Maybe show the game next time?
Foundations of Rome?
FoR definitely has a great production, but I think at its price I'm not sure on the production to price value. 🤔
I don't own it yet, it's not widely available yet, and currently it's $55 on the company's website, but I would add Diatoms. Just the base game looks gorgeous.
From looking at it quickly here and never hearing about it before it does look pretty great! 😯
Tanks :)
🤣
Hey thanks for sticking Honey Buzz on here.
😊 It is actually the one game we immediately think about whenever we hear production value.
Have you tried Fairy Tale (2004)? Small box, drafting game.
I hadn't actually even ever heard of that one! Is it pretty good?
@@NachoAverageTableTop There are a couple of publications of it. Try to get the latest one with the most cards. And your first game will be confusing, but after that it clicks and does what it does well. Helpful to watch a play thru video too.
Just recently got The gang which is compaired to the mind quite a bit. Ever try? Excited to give it a go. Just got my first exit game a couple months ago and will have to plan that out sometime. Is the experience the same acrossed the players counts? I own tiny epic galaxies and hanabi which are both great ones! Other great ones that i own would be Hive pocket, trails, biblios, love letter hobbit, floriferous, nimalia, downtownfarmers market, high society, guillotine, fantasy realms, for sale, point salad, bohnanza, no thanks, bang the dice game, one night ultimate werewolf, space team, longshot the dice game, cartographers, and incan gold. Ones on my shelf of shame that could work would be scout, skull king and the gang. Not really sure what the cut off for size is but these all could fit in big stocking lol. I have to make mention i watched your top 100 and picked up Akropolis because i beleieve it was mentioned. Got in my first play over this past weekend and love it. 🙂. Would love to try thats pretty clever or one in the series. Waiting for a sale on that. Thanks again for all the content!
We have The Gang and are looking forward to trying it very much! :D I would say the EXIT Games experience can possibly be hurt at the highest player count. Depending on the puzzles it has and how your group plays, it is possible that there won't be much to go around at any one time during the game. 2 and 3 players is usually great, but at 4 it may leave a player on the outside of a puzzle as you don't always need 4 people to solve a step. But sometimes there will be lots of things to do and you can give something to everyone! :) I don't have any experience with Solo play, but think it would work fine. But you may find yourself stumped more often. So many good picks named here! We have a giant stocking, and I agree they would all fit! :D That's Awesome! Glad we could bring another Akropolite into the world! :D Thank you for watching and trusting our opinions. Not always a great idea, lol, but it worked out here! ;D
Cunning Folk is my favorite Button Shy game so far. Its Coup with a bit of memory on top.
We will have to look into that one more!
You guys should try Keyflower
That's one we have played actually, and I really enjoyed it, but Pepper and MaK were not the biggest fans! - Zach
Great list - really gets to the heart of this hobby :) Some of your points I really connected with... - Ease of Play - Games that come with custom inserts to store everything neatly or that have individual player pieces self-contained (7 Wonders Architects does this great) are just really satisfying. It's that joy of being able to experience something that had just THAT much more effort and thought put into it, it makes for such a pleasing experience. - Living the Theme - I enjoy abstract games, but there's nothing like a wonderful theme to draw me in. Ultimately, it's like getting to play pretend or like escaping into a great movie/book world. When the ship in Nemesis is on fire and the aliens are hunting us down, it's fun to play into that drama. When we're chasing and smashing into each other in Thunder Road Vendetta, I can all but hear the metal crunches and see cars exploding into cliffsides. - Beauty - Honestly, besides fun, this one is my favorite of your list. Beautiful artwork on cards, lovely wood pieces, boards that are visually interesting AND functional, plastic tokens, miniatures... all of it is wonderful. I will definitely be drawn to a game because of how great it looks, to the point that if the gameplay then looks not-fun I'm really disappointed - even without having bought it, I'm just sad for that potential. One of my favorite things about Unmatched is that we never preview a character's deck before the first time we play them, instead getting to see all of that great art as cards are drawn and played throughout the game. - Surviving the Winter - We live in sunny southern CA, so our idea of bundling in for winter weather gaming means it's not even hitting freezing outside, but instead on very hot days when it'd be way too warm to have a TV on or do other things in our one-bedroom apartment, being able to just unplug and play games has been great! And I think my number one thing I'm thankful for about gaming is part of your fun category, but very specifically: the shared stories that get told. As an example, when we were playing through a scenario in Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion that had been kicking our butt, we finally got to a point where the final boss was just about dead. We could have drawn some bad luck to take us out, but he only needed one more hit for us to win. The air was electric, my adrenaline was going, and we kept repeating "he only needs one" - and then we pulled it off and won. It was a great, hilarious, bonding moment, in which we victoriously yelled "He only needs one!"... and still say it today. There are fun experiences in games that create these special shared moments, the memories of an amazing victory, playing a rule so wrong that we accidentally put ourselves into Super Hard mode and STILL won, losing a game by just one point, pulling off an amazing combo... and all from just playing with toys :)
He only needs one! :D I love this! Amazing explanation of each of these! :D I agree that the best part is the stories and moments that we carry with us and continue to reference even years later! That Jaws of the Lion play sounds so fun!! I have a few of those for JotL as well, and i only played it solo. I can only imagine what it'd be like with a group! :D Cooperative games seem to provide so many of those moments. Your group is united to take down the game itself, and when it all comes down to one big moment...it can be legendary! And equally legendary when we get obliterated immediately! XD Hah! I'm glad we're not the only ones who have nerfed ourselves by playing a rule wrong! :D
While I do take note of a number rating in video reviews, such as on Dice Tower, I'm most interested in the reviewers commentary, so I don't know that putting the number first would mean much to me personally. For example, if a reviewer rates something low, but it's for things that don't bother me, then the number is almost meaningless. Getting at least a brief overview of how a game is played in a review is actually the most important part to me - I'm able to start forming my own opinion on if it seems interesting, and then the reviewers will enhance that (e.g. "Yes, that part looks cool, but it gets repetitive" "The quality of the pieces impacts playability because the cubes don't fit on the board" etc.). And I, too, am all for the casual, conversational reviews :). The other format I really loved was Zee Garcia's older solo review videos where he broke down things at the end by a positive/negative system for things like aesthetics and replayability.
