learn how to follow your suggestions, it took you two years to develop this, I hope i learn it a little quicker than this!! Have a beautiful day
Thank you for sharing! You could start with wardrobe revision, I have a free lesson on how to do it properly - wonder-wardrobe.com/free-class The rest you can learn by taking the course, it’s not that hard if you know where to start and exactly what to do :) My students say that it takes time to build a Wonder wardrobe, but it’s so much fun. You will learn a lot about yourself and discover what you like and eventually buy only clothes that you’ll wear with love.
Daria Andronescu thank you so much, I will look at the link as you suggest and start there, and I will check out your Wonder wardrobe course and the price, I like the idea of having clothes I like, feel good in, know match each other instead of the bits and bits and bits I have ...... and noting matches nor brings much joy when I wear so I stick with two or three things and so much waste int he wardrobe and money!! Thank you so much.
Daria, if I had not met you earlier and made the course, I would do it later than this video! Compliments! And you look great in the dress, I love it and it would fit perfectly with my new capsule;) But I have learned that I should not make any more spontaneous purchases and it is really easy for me through the course. My rules: - Can not be talked into by any saleswoman in my style - I know best what suits me - Dare to dare something and not run around in boring clothes So it's fun and I'm looking forward to long-lasting, good quality, whose style suits me perfectly.
Hey Sonja! Thanks! I am so glad you’re enjoying the course and already made your own Wonder wardrobe! Yay! I love your rules and follow them as well, thanks for sharing 💛🤗
I discovered your channel recently (love what you do, it is necessary to have people who give a reasonable look at how we shop clothes), I have been most interested for months in the idea of reducing the amount of clothes I own, have less but better etc... but the clothes I love, the ones that correspond to my style and the image I want to have are all ver colourful and/or in printed fabric, with patterns... very hard to match with other things ! Do you have any advice to give in cases like these ?
I try to buy clothes within the same colour palette and think if I can combine a piece with what I already have in my closet before I purchase it. I also have a lot of pieces in black. I find black and denim bottoms easy to combine with most colours I like.
Hi Daria! After watching almost all of your videos and reading a lot of the comments, I know I'm repeating what many have already said, but I absolutely love what you are doing. I very much admire how you are able to approach an industry that does have so many problems in a way that does not compromise the ability to enjoy aspects of it that do work and allow for creative expression. That said, I did have a specific question for you related to items you include in your wardrobe. What do you do with pieces that are needed for fancy events (like black tie)? Are those special items incorporated in your wardrobe or do they have a place outside the capsule? I would love for everything I own to eventually be interchangeable and usable, but it seems there will always be one or two pieces I need that are just for those special occasions that don't work with anything else and aren't appropriate in other settings. It would be great to hear if you have any input on this. Thank you again for everything you are doing and for being such a positive influence and guide!!
Hi Samantha! I usually plan ahead what kind of outfits I need for next season. If I have a black tie event I'd include the dress in my capsule, so it's there and ready for the event. If I need a dress but don't have the right one, I would rent one. If I don't need any "evening" attire next season, I would store all fancy clothing/shoes I have away from my current wardrobe.
I just found you and I love your video and blog content! I’m dying to jump start my wonder wardrobe journey but it will take a while to save money for the full class series. Do you ever have sales or promotions for you class series?
Great video, very profound and original! I have a slight apprehension: how can you build a fully interchangeable wardrobe from scratch if you already have a full wardrobe?
This is exactly what I teach in the Wonder Wardrobe course. The method was developed specifically for transforming what you have into a fully interchangeable and better colour-style coordinated wardrobe. 👌
I have always tied to have some basic colors right now it is dark blue and grey. And a little bit of black. And hot pink white and olive green. The clothes should be machine washing and I like natural materials best but have some polyester /acrylics to. I recently started to buy second hand and I love it. I have found so much good stuff. A wonderful coat from the 60s in dusty light blue. But I have a question how get to the point where I can be satisfied with what I have. I tend to buy stuff to de-stress and I really would like to be content with my smaller wardrobe.
my rule lately has been to invest in core items first, I was getting so distracted by extras like purses and shoes that I really didn't have much to wear
My rules: - No synthetics, preferably 90-100% natural fabric. - no itchy stuff, like metallic thread or glitter stuff or itchy wool. - must be loose around the waist! Preferably elastic waist. - no see through. - garments should be able to be worn as is, without the need for specific under garments. - should be machine washable. - "do I actually need this garment?/will I actually use this garment?"
