Was planning on putting a fence on my property and was going to put it 6 feet across till I got to the front, but seeing your 45 degree angle pitch leading to the front part of the fence I think I'll do it your way. Looks good. Thanks for the tip. Oh the fence and you are both easy on the eyes. ;)
Enjoyed watching this video, Vikkie. I know it was several years ago and you've learnt a lot since, but some simple advice for your viewers to improve the panel stability and ensure long life. 1. If you stagger cutting your battons (one side longer and one side shorter) creating continuous overlapping, the joints be stronger 2. If you drill a hole at the joint and use a bolt and nut with metal washers through, the joints be bullet proof
And now my family want me to replace our fence panels. Guess what? Out of 5 fence panels, 1 is 30cm less in width (133cm), 2 are 183cm which is OK, another is 186cm so I will need to screw a piece to it, and finally the last one is 50cm wide. It will be an interesting day if it rains. I just hate inheriting other folk's nasty work. Its not as if I can take up the fence posts and set them at the correct spacing as the next-door neighbour had already screwed wood onto the other side of the concrete before we bought the property
Very useful. I have put in about 9 fence panels so far (replacements for rotten ones). Next job will be the good few additional ones with massive tree trunks in the way. This was useful in seeing how you can saw the panels, not something I have tried so far.
hi first of all brilliant job, explantation and finish very honest and sincere yes frost or cold weather does effect the chemistry of concrete setting intact it can really weaken the strength and make it crumble ! As does adding too much water A bit like baking a cake you have to give it the right amount of ingredients and cooking environment - you can additives i.e. frost proofer or similar but again under instructional advisement :) btw i was a chemist turned builder and contractor i love working with my hands and love old sKool building techniques but with todays technology
Treat yourself to a flat type pry/nail bar, and then a folding construction square, add to that a 7/8 tpi 14 inch long tool box panel saw, oh and make a few simple bench hooks for saying free hand with.
Frost is not much of a problem for setting concrete since an additive can be added to the concrete. Also the materials can be kept in the warmth temporarily. My house looks like a construction zone sometimes.
+T wagner our house is like that at the minute lol. Thanks for the tip- I went out to buy some yesterday as today we've dug trenches to install some path edging. Ive put bubble wrap around it too just in case.
First time viewer. Subscribed. I found your video very interesting. I had to completely redo mine this year after an 80 mile per hour wind. Thanks for your video.
Thanks so much Olly :) I saw absolutely no help online, so thought I'd take a stab at it. But tonight as I drove away from my parents' house, I spotted my their ang;ed panel had a mitred top probably cut at a better angle, but still pleased with how it went. The smile on my neighbours' faces was worth it!
Well done you, not many people would tackle this job. The tenon saw wasn't a wise choice, I was cringing when you were cutting with it so close to your hand, praying that I wouldn't we a finger drop to the floor 😱. A pleasing result, you must be well chuffed with yourself.
My Dad hates this saw 😂 I just loved it so much with it being a new purchase at the time. Although can't see myself cutting a finger off with a hand saw.
CD your a damn breath of fresh air to watch - ignore the comment below from P Orzech - Marry me lol - another great tutorial from a classy lady with dirty hands - my hat is off to you Vickie :)
I heard feet, inches and mills a bit of cross measurements going on. I wasn't sure other ppl then us States used "standard" for measuring. But great build
The Carpenter's Daughter I don't mind working in metric. The thing I don't like it when people use mm for everything. It's okay to say 4.5cm or 1.45m as you can visualize it easier instead of saying 45mm or 14500mm as I have a hard time visualizing small measurements large.
I'm watching this again as I thought a new video would have been up last Sunday, but I know your a busy girl lately 😀😀😀 but good things come to them that wait!! Glad you don't kneel on bits of wood these days 👍👍👍👍 nice job this though 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Haha.. sorry there wasn't a video last week! I just knew i couldn't get it edited in time, but there is one definitely today and a few lined up over the next few weeks
+Ray Larkin haha, when my Dad saw this video, he tried giving me a normal saw and said the one I used looked horrible lol. I thought he'd say good choice 🤣 Yes, a nailgun and compressor is on my wishlist! I used my Dad's at his woodyard last week and it was such a time saver!!
Well done you!.. its easy to see u have a very practical mind. Just think of all the knowledge ur gaining as u go!.. looks brilliant!.. u want to come up and do a homer in my garden??.. haha... seriously tho, well done!.. 💪🔨📐✏️
Very nice job it's not easy cutting those panels because they are so cheaply made well done. I thought your dog was going to wee against the panel.lol. Keep up the good work. Brains and good looks keep going girl.
not knocking you in any way i personally would have put a straight edge where you wanted the angle then cut it with a saw then pissed about after I love closeboard panels for this job and not wany like you have to struggle with
@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK,sorry to tell you that your waney lap panels are the worst type of fencing. Ask any fence contractor, the americans wouldn't buy them, that's why they aren't made there.
Nice fence, 2 suggestions1) buy a couple of saw horses, much easier on your lower back2) ger your cheap ass neighbor to split the cost, the newer fence increases his property value as well
Very good job, keep up the excellent work. Personally though, I would have clamped a piece of batton down and ran my circular saw down it. It would have taken 20 seconds to cut
oh no you never changed your mind,,,your a chippies daughter for sure all them saws ,measurements,id of sawn it off where it was,,maybe thats why i aint a chippie and a mere hoddy, being as you were sacked for missing a bit,you can have the start, monday 6.30 am as long as you got your hat boots and green jacket, cscs card.,,na but good work worth it at the end of the day,,dont you want a gate to keep spot[ the dog] in,,,a kennel also ,but you may change your mind and do summat else to the fence, well done !!go steady up them ladders looked a bit iffy. cheers
I was hoping it would be as simple as sawing it all off the top, but then I realised they weren't the same on either side. And one mistake and I may have had to buy a new fence panel :( Yes, I'm desperate for new steps - they have a crack in them lol
you want to come round my pad and do some jobs . only a drive , bathroom and kitchen . tile floor though out downstairs . electrical work . if your about for about 3 months LOL
I work as a welder/fabricator, so most of the time the repairs need to be made where the equipment is sitting... working in a quarry that means outside most of the time. I like you don't have a home shop to work in, much less a heated one. Right now I would like to work on a couple of videos to post here on YT but it's cold and raining outside. It's the fun of living here in the Pacific Northwest this time of year. Tomorrow is not going to be fun for me... I'll be down in the bowels of an excavator welding up some broken teeth on the units ring gear that swings it side to side... then comes the fun of shaping them so they work... The work is hard on the nails and nail polish but I enjoy doing it and it is very rewarding at the end of the day. I think you understand... The wow I did that when the job is done. There is something rewarding about having something to show for a days work. I have friends that are computer nerds and I got them into making stuff outside the computer. They both agree working in CAD is nice but making it with your hands and turning an idea into a 3-d object is much more enjoyable.
I don't have a shed much less a heated one to work in. But that's okay I hope that will change sometime soon. Making something with your hands and having something physical and real to show for your time and effort is very satisfying. I work as a welder/fabricator in a quarry fixing equipment so the work is hard at times but when the day is over you can have pride it what you have done. I thought I had replied to you this morning... Oh well not to worry. Blessings Kriss