Awesome thoughts here! Context is extremely important for a number rating. Knowing why is equally, if not more important than the number rating itself. We all have different thoughts, and will react to games in different ways. I agree about Zee's solo reviews! Those were fantastic! :D
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! :)
Happy Thanksgiving to you! Thank you! :)
@NachoAverageTableTop You are welcome, and thank you! :)
A tie for me...I'm going with that pumpkin pie and the stuffing. Mmm, mmm, mmmmmm!
Thanks for your nice video! I enjoyed it.
Thank you for watching and for the great game! I just received Pirates of Maracaibo as an early Xmas gift and can't wait to get it to the table!
@@NachoAverageTableTop Have fun!
I got this game yesterday and I love it!!
I am so glad to hear that! It is just a lot of luck-based dice rolling fun, but it works so well! 🙂
Enjoyed this implementation on BGA - more than a few card games caught our attention this year thanks to BGA.
Yeah it is really a great platform for those types of games and has got me pretty interested in purchasing a physical copy!
With Downfall of Pompeii, you MUST make meeple screaming noises when you toss them into the volcano.
Of course you do! 😆
I'm starting to make my reaction video to your reaction video. 😂
Haha! :D
Missed Tide & Tangle? Cute otters, relaxing vibe, lovely art, and origami details - worth a look.
We will try to take a look at your project in the next episode. :) Very Cute! I love Otters!
@@NachoAverageTableTop Thank you ♥
Sometimes after the first time playing a game I’ll look through the cards, but never before
That is exactly the way I do it!
0:47 cloak and dagger haven't appeared in the mcu "technically" but they do have their own show that's a pretty good watch (especially season 2)!
I will have to look into that!
Thanks for the review on these expansions! I wasn't really considering Rise of Fenris, but i think i'll look more i to it now!
I hope if you decide to get it that you enjoy it as much as we did!
I enjoyed this one over Cat Lady cause I don't like cats. That being said, this was fine. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for watching! 🙂
Have you guys checked out Shallow Sea? I’m debating whether or not to back it. It looks to be a mix between Cascadia and Calico with a bit more decision making ability
Just took a look at it and it looks pretty good! We will have to remember to cover it in the next episode! :D It definitely has a Cascadia feel to it. I also get a bit of a Sagani feel from how you complete tiles by surrounding them with certain colors!
I’ve heard Azul Duel is meant to just be the 4th iteration with a rule set and mechanics that would not work for more than two players. So a game all on its on, just in the same universe
Interesting. I am interested in learning more about it when it comes out! 😊
I’d add abomination heir of Frankenstein, My Father’s Work (abomination and my father’s work both show how euros can have theme and can be spooky!) the bloody inn, dead of winter, witchstone, mansions of madness, eldritch horror, arkham horror the lcg, massive darkness 2, zombicide, machina arcana, etherfields if you are looking for a campaign, hellton palace if you are looking for a 2 player game, and suppose I’d have to say horrified.
Those are great picks!! Interested in most of those, but the only one i've played so far is Dead of Winter. And, while we considered it for this list, we thought it fit better for another holiday coming up soon. ;D
1) Everdell 2018, Wingspan 2019 2) Spacial selection is usually called worker placement (even if you are not placing actual meeples) 3) Chaining is usually called making combos or engine building Thank you for your honest discussion of games in all your content. Even some of the content creators I used to like have become hype machines. I guess if your their goal was to monetize their podcasts, they had to do that. Anyway, thank you for keeping it real 💯
We always try to keep it real. I know sometimes I can hype myself up a bit and be really excited after a first play so some of our first impressions may not be the same feelings I have in 5 plays, but I try to at least mention things I think may turn people off the game. But of all the videos we have posted only about 3 percent, if even have been review copies we were sent. Not that we wouldn't accept more if we were offered them, but that has really been all we've received so far. So, we know the feeling of what it can cost to be a fan of board games and buying them and try to give people an idea of what they are buying. 🤑
I have not played this in years. But I remember really loving it. I need to get great games like this back to the table.