Love your videos which are very informative and inspiring. But I find it a bit challenging to implement some of your tips in my circumstances. I work in a corporate environment - my favourite combination is sheath dress and blazer, with the occasional separates (blouse with skirts or business pants). Because I'm short, I find dresses to be more flattering on me than separates - so I don't have much interchangeability other than my blazers which are navy and charcoal. I live in a tropical climate, my homewear is singlet-T and shorts which I won't wear out of the house. My choice of casual clothes are more comfortable and a little edgy and more colourful (earth-tone and pastel). I seem to need 3 distinct sets of clothes, which I don't really see how I can make them interchangeable. What do you think?
Yes, it’s a very common situation. If you have very different styles for work and free time outfits, you better divide them in 2 mini wardrobes. But make sure each of them is interchangeable. I explain the best and most practical ways to do it in my course.
My rules which I don't follow super strictly (I'm still on a journey towards a capsule wardrobe) are: only buy items that I really really love, and to make sure, I usually only buy after at least 2 weeks of consideration (exceptions are holiday buys, but these double as a souvenir item as well). And only if I can think of at least 3 outfits with items that I already own on top of my head. For bigger investments like new shoes or coats, I wait sometimes several seasons before I find the perfect fit! (Still need to find the perfect not boring, but easy to pair, full leather (because smelly feet), fitting, comfortable, not bank breaking pair of ballerinas after my sacred repettos have "passed away" 😅)
I think that the 30% free time wardrobe needs to be increased if a person has lots of different free time activities, or if those activities require frequent laundering (such as gym workouts, cycling, or other sweaty pursuits). Living in Colorado, I hike, cycle, climb, snowshoe, and Nordic ski: each activity’s outfit needs to be adjusted for the day’s weather and needs to be fresh for the following day. Although there’s some overlap, that’s still a lot of gear!
In that case that doesn't mean that you need 30% free time clothes - you need a higher percentage! Think of it not in terms of the time spent doing those activities, but rather how many times you need to change/ the frequency of the different types of activities. E.g. if you're doing the same thing everyday at work, you could get away with 3-5 outfits (maybe 10-15+ for variety). But you'd need to at least triple (or quadruple) that if you're doing other activities where you need to change each time.
I always buy a pieces, if I can wear it with at least 5 other iyems in my closet. The most important thing for me is fit. I can't afford designer clothes, but when i buy I only do it if it has quality. I make sure it will not lose its shape, color and the material is not so delicate.
Yes. Every season I check how many outfits I need in my next seasonal wardrobe. If I have enough outfits already I don’t buy anything, if I see that I need more or new outfits I’d make a list. But it’s never precise like “Blue midi skirt”, I would just write down how many tops and bottoms I need to find.
I have several rules that I'm trying to document... Because I've realised certain subconscious criteria's have to be met before I am at peace with a purchase. When something is out of whack I feel uneasy. Bringing those criteria's go the conscious is what I'm working on. However one is to consider things for a long time before I buy them..I add them to a Pinterest board...unless it was on my Needs List anyway and I suddenly find something that matches it perfectly.... Sometimes I go back to the board and I'm like.... This doesn't actually look that nice... Delete!
Nipzche I do that too but I use pinterest. It saves me from impulse buying and I can also create lookbooks so I can visualise how I might wear it.
Traveling out of a backpack for so long has naturally led me to follow these tips. Thanks for the informative video!
So glad to come across this video. In the 80's a book came out called "Color Me Beautiful" that created a new career - "colorists." Along with many of my friends, I made an appointment with one and discovered that my best colors are in a group called, "Soft Autumn." At the time I was used to wearing a lot of black and white in business so branching out and finding new colors was initially a challenge but now I'm naturally drawn to "my colors.'
