    Thank you for this commentary. My 2010 PT, which was bought in 2007 is a purchase in remembrance of my first 2001 Cruiser. I loved that car. It was a stick shift which allowed me to tow it behind my motorhome. This 2010 is nice but besides having a pretty outside appearance has cost me a lot of money at a local garage. You probably listed half of the repairs that I had made plus others that I could list for you. Yes, it's a love - hate relationship. I've turned it into a hobby. Being retired and having access to another vehicle it can be left in my garage until the mood arises, money appears or just to teach my 14-year-old grandson "Lefty loosie Righty tightie". I am actually enjoying making the repairs myself. I'm fed up with repair shops that charge Blue Book prices for mechanic's that shouldn't get any closer to a car than at the gas pumps. 😂

      I am 65 and I have never learned to fix cars. I loved my car when I bought, but it was short lived.

      I hear ya. I'm a DIYer by necessity, because there's just not enough competent mechanics and/or honest mechanics. In this new world, we all need to learn how to fix our own shite.

    Lots of these are showing up at around 100K miles. I traded my '06 for another car at 94,000 miles. Timing is everything.

    Thanks. My 2008 pt loser honks randomly, too. I am beginning to hate the car I once thought was so cute that I named her Bluebelle. Three AC, fan, head gasket, alternator, 4 new tires, 3 batteries, the shifter and wiper blades have all been replaced and now the back gate won’t open and if you are in the back seat drivers side , it won’t open and I have checked the child safety locks. I have had other cars with weird issues, but never one with so many.
    Christine was a Ford Taurus and the windshield wipers would go on but they wouldn’t go off. I was at a funeral and crying already and I got someone to help me figure out how to turn them off. You had to wait until the windshield wipers were in the lowest position while in the turned off position and then turn the car off. Then you could safely turn it back on without the windshield wipers going. It had a similar problem with turn signals.
    My Hyundai Elantra was named Lucy when she was good and Lucifer when she was bad. She could get you there but no guarantee she would get you back. She had brake issues. She liked to let everyone know when she had to stop.
    I appreciate the pt cruiser info.
    I have owned so many factory rejects starting with my first car, the 1970 FIAT (Fix It Again Tony) that I got when I turned 18. One tiny little bump and it broke the front cross member. 3 months later it showed up on a container ship from Italy.
    I have also owned a Gremlin, a Pinto, a Festiva, an Escort, a Toyota Starlet, a 70 Ford Econoline and some big cars like the Buick Regal and Oldsmobile Delta 88 and a Plymouth Fury 3. Of this list the Gremlin lasted the longest.
    History of my car ownership and sometimes I wasn’t actually the owner, but I was… using tags for something I owned that didn’t work.

      I love Gremlins by AMC, now both defunct. My favorite was a Gremlin with a V-8 in it and a pair of headers pointed up like fast boats, only these came out the front fenders because there was so little room in the engine bay! I was 14 and have always wanted to build one, but you never see them anymore.

      @@GoneFishingAway There are a lot of us that love our PT’s. They are inexpensive for parts and reliable transportation. This is especially true if you have the manual versions which have fewer overheat issues because of the larger radiator not sharing cooling with the trans. Both mine and My mom’s PT’s have gone over 260k. I sold mine as I wasn’t driving it much anymore with nearly 300k miles with almost only maintenance and no rebuilds on original motor and trans.

    2007 model has 12 MPG on a good day... It costa $700 to replace the plugs and wires... Some wiring harness shorts draining battery... Can only get a two year battery,,, charging requires daily driving to keep battery up... Very difficult to change battery...
    On a rainy road, all models have the tail end wanting to loose traction and spin out ,its like a hog on ice!!!

    I have an experience any of those problems on my 2001 PT cruiser it has 110,000 miles on it I got it when it had 107,000 miles on it But this is good to know in case stuff goes out I just replace the radiator that’s been in there for 20 years other minor stuff I had done But I’m definitely thinking about getting new rims I did have some kind of air pressure leak I put fix a flat in it and it fixed it for now

      Don't worry, you have only had it for 3,000 miles, previous owner probably fixed most problems before putting out to pasture, I mean Sale, give it time and you'll have plenty of issues to fix!

    Question: I have a 2001 pt cruiser, 2.4 liter engine, with 200,000 plus miles on it. They charging me to replace the radiator,hoses,refill with coolant $ 1,400. Is this a fair price or I am being ripped off? Thank you for all the answers.

      So, just curious, did you end up getting it all replaced at the shop?
      Did you order the parts and do it yourself?
      I have to work on my cooling system soon.
      I am hoping i can get away with: flush, hoses, proper clamps, and fresh coolant. I will most likely install a new thermostat and new rad cap while I am doing all that.

    • @dirkfrazier9779
      @dirkfrazier9779 6 месяцев назад +1

      I don't know the milage, but if you're on the factory installed antifreeze, I would plan on replacing it all. By the way, oil and other liquids need to be replaced to.

    • @trevorshiffermiller2412
      @trevorshiffermiller2412 6 месяцев назад

      @@bobjoebobguy I know I am now a month later but I would also plan on replacing the thermostat housing as it is only plastic and will likely break/crack when you replace the thermostat and radiator cap that is on the top of it.

    Nice looking car, but had just to many flaws and problems from the gecko. Engine issues, brake issues, steering issues, oil issues and worst of all cheap steel that the rust will eat up faster then you can eat up an baloney.
    These cars may have gotten good scores on safety for the passenger with the air-bags but overall got low scores on frontal hits.

      Rust? Bullshit! My wife and I are on our 3rd PT. We bought it new in 2009, still runs great. I can't get my wife to sell it or trade it in. No rust, still has the original exhaust system. New tires and new battery is all that's been done to this car. There are lemons in all vehicles, some just happen to obtain one of those. Sorry.😁

    Basically, a neat looking well designed car was made by Chrysler, prone to buying the cheapest parts they can find, and then leaving their customers to go f.....themselves.