This is brilliant Vikkie, I'm thinking of doing that myself as I'll be dropping from 7ft (windbreak for patio door) to 4ft

Exactly! Always treat new cuts with preserver. Good instructions, good video.

+Al S thanks so much 😊 Hopefully I won't ever have to do it again, but at least I now know it wasn't difficult 😁
Fence definitely looks better the way you did it. Great work!
Cheers :)
Great job. Nice finish to the whole project.
+Rod Peterson thanks 👍😊
Another nice job Vikkie, a tidy looking result... well done :)
Cheers +Dave Scott :) So glad I gave it a go 😉
good job, i used a circular saw and cut the bit i didn't need. then finished off like your fence
That looks great! Brilliant work!
Thank you +Make It Soph :) so glad the neighbours love it too 🙌 Would've been awkward if they didn't 😄
Make It Soph dvdbdgbfb
Nice job Vikki. You might consider Japanese pull saw in place of the tenon saw. I find this is easier to cut with, and control. Subscribed for more!!!
Thanks again! They looked lethal when I googled them haha
It really improved the appearance. (Not that is was bad before) Your QC inspector is hard core.
Thanks :) He's a such a bully in the workplace 😂
Wow very impressive work indeed! Great video, thanks.
Thanks!
Lovely sharing !Awesome Job
Brilliant information. Thanks
I wish someone made gravel board risers, like a thin length of concrete, to raise the boards up to suit etc.
Wow, you are fearless.
Cheers :)
I think you've done really well, Vikkie. I'm sure others will have attempted this and made a right pig's ear of the job. :-)