I don't like to shop so the vast majority of my clothes are "hand me downs" (actually worn once if at all) from my mother and, fortunately, we have a similar color palette.
Just stick them in a trash bag and donate to a Goodwill
Ever since your fabric series, I've only been buying natural fabrics or Lyocell. For outdoor/workout wear, buying either Patagonia for the long life or Girlfriend because it's all recycled.
In the fall and spring, I make a list of everything I have, identify gaps in my wardrobe and keep a list on my phone of those gaps, so I only shop for those items and not things I don't need.
That’s great! I love making lists as well! It keeps you focused! I am planning to continue the fabric series, there’s so much to learn 🌿
For me, my rules include:
1. It has to fill a "hole" in my wardrobe (i.e. I have a legitimate need for it--for example, the previous item I had wore out.)
Wow so far this is the first in-depth video about creating capsule wardrobes. Why i haven't seen this before.
Oh wow 1 year! I am seeing more people doing it. Good luck and hope my videos will help you figure this all out faster and easier.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You, Daria, are a genius.
Sounds like you know what you like to wear and that’s great! I love colour and can’t imagine having only one colour palette in my wardrobe. ☺️👩🏻🎨
I love your content. Very concrete and doable for not-so-fashionable people like me.
That’s a great question, I will make a video about it soon! ❤️
I love you, your attitude and your content, thanks!!
You are a genius! What an inspiration you are! 👍
This was a good overview of your Wonder Wardrobe course. I am just at the beginning of my personal style evolution and journey, but I will bookmark this video so that I can come back to it when I'm ready to build my perfect wardrobe!
I love the piece you are wearing in this video. Where did you get it please? I would love to have it.
Thanks a lot for this vid.I'm trying to find my style and you really helped me
Thanks Daria for the great video! Very refreshing and different than most of fashion videos that only promote irresponsible consumerism
Thanks! I am happy you liked it. More goodies are coming your way 🤗💛
You make it sound so easy but it takes a lot of skills to not only design the looks but knowing what clothes work best for your body type.
Beautiful dress! Would you tell us which brand is it? Love the style ;) Thanks!
You have a gift! Love this video and how you mix color.
Oh and I also have video about layering, you can find some ideas for your capsule there: ruclips.net/video/AdKLDjFkqFU/видео.html
Yes, I selected a Diebenkorn painting from his Ocean Park series #86, www.melaniebiehle.com/2016/04/inspiration-richard-diebenkorn/
Draga Daria, e o mare placere sa te urmaresc. Postarile tale sunt extrem de informative. Iti doresc mult succes. Blessings. :) x
Multumesc ❤️
Hi again, Daria! You are such a creative person and also a wonderful teacher. Your method is so practical and useful! I fully recomend the Wonder Wardrobe course. The rules I use the most are following my personal style, colour harmony and not follow “trends” but only what I like :)
I hardly go clothes shopping, so my rules are
- can be matched with a lot of things
- good quality that will last for years
- i can wear the piece without the need of "supporting pieces", for example I do not buy tops with odd shapes that I would need a very specific bra shape for to make it work.
However, I have to say that I need to get some new pieces, as my needs in life have changed and I do not have enough pieces for it. I just discovered your channel and bet that your tipps will help a great deal!
You're brilliant! And your new dress is gorgeous!!
I don't have any rules yet. I'm still clueless XD ...but I'm learning so much from you and I'm in a shopping diet until I figure myself out. ;)
Thank you! I am glad I can help :) I think it’s a smart move to slow down and think about what you really like.
Daria, you put a lot of work in your videos. Very isnpiring. Thanks.
Aww thanks! More goodies are coming soon ;)
Great video! And your dress is amazing!
Thank you! 💛😊
Your red top is one of the most unique and beautiful I've ever seen. Would you mind sharing the brand? Thank you in advance. ; )
I am wondering as well
Me too!
@@yaelaver7321 We're still waiting...I guess. xD
But it's soooo gorgeous!
It's a dress, from heinui I think.
