  • Welcome to The Songwriter’s Workshop. This is the series where I attempt to write songs based on the process and techniques of famous songwriters. Each video looks at a different songwriter’s writing habits, musical inspirations, and creative process while also including an original song written using those techniques.
In this video, we look at the spiritual songwriting process of Lenny Kravitz. From starting with messing around with a guitar track to a full song with several instruments, following Lenny's techniques offers a unique look at the songwriting process. The result is the original song "Run At Love".

Love this method. Great original tune at the end. Stand up comedy is super engaging for the creative spirit and can lead to awesome creations.

Just discovered this, really love the idea and format of this. Would be great to have an overview of what voicings and rhythms artists reuse as well.

thank you for this, it was very inspiring. I love Lenny's music. Your song turned out really well too. I will apply this same process and see what happens!

Interesting. Awoked thinking: ”if you think if to make it short or long, shorter is better.”

Here's my idea for your song. Use the background-ish outro harmonies in every chorus and devolop a more up front even slightly aggressive forefront chorus melody to sing as a hook over top. Maybe even use these harmonies a capella as an intro (or if that's overkill mimic that descending line with a guitar in the intro). Things to try.
