  • Last weekend, we just beat the frost by installing the rest of our fencing. (Apparently frost creates problems for setting off concrete).
If you want to see how we installed our first lot, then you can watch that video here: • Concrete Fence Post Fe...
And for the remaining fence panels, we chose the following from our local place, Buildland and used the following:
As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases made through links.
    2ft lap panels: bit.ly/2hEM4hk
    1ft gravel boards: bit.ly/2xMvVKP
    5ft concrete posts: bit.ly/2xI9nxd
    Gravel: bit.ly/2xHorvd
    Post mix
    Trenching Shovel: geni.us/ssXAP [Amazon]
Wickes Red Cedar Fence Stain: bit.ly/2khxfm3
But, Buildland don't offer bespoke services to my knowledge about angled fencing and wanted the exact panels. So, I decided to give altering one a go myself as it looked it and it was. The total cost, including trim (excluding of tools) was about £20.
I also bought three pieces from Oakdale fencing (two top spars & top trim): bit.ly/2hhxYix
    Tools I Used:
    Tenon saw: geni.us/3xlVqB [Amazon]
Black & Decker Jigsaw: geni.us/CmcEa9N [Amazon]
    Wickes' Preserver: bit.ly/2jgMcVc
Dewalt Mitre saw (or just use a mitre box and hand saw): geni.us/RMyKab [Amazon]
    Bacho saw: geni.us/il7WA [Amazon]
My supervisor's Hi Viz Fluorescent High Visibility Safety Vest (like this one lol) geni.us/mzbjY4A [Amazon]

Was planning on putting a fence on my property and was going to put it 6 feet across till I got to the front, but seeing your 45 degree angle pitch leading to the front part of the fence I think I'll do it your way. Looks good. Thanks for the tip. Oh the fence and you are both easy on the eyes. ;)

And now my family want me to replace our fence panels. Guess what? Out of 5 fence panels, 1 is 30cm less in width (133cm), 2 are 183cm which is OK, another is 186cm so I will need to screw a piece to it, and finally the last one is 50cm wide. It will be an interesting day if it rains. I just hate inheriting other folk's nasty work. Its not as if I can take up the fence posts and set them at the correct spacing as the next-door neighbour had already screwed wood onto the other side of the concrete before we bought the property

Enjoyed watching this video, Vikkie. I know it was several years ago and you've learnt a lot since, but some simple advice for your viewers to improve the panel stability and ensure long life.
    1. If you stagger cutting your battons (one side longer and one side shorter) creating continuous overlapping, the joints be stronger
    2. If you drill a hole at the joint and use a bolt and nut with metal washers through, the joints be bullet proof

  • @janesmith9024

Very useful. I have put in about 9 fence panels so far (replacements for rotten ones). Next job will be the good few additional ones with massive tree trunks in the way. This was useful in seeing how you can saw the panels, not something I have tried so far.

    hi
first of all brilliant job, explantation and finish very honest and sincere
yes frost or cold weather does effect the chemistry of concrete setting intact it can really weaken the strength and make it crumble !
As does adding too much water
A bit like baking a cake you have to give it the right amount of ingredients and cooking environment - you can additives i.e. frost proofer or similar but again under instructional advisement :)
btw i was a chemist turned builder and contractor
i love working with my hands and love old sKool building techniques but with todays technology

Thanks so much Olly :) I saw absolutely no help online, so thought I'd take a stab at it. But tonight as I drove away from my parents' house, I spotted my their ang;ed panel had a mitred top probably cut at a better angle, but still pleased with how it went. The tenon saw wasn't a wise choice, I was cringing when you were cutting with it so close to your hand, praying that I wouldn't we a finger drop to the floor 😱.

Frost is not much of a problem for setting concrete since an additive can be added to the concrete. Also the materials can be kept in the warmth temporarily. My house looks like a construction zone sometimes.

      +Kriss Femmpaws thanks and you're right... it really isn't! Shame I don't have a heated workshop 😁

    • @Femmpaws
      @Femmpaws 6 лет назад +1

I work as a welder/fabricator, so most of the time the repairs need to be made where the equipment is sitting... working in a quarry that means outside most of the time.
I like you don't have a home shop to work in, much less a heated one. Right now I would like to work on a couple of videos to post here on YT but it's cold and raining outside. It's the fun of living here in the Pacific Northwest this time of year.
Tomorrow is not going to be fun for me... I'll be down in the bowels of an excavator welding up some broken teeth on the units ring gear that swings it side to side... then comes the fun of shaping them so they work... The work is hard on the nails and nail polish but I enjoy doing it and it is very rewarding at the end of the day.
I think you understand... The wow I did that when the job is done. There is something rewarding about having something to show for a days work.
I have friends that are computer nerds and I got them into making stuff outside the computer. They both agree working in CAD is nice but making it with your hands and turning an idea into a 3-d object is much more enjoyable.

    • @Femmpaws
      @Femmpaws 6 лет назад

I don't have a shed much less a heated one to work in. But that's okay I hope that will change sometime soon. Making something with your hands and having something physical and real to show for your time and effort is very satisfying.
I work as a welder/fabricator in a quarry fixing equipment so the work is hard at times but when the day is over you can have pride it what you have done.
I thought I had replied to you this morning... Oh well not to worry.
      Blessings Kriss

The Carpenter's Daughter I don't mind working in metric. The thing I don't like it when people use mm for everything. It's okay to say 4.5cm or 1.45m as you can visualize it easier instead of saying 45mm or 14500mm as I have a hard time visualizing small measurements large.
