YourGuitarSage I wanna ask you a question since your the master. So I play without using a pick I wanna know what you think on that is it good or is it bad I've gotten criticism on it and I've gotten compliments on it. So I wanna know if you think I should or shouldn't use em. I'm a beginner learning how to play a handful of chords and wanna make and write my own songs, I'm really big into old 50s stuff like Elvis and Johnny cash especially. Thank you in advance.
Hi Erich great lesson! a lesson of "My sweet lord"- George Harrison would be really awesome. As its a super cool sounding song and you can play it with a Capo or without if you want a challenge with Barre Chords! thanks man
It's not to say that you can't play without a pick, but if you're doing so because it feels awkward, you are limiting yourself. I would suggest doing both because you get a lot better tone from a pick on the electric guitar.
This is really encouraging for someone like me, I picked up the guitar without any training, just to cope with the pressure of medical school and now I can play full fledged covers thanks to your videos and many like them. Sending tons of love from India....❤️ Thank you so much .. Rashi
Great lesson as always. I played this song with a band at a charity dance last Summer. The crowd loved it so much, I could feel the floor bouncing up and down under my feet as everyone got excited dancing to it!
My girlfriend said she was leaving me because of my obsession with The Monkees. I thought she was joking... And then I saw her face... #HowToRockACampfire #EasyGuitarSongs #AcousticGuitarLessons
One of the best guitar lessons I’ve ever had! I learned so much more than a fun song, this video is the biggest reason I have grown into the next stage of a musician!
Barring that third fret while doing the hammer-on seems such a hard task for me atm. The barring finger relaxes when I hammer on 😩 and if I put too much pressure on it I can’t reach the fifth fret to hammer the string. Need to practice. Thanks for the lesson 🙏
As I have small hands/fingers, this was also hard for me. What you can do instead is 1. Hit the 5th string, 3rd fret, then hammer the open 4th string into the 4th string 3rd fret. May not be perfect, but it sounds similar to me.
Beautiful guitar and looks like the LR Baggs pickup. I got the Inspired by Gibson Epiphone J200, got it set up, fret dressed and LR Baggs pickup. Sounds lush!
Eric, help me out here. You Barre the 4th and 5th string at the 3rd fret. Then first hammer on with your pinky then switch to your ring finger. Which is it sir?
I wasn't sure I'd like your channel, but I saw your vids, now I'm a believer.... Looking forward to Saturday's web seminar! P.S. love your Twitter channel too! I'm not really in to instagram.
Still today, my fav Monkees tune is "I'm gonna buy me a dog" ;) Bud, my only acoustic is a '69 Fender Newporter. Neat old ax but kinda flat even with new strings. Looking to get an inexpensive dreadnought & looking at an inexpensive acoustic/electric. Maybe an Ibanez PC15ECE? Thoughts?
I have not played that guitar Karl, however, I would go with online reviews. That said, I do not like purchasing guitars that I haven't played already.
Hey. It's interesting how you direct us to according video when additional knowledge might be needed. Did you consider putting link to a video you're talking about directly into a video for a few seconds, like in adnotation, or something similar?
You have a very german name, did your relatives once settled down in the us? Btw nice vids, just started playing guitar after taking piano lessons for about 17 years so time for another instrument ;) Greetings from Germany
Thank you so much my friend! Yes, my whole family is from Germany. My father grew up in Berlin and fled during the war. His house is now where the Italian Embassy stands.
I get a lot of pain doing the g bar chord thing / lick on this and other songs...its like my thumb is in the way, but I need it to press down so all the strings are covered..whats up w that?
Thanks for stopping by and watching this tutorial video! Did you enjoy it? Let me hear your feedback and comments below. e :)
YourGuitarSage would "Your Guitar 30" have something worthwhile for a player whose been playing for 20 years?

Indeed my friend! I have veterans all the time tell me this.

Great lesson & song Erich! FYI: this song was written by the one and only Neil Diamond, but made famous by the Monkees!
Indeed! How cool is that?
I wasn't sure I'd like your channel, but I saw your vids, now I'm a believer.... Looking forward to Saturday's web seminar! P.S. love your Twitter channel too! I'm not really in to instagram.
Thank you so much Jim! Did you make it to the broadcast today?
YourGuitarSage I did, thank you. I loved the clever "hack" you shared for finding the I chord in a recording!
Still today, my fav Monkees tune is "I'm gonna buy me a dog" ;)

An Epiphone DR 100 is an excellent inexpensive guitar
You sang that pretty good.
Thanks friend!

Indeed! I try to do that as much as possible, but I have made 1000s of vids, so it's WAY too much to keep up with at this point.
So far i have only been pucking the notes with a strum here and there. Been working on the intro getting better. Just need a little more speed.
Slow and steady wins the race Eddie!
Who doesn't love this song?

Dude is a good teacher ... and he looks like Ben Affleck

not joisey but Nashville, wow were you there when Dylan arrived and changed everything?
What guitar you playin
Gibson SJ-200
What became of Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork & Michael Nesmith??
Thanks Vett, good background...
Wow! Thanks so much Vett!
Davey Jones passed away a few years ago. I believe the rest of the band is still alive.
Davy Jones passed away a couple years ago. The rest of them still go on concerts as a "reunion group."
Thanks Glenn
I can't listen to this song without thinking of Shrek lol
👍
I only recall it by the Monkees and by Neil Diamond
Try harder.
That was cute. Perfect song for the movie.
Where's a good place I can learn guitar?
Here’s a link for free access to my beginner course. If you like that, there is a migrate path: www.yourguitarsage.com/30
