I paid 1900 for mine with a 100000 on it 3 years ago and it's still going strong. Its needed a few minor repairs but nothing major, it drives nice and has plenty of space. It's like a cross between an SUV and sedan. I love it.

The PT Cruiser gets hate from yanks for no good reason. As a car, sure, it sucks, as do countless other American cars from 20 years ago. Have you ever driven a Le Sabre or a Taurus? They're (a sweary word that rhymes with "smite.")
This is pretty much rock bottom for these cars. 40 years ago, Gremlins and Pacers were sold for pocket change. Now they cost an arm and a leg. As nostalgia for the 2000s grows, these cars will be treasured as icons of the era.

my 2005 Pt Touring is still going strong at 195,000 miles and I've been able keep a very respectable 28 MPG with simple changes like E3 Spark plugs and upgraded Plug wires and a high floe air filter with Royal Purple 5w-30 engine oil..... anyone who puts hate towards these, really don't understand that mainly routine maintenance will keep any car going for much longer than the automobile industry designed it to. If People take Care for their vehicles correctly, They will go fort a very long time!

Great video Joe! It's nice to see somebody defending the PT Cruiser's more positive points for a change! I never thought they were terrible cars....maybe not AMAZING, but not bad! If you wanted more performance, over here in North America, there was the Chrysler PT Cruiser GT, with pretty much the same turbo drivetrain the first-gen Dodge Neon SRT-4 got! There was also a convertible version!
As for concepts, the Plymouth Pronto was the first, but you missed the Chrysler Prontp Cruiser concept! It was the in-between between the Plymouth Pronto concept and production and was glorious, especially the amazing shade of gold!

I was in Texas in 2007 and went to hire a car, when told that all they had was a PT Cruiser I was not too happy but thought ok I will take it, after driving it that afternoon I was staying at a hotel and in the morning I was due at a meeting, I went out to find a flat tyre and was late to the meeting after which I went back to the car hire company and on being told that they could let me have a Nissan Pulsar or take the car down the road to have a new tyre fitted, I really wanted to keep the PT Cruiser, not the best performing car or the best handling but I found it pleasant and easy to drive, after a few weeks I was reluctant to return it.

Our 2001 PT in my ownership is one of the best cars Chrysler made. Ours has heated leather seats, a cool moon roof, many interior attributes advanced for the day, and, I think it is almost timeless in design. Never had a mechanical "thing" and is rolling strong at 145k miles on a 2.4L with a manual Tranny and original clutch. We have a tow bar that carries our bikes and the roof rack hauls two kayaks for us everywhere. Of course, fuel consumption is pretty awful compared to todays motors but the build quality of this year (2001~3) models is very good, better it seems than the later builds cheap looking interior and console. Resale value is horrible on these - why? They were almost cult cars in the beginning.

PT is only hated as it aged like a 90's music star when looked at by the youth of today. In its day almost all car mags liked it. The hate is like those silly clickbait pages who take a movie star from 1960 and show a picture of them today and say how bad they aged. As an actual car, it was average, not bad, not good. See many for sale with 200,000 on them, not too bad for an average 20-year-old car. They are loud inside, underpowered at speed (as were almost all 4 bangers in the 90's), wore out front-end parts, and brakes a bit quicker than average. There were and are much worse cars made and being made right now.

With respect, Chrysler's image revamp began with the Neon, not the Prowler. It was the Neon that got first time buyers on dealer lots. Most dealers never got a prowler and those that did got a single car for the showroom. It was the same for the Viper. The PT owes it's existence to the Neon.

for over 12 years. 160K mikes i put 120K of those one as a daily drivers.
Parts are cheap, but mechanic labor charges are not. Good thing I’m a mechanic😊. The real complainers are people who have to pay for service and repairs. If you are cheap then this is not the car for you.

'04 GT owner. the H.O. setup is killer. Seriously great fun to have in a car this heavy. Yes it eats control arm and suspension bushings, yes the paint jobs were sketchy, yes they are riddled with oil leak issues, yes they have the dreaded cheap plastics including headlamps that frost over in a few years so bad you have to sand and protect them again and again..
but hot dang... does it haul a**. I've burned plenty of newer v6's and some same year v8's off the stop. ... certainly that has nothing to do with my oil leaks... nope. no way..

Repairing the '01 so I can get about town to work again, and a couple more years the '01 can be plated as a collector car. I then bought a 2.0 petrol Rover which lasted 14 years sold it recently at 22 years old almost 200k no problems at all, no real rot even at 22 years old, despite Rovers slating by media it was the best car I ever had, never let me down nothing went wrong no engine problems, just basic servicing.

I owned a red PT Cruiser CRD for 13 years, and I unfortunately sold it when I retired. The diesel engine is from Mercedes and it is a dream. PT-CRDs are still being sold with 200000 miles / 300 000 on the clock. Last week I was lucky enough to pick one up with zero rust, and technically otherwise in great condition for €2500 (ca GBP 2200), and I‘m sure that it will accompany me for several years just as my first PT did. „Worst car in the world“ ??? Not by a looong shot !!! Note that I refer to the diesel version only with these comments : the reports on the petrol („gas“) versions range mostly from „bad“ to „catastrophic“ with regard to performance and consumption.

Oh dear. How can you defend the indefensible? Lol. Sorry, but these things are hideous. I don't want to be transported around in a vehicle that looks like a hearse for very many years yet. And even then only if I really have to.

@freepieanchipsgarage I fully understand badly built using poor quality materials as a wholly unwanted and unacceptable concept. I like retro cars. What I don't want is retro styling with retro build quality. I depend on my car for my mobility. A car I cannot trust is simply no good to me.

@freepieanchipsgarage you make a very valid point. And while I agree completely, I personally have reached the point in my life where I just want a car that is reliable, comfortable, and not too much of a drain on me financially.

@freepieanchipsgarage very true. I do appreciate classics for what they are, but unfortunately my lack of storage dictates that I only have room for one car. If there is a classic car that can be used every day, I'd love to know what it is.

@@Richard-Bullock In the U.S. garaged PT Cruisers still look pretty nice. Plastic doesn't age well in the sun. I see quite a few of these still looking pretty good, many others are beat