Great job, more satisfying to do it yourself than pay for one to be done.
+Kevin Cuthbert yes definitely :) and I learnt something for next time 😀
Looks very good... artistic..
Thanks 😀
Just noticed your patrion all over that will be subscribing over there later today!
Great video well done 👍👍
Fantastic job, looks great girl, well done to you 👍😉💕💕
Thank you 🤗
I heard feet, inches and mills a bit of cross measurements going on. I wasn't sure other ppl then us States used "standard" for measuring. But great build
+dsmmike95 haha, I know! My Dad works in inches, fiance in mm... I need to commit to one 😑 My heart says metric.

Thank you :)
Nice work.
Thank you Andy :) Nice Celtic style spoon btw ;)
Thank you!!
very impressive
Cheers :)
Does your quality inspector have four legs and wear the same coat every day?
Great job...
Thanks 😀
Great again! You might invest in a small compressor and nailguns.
PS, you were a trooper with the back saw (tenon saw) and you need saw horses. 😉🖒

Awwww, thanks!! :) 😘

haha, I thought he was going to too... (I was disappointed when he didn't) 😆 He wees on most things lol
Your neighbor was very brave parking his car inches away from your concrete post locations.
You should get some t-shirts made ..some kind of logo/slogan... I'd buy one because I'm your fan!
Haha brilliant, love Hans hi viz jacket! 😁
:D Couldn't resist!!!! lol
Great job! Looks smart ;)
Thanks Shaun! :)
7:41 Your fence alteration lines up with your neighbor's roof line!
So they do!! haha
not knocking you in any way
i personally would have put a straight edge where you wanted the angle then cut it with a saw then pissed about after
I love closeboard panels for this job and not wany like you have to struggle with
Same here. Offset straight edge for thickness of top baton/trim and one cut straight through does the job.
I don't understand why that type of fencing isn't in the u.s. it's easy (But heavy) to install and lasts years.
Yes, same here! It's so sturdy!

Looks good to me.....
Aww, thanks! :)
Very good job, keep up the excellent work.
Personally though, I would have clamped a piece of batton down and ran my circular saw down it. It would have taken 20 seconds to cut

@@TheCarpentersDaughterUK I bet you do now?
I wouldn't be without mine
Yes, absolutely :)
Great Job :) keep up the good work :)
Thank you :)
I've been loving your uploads, another great job here. Although your dog voice over needs work :)
hahaha, definitely need to work on that!!! 😂 And glad you're enjoying them 😀
Looks really good ! Do you live on a main road lol
Lol and thanks :)
It’s not that bad as her house is quite far away.
I have no idea what you are saying, but I sure do want you to keep on saying it!!
Dove tail saw
Thanks +John Mcghee... after my Dad watched this, he offered me one of his saws and said the one I used was a horrible lol
Tenon saw, climb back into the box, Mr mcgee
What a beauty 😏👍

Easy on the eye , the fence or you ? 😉 Good video

A carpenters daughter should have a pencil behind her ear......🤣
Sometimes... and sometimes in my hair lol
It definitely is “posher”
Glad you think so +Dave Williams. It better not break if we have some nasty wind or I'll be having words with it!!!! 😂
😂👍 you would have been safe with the jigsaw, love.
+kodiak wild just incase it rained again. I was using an extension lead and it was still rather wet outside.
great job yet again loving the furry quality inspector btw ;) lol
+Richard Jones thank you :) I'll pass the message on 😄😉
but that cloud burst wow you must have got soaked
Yes, it did lol. Similar to the one when I did my patio... I'm cursed! :(
yeah I did notice incredible rain
You're so cool.
