    Hello, I am an ethnic Ainu from Sakhalin - Russia. We are the native population of northern Japan and southeastern Siberia. We are descedants of the Northeast Asian Okhotsk and a paleolithic population from Central Asia which migrated to Japan more than 30,000 years ago. The Northeast Asian Okhotsk people were related to other Northeast Asians and Native Americans, while the paleolithic Central Asians are not closely related to any modern group. The paleolithic Central Asians contributed the "European-like look" as they share some genes with Europeans and Middle Easterners, but not all Ainu had such "European-like look". The majority always looked Northeast Asian or a mix of the two looks. The Ainu language and culture originated largely from the Northeast Asian Okhotsk people, thus we have many similarities to other Northeast Asians, Siberians and Native Americans. It is a misconception that all Ainu are hairy or look European. We do not. The majority of historical Ainu and of modern Ainu is similar to other people around the Sea of Okhotsk. Europeans exaggarated the "European" look among Ainu.
    To sum up: We Ainu people came from the combination of the Northeast Asian Okhotsk culture and a paleolithic population which arrived from Central Asia. Thank you all for your interest in my people! :)

Through my reading of Russia and its culture I learned a little of the Ainu people in a region close to Japanese and the fight for the Kuril islands a home land once of the Ainu also.. I have shared this with her in the hope that she can gain a better understanding of the struggles indigenous people have for recognition of their culture language and all things that make them unique and valuable.. Arrow according to dna studies the caucasoids were not displaced, they were assimilated into turkic peoples. Hence why uyghurs,uzbeks and nearly all “western turks” look partly to fully caucasian(most turkmens and other oghuz turks) and the turks of the caucasus like the balkars and karachais etc etc etc are basically scythians/sarmatians who switched to a Turkic language. Dna does not lie.

    • @ArrowBast
      @ArrowBast 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, Ive seen it too and thats what Makes Japan Exceptional - this Ainu substrate that they deny for some weird reason. Legend has it that an Ancient Korean Princess Married a Hairy Ainu Man ( Cue in on Emperor Jimmu ) and the offspring raised in Continental Chinese Tradition were the first new cultured people of the land of the rising Sun, - Since from the Southernmost Korean lands, the nearest islands of Japan can only be spotted clearly at Sunrise. Incidentally the same story holds true for spotting the Yaeyama islands ( Closest of the Japanese Ryukyu Islands) from the Coast of Taiwan . The exonym 'Land of the Rising Sun' is as seen by Chinese observers . Maybe a Renegade Branch of Chinese Royalty from Jiangsu could have run away to the Japanese Islands and formed a local Royal Dynasty with a handful of loyal followers and agricultural slaves and support from local Jomon Chieftains that had some organizational skills . Eventually they also managed to enslave the average Jomon and 'uplift' those who were loyal. There are some eerie parallels between the story of Sri Lanka ( Indo Aryan ruling class that subjugated a mix of Dravidian, Negrito and forest Veddoid /Naga people) With that of Japan. Eventually both Island civilizations managed to tenuously hold on to their relative cultural independence and come up with some grand formative story.

      Alvin Ullanger:
      "
      Peijaiset (in dialectal forms peijahaiset, peijaat or peijaajaiset) is a Finnish concept, dating to pre-Christian times, denoting a memorial feast (akin to a wake) that was held in the honour of a slain animal, particularly the bear, the animal most sacred to ancient Finns. In modern-day usage, it often refers to the celebrations following a successful elk hunt, or a feast at the end of a hunting season. It may also be used in a figurative sense, denoting any memorial held for things that have come to an end ("peijaiset" over e.g. bankrupt companies). Traditionally, it referred to wakes for humans and animals, but also other celebrations, depending on the region in question.
      Karhunpeijaiset is a celebration held for the soul of a bear after a bear hunt. Traditionally, a bear was never "hunted"; it was merely brought down. A single man could claim to have hunted and killed a bear, but when the entire community was involved, the bear was simply said to have died. The bear's spirit had to be told that it had simply fallen into a pit or that it had otherwise killed itself by accident, not by the hunters: this was done to appease the bear's spirit so that it would not be offended and possibly enact some kind of revenge upon the hunters. The ceremony was always a much more elaborate affair than what the most influential member of the community would have merited. In eastern Finland it would have copious mourners and wailers, and the people would address the bear as a relative, or the son of a god. Its flesh was not eaten - that would have been cannibalism - or, if it was, an elaborate show was made to symbolically render the meat into that of another animal, e.g. venison. The bear's head was usually mounted on the top of a young tree, or on a pike, so as to help the bear's spirit climb up into the stars, where it was believed bears' souls had come from. Carrion-eaters would then eat it, leaving only the skull, which would then become an object of veneration. A courtyard would also be cleared around the skull. Traditionally, only bears were honoured thus."