It is a dress not a top
Your content is GOLD!!!!! You are a true expert in your field. Thank you as always (:
You’re welcome 😊How is you Wonder wardrobe coming around?
It's going good! I'm still working on my capsule but now I have a plan and vision for what my capsule will be!!! I am so inspired and excited to see the end result. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!
Great video Daria, very helpful. I was wondering where your dress is from? It is beautiful x
Following- because this is exactly what I want to know
Hello from Minnesota I wanted to know if you cqn do a video of your whole wardrobe .
Thank you! I am so glad you’re learning new things on my channel! More goodies are coming out soon 💛🤗
love your explanations and especially the videos where you talk about fabrics or putting wardrobes together using a paiting as inspiration.
Really helpful, Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Great video, and that shirt (or is it a dress?), wow! 😍
Glad I can help! :) Travel wardrobe video will be out in a couple of weeks btw
This is amazing. ❤
Love you Daria...Thanks xx
You’re welcome! 💛🤗
Brilliant! I'm new to your channel and love your videos. I'll definitely be checking out your Wonder Wardrobe site.
Great tips. What software do you recommend using to create outfits?
Your video is so wonderful! I'm so impressed with the thoroughness of your research as well as the quality of your editing. You have a new subscriber!
Thank you so much! Welcome to the Wonder wardrobe community and have fun exploring the channel 💛🤗
So great!!
You could start with wardrobe revision, I have a free lesson on how to do it properly - wonder-wardrobe.com/free-class
The rest you can learn by taking the course, it’s not that hard if you know where to start and exactly what to do :) My students say that it takes time to build a Wonder wardrobe, but it’s so much fun.
Thank you
Daria, if I had not met you earlier and made the course, I would do it later than this video! Compliments!
And you look great in the dress, I love it and it would fit perfectly with my new capsule;)
But I have learned that I should not make any more spontaneous purchases and it is really easy for me through the course.
My rules:
- Can not be talked into by any saleswoman in my style
- I know best what suits me
- Dare to dare something and not run around in boring clothes
So it's fun and I'm looking forward to long-lasting, good quality, whose style suits me perfectly.
Hey Sonja! Thanks! I am so glad you’re enjoying the course and already made your own Wonder wardrobe! Yay! I love your rules and follow them as well, thanks for sharing 💛🤗
Dear Daria, where is this red midnight lovers shirt from?
You are the best!!
I tend to buy stuff to de-stress and I really would like to be content with my smaller wardrobe.
my rule lately has been to invest in core items first, I was getting so distracted by extras like purses and shoes
that I really didn't have much to wear
My rules:
- No synthetics, preferably 90-100% natural fabric.
I am so pooooooor I cannot afford to have my own stylist 😀 thank you for doing these videos 😘
Mine are: natural fabric, romantic shape, cold tone colors, perfect fit and handmade or ethical.
Daria, You're so thoughtful and creative! I always love your videos! xo, SS
Sorry fo my vocabulary, fucking awesome!!!! Suscribed
You inspire me!!! :D ☀☀☀
Marie Bach, I'm afraid you won't see this, but Repetto is having a 40% off sale right now. I think there is no substitute for the sacred Repettos.
Great content
I always buy a pieces, if I can wear it with at least 5 other iyems in my closet. The most important thing for me is fit. I can't afford designer clothes, but when i buy I only do it if it has quality. I make sure it will not lose its shape, color and the material is not so delicate.
I think You are amazing
Aww thank you so much! I appreciate your support!
Daria, you only buy with a list?
Yes. Every season I check how many outfits I need in my next seasonal wardrobe. If I have enough outfits already I don’t buy anything, if I see that I need more or new outfits I’d make a list. But it’s never precise like “Blue midi skirt”, I would just write down how many tops and bottoms I need to find.
had to click that sassy title!
Delete!
Good video! I like the advice of « Solange te parle » to watch it!
Thank you! I am glad she shared it! :) have fun exploring my channel!
Omg “ huge pile of clothes to be thrown away” I hope they donate them or take them to a clothing recycling center. Or sell them or something!
watching this makes my head hurt.....too complicated for me.....
