All of these games are absolutely Euro games. Don't doubt yourselves that much! That may be an issue with the "euro" category, though!

Thanks for the kind comment! 🙂 It does seem to be a very broad category!

We need to stop using Euro as a category 😂 it varies so much now

That is fair! I think it has gotten to the point where it is interchangeable with strategy game.

I was curious if Praga Caput Regni would make the list and it did! Admittedly, I need to get that played more but that setup is lengthy and so I usually pick something else (unfortunately).
I am also surprised by Russian Railroads’ BGG weight because the decision space for me seems closer to Architects of the West Kingdom which is only a 2.75. The only real complexity seems to be choosing which track(s) to extend.

Yeah the unfortunate thing with a lot of the heavier weight games is sometimes the setups are a bit of a bear making them less likely to get to the table. You just know you're in trouble when you are already using energy just to get things set up correctly. 😆 I agree with what you're saying about Russian Railroads. It has a very "classic" worker placement space that seems like an AotWK or Stone Age or something along those lines which I would agree is not that complex in the grand scheme of things. I still have not played it as much as a like, but I do feel like the management of tracks is the tough part to wrap my mind around. 🚂🛤️

Castles of Burgundy is in your top 10 after having played it 1 time? Have you only played 10 games so far?

Lacking theme is NOT a defining characteristic of a Euro. Euro's tend to have a thin veneer of theme, but they can also have rich theme.

That is fair! I think even the thin veneer of themes tend to work for me. Considering even Ameritrash games don't seem to capture theme all the time just maybe more storytelling.

wow very rarely do i watch a top 10 list where I don't agree with any of the games.

What would you say your top 10 would be? I'm always looking for solid recommendations! 🙂

@@NachoAverageTableTop I like nail biter games with interaction between the players. Games like Agricola (cutthroat and tight, just how i like it!) Hansa Teutonica, Alien Frontiers (the best dice worker placement game there is), Troyes, Dune Imperium, Battle Line, Concordia, Tammany Hall and El Grande for awesome area control, and classics like Power Gride. Just games where your not just sitting around taking turns doing a solitaire puzzle activity with other people. I like games with high tension. I don't know if they are the exact top 10 but definitely they are all all in my top 15.

@@WhatsDaveUpTo For some reason Dune Imperium didn't pop into my head for this list, but it definitely should have made the list. I enjoy it more and more with each play. I also liked Concordia a lot the couple times we played, but no one else in my game group seemed to enjoy it as much. I initially enjoyed Agricola a lot but with more plays I could definitely feel that tightness you are talking about, but it felt like a tightness of having to try to do all the same things every time and I personally didn't enjoy that as much as having a little more freedom. I can definitely see why it is a favorite of many though. I prefer Feast for Odin and Caverna. The others I haven't had a chance to play yet. You've got me pretty excited about Alien Frontiers! I love dice placement. 🙂

@@NachoAverageTableTop Agricola is a card play game disguised as a worker placement game. The game is in knowing when to play what cards, how to synergize cards together and when to go for what space. Its definitely a knife fight game of area denial. Alien Frontiers is the bee's knees. I think you'd love it. As great as Alien Frontiers is, Hansa Teutonica tops it. HT has me thinking about the game weeks after I play like no other game. It take 2 minutes to set up. 5 minutes to explain, and turns take seconds. Say goodbye to your fingernails playing HT. Also, the Hansa Teutonica Big Box is in my view, the best value for your money in board gaming today. If you like dice worker placement, then definitely check out Troyes. Its also a dice worker placement game, and if I could only save 5 games in a house fire, Troyes would definitely be one of them.

The BGG weight rating is completely useless. Just pick your own scale. One of my games is heavier on their weight list at base game than it is with the expansion, which practically doubles the complexity. Smh.

Yeah I agree it definitely isn't the greatest scale, we were just trying to use something as a reference point. I think you are right in thinking the best way to measure it is kind of have your own gaming group scale for yourself.