    The Ainu (a word meaning "human" in Ainu language) or Ainu are an ethnic group indigenous to Hokkaido and northern Honshu in northern Japan, as well as the Kuril Islands and the southern half of Sakhalin Island. in Russia. They are also known as ezo or ezo (蝦夷?) in old Japanese and utari (a word meaning "comrade" in the Ainu language), as they prefer to be called today.1 They currently number between 50,000 and 200,000 ethnic Ainu (in whole or in part) in both Russia and Japan. The assimilation of a large part of the Ainu into other ethnic groups makes it difficult to give an exact number of their descendants.They are said to have Caucasoid features, it being claimed in the past that some had exclusively sea or sky eyes and that their women were very hairy, causing them to mix quickly. It is possible that they descend from Russian tribes that migrated eastward from the Ural.
    The Ainu are of very ancient origin, and Caucasoid ancestors are attributed to them; however, today they are associated with the expansion of the first settlers of Asia and the Urals with the present peoples of Siberia and Russia, especially the Nivjas of Sakhalin and the Koryaks or Koryaks of Kamchatka, may have been Aryans from there, Ainos'Aryans. ' speaking Paleosiberian languages, although the Ainu have genetic traits of their own that demonstrate their ancient distinctiveness from other modern populations in the region.2 These findings are consistent with geological and archaeological evidence: the first settlers of Hokkaido arrived during the last ice age, more than 18,000 years ago3. They differ from Japan's main racial group, the Yamato, in that they have much more body hair, and their hair, although almost always black, is sometimes brown.They have REALLY in the past claimed to have blue eyes.They are said to have interbred with people from Russia.

    If the truth be told, Ainu aren't “indigenous people”. The historical relation between Japanese and Ainu isn't definitely between Whites and Native American, because Ainu have same DNA and same roots of language and culture as Japanese. From the point of view of Japanese history, we understand that Ainu are OLD or PURE Japanese. So, in this sense I'm also Ainu, my ancestors were undoubtedly Ainu. Nevertheless, because of radical Ainu rebels and ignorance of people, sadly our government has compromised to call Ainu “indigenous people”.

    • @FireRupee
      @FireRupee 5 лет назад +1

      They have a lot of the same DNA, yes, but not all of it. In "Ethnic derivation of Ainu inferred from mitochondrial DNA data" by Adachi, Kakuda, Takahashi, Kanzawa-Kiriyama, and Shinoda, in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology, the authors of the study report significant Siberian DNA from the Okhotsk culture people in the samples collected from Edo-era Hokkaido Ainu. They also found regional variation and other things.
      But that being said, indigenous people status isn't generally determined by DNA alone. By the 13th century (or 10th century BCE, depending on how you want to count it) the Ainu and the Mainland Japanese were two distinct culture groups, and by the 19th century the Japanese Empire was actively colonizing Hokkaido and banning Ainu culture.
      BUT, if someone wants to learn Ainu culture even if they didn't grow up in it, more power to them.

LOL Ainus are just near to Proto Mongoloid race that makes them a little bit look different. The current DNA analysis completely showed they have no connection to whites or caucasians. They are almost all Japanese and in fact the modern Japanese also share the same DNA as Ainus which is Jomon. Just look at them. They don’t look white at all! Lol

      They have nothing to do with so called "white" people. Genetic studies show they are most similar to Andamanese and Tibetans. And "Russia" is huge, most Paleo-Siberian groups are very different from ethic Russians and are most similar to Native Americans. I am an ethnic Russians and we are originally from the western-most 10% of current Russian territory.

      Also don't use concept of "whiteness", it is really pseudo-scientific and was invented in some western countries only in order to "other-ise" and exclude some Western Eurasian people groups, whom were not "light enough", "European enough", "Nordic enough" etc. For a long time South Europeans and Slavs were not considered "white" for example

      @@KateeAngel The Ainu, Andamanese and Tibetans are similar to each other in the sense that they have common paternal ancestry, but they don't share the same maternal ancestry and, not to mention, phenotypically look completely different. Whether the Ainu have white ancestors or not, you can't deny that some Ainu people look white (In my opinion, they look more like West Asians or South Asians, but Caucasians anyway) .

      Stop bullshitting . There is no evidence of widespread genocide . It was just class difference that emerged between stone age people and those who adopted technology. This whole Ainu genocide shit is a western myth. Yes they were gradually displaced and found themselves marginalized.

      @@ArrowBast lol the ainu and the japanese had been seperate for 1000s of years to the point where you cant class the ainu language with japanese/korean its a language isolate. You cant expect to compare the Ainu who had a completely different language/culture to your cute story about irish migrants descendants differing over the course of a couple of decades. A mix of unfamiliar diseases brought to them and futile skirmishes against the japanese colonialists along with the eventual banning of their language in schools and official capacities fucked them over. On top of taking their land & giving it to japanese migrants and banning them from cultural practices such as hunting/fishing because their distinct culture threatened the myth of Japanese homogeneity. They are only special because they adopted the technological developments from Mainland Asia after 1000 BC and came up with a creation myth and narratives to distance themselves from their Country Cousins ( Ainu) who stayed back as hunter gathers.

      Arrow most likely they did adopt the shinto religion from the Ainu as most shinto terms are of Ainu origin(etymology) like the japanese word for God/deity which is “Kami” most likely came from the Ainu word for their Bear deity which is “Kamuy” etc etc
      Fun fact: Japanese clothing and most culture is a direct copy of the Chinese Tang dynasty period adopted in the 7th century ad called the Taika reform. If you google tang dynasy swords they look nearly the same as the katana just not curved and the google tang dynasty clothing which looks just like the kimono along with the headgear of the nobility to the tea ceremony etc etc. very interesting.