It is so tough having a long list of great games that I want to get back to the table, but just can't find the time. I think there is a Christmas day promo envelope in there so if you haven't opened that up it gives you a reason to play it coming up here. 😊
Just recently bought the game. That was a great review of the rules. Thanks !
Thanks for watching! :) Glad you enjoyed!
If you ONLY did Top 20, do you think anything would change about any of your lists?
I, Pepper, could see feeling the need to push some of the classics like Kingdomino and Carcassonne up to make it on the list as it would feel wrong to not mention them. I think my top 10 would all stay in the list for sure. But the 20-11 is my favorite section of the list because it seems to be where all the big debuts and underplayed games will end up. They're amazing, but don't have enough history to justify a top ten spot and as a result are left in the 20-11. If I only had 20, I think a lot of those would get bumped out in favor of games that have had a bigger influence over the years.
This is all I wanted for Christmas.
Feliz Navidad!
Wow, I guess I should have watched this before our BGA showdown. I could have been swayed to play CoB if I knew where it ranked! Glad to see some of the tried and true games still on the list here. Of yours, Space Base, Five Tribes, Wingspan, Bunny Kingdom, Cartographers, and Unmatched would for sure be in my Top 10. I think I'd have an easier job coming up with my Top 70 games I want to (re)play than identifying my top X games, though. I'd list them all out here, but I might run out of characters (surely there's a limit). :)
Hah! That is a great bunch of games! Now I am curious how your list would compare to ours. Sounds like you would have a good amount of crossover! Sadly, a lot of our top 70 could fall under games we want to replay. :P
hahahah the only thing missing from the final skit was the Spongebob Squarepants theme for "3 minutes later..." :D
Yes!! :D
" I want this to be a good game and I want to pay a lot of money for it." Ha 😊. They should put that quote on the KS page. Would be the best ever. 😊
Hah!! :D
Surprisingly entertaining!!
Thank you very much!
Cant wait for Valheim
Awesome! Hope it lives up to the hype!
Congratulations! And a fun ending. 🤭🤭🤭
😊😉
I need to give Quacks and Cascadia a try. Seeing the 17 game that were on all 3 of your lists was interesting. Do your Kingdomino numbers change any if you group it with Queendomino?
I (Pepper) am prone to grouping series of games together. So i actually couldn't even see myself listing them separately. :D Has it boosted Kingdomino for me? No. I have only played QD once or twice at this point and prefer KD. I could see it boosting it a little bit if i started playing it more often though. :)
Congratulations to the winners!! Thank you guys for the fun top 70 and the statistical recap. Love your show!
Thank You for sticking with us through it all! Very glad you enjoyed!
I’m sorry Zach, I only meant it in jest! I apologize if it was a lot of roasting😂 I started getting into Garphill games a few months ago and I have 5 now and counting! Very excited to add shipwrights to the collection. Thank you so much! P.S. I am very sorry
Haha no need to apologize! It wasn't a lot of roasting it was definitely some good roasting considering I only had 4 in my top 70! 😆I told Pepper after we had picked the winners "I think 006 is the one that was giving me a hard time about being an actual fan" and I thought it would be fun to add a little skit to the end of the video. As you can tell my acting of trying to keep a straight face is pretty terrible. 🤣 We really appreciate the interaction! 😊
By the way you can email zach_valentin@hotmail.com so we can get your game sent out. 🙂
@@NachoAverageTableTop it was a funny skit at the end. Great idea! Haha
@@NachoAverageTableTop I emailed you a couple of minutes ago, if timestamps matter.

Congrats to the winners and more importantly thanks for the great content!

Stellar stats. Above and beyond. One of the best stats analyses of top 100s I have seen in the hobby. Really interesting - my favorite is the within 5. Wow, Mak, that is impressive.
Wow! Of the three or so stats analyses of Top 100 board games on RUclips, we are one of the best! Lol! But really, thank you very much! It means a lot! :D That within 5 was insane!!
Huzzah! I followed the whole Unmatched tourney last year. And would also watch another tourney with previously unpicked characters.
I would second that! Bring on another Unmatched tournament 🎉🎉
Hmm...I guess there really is no such thing as "Too Much Unmatched!" :D That has to be my (Pepper) favorite project we have ever done! Odds are HEAVILY in favor of doing another tournament. The big question is how soon we will be able to do it. I just hope it can live up to the first one! :D
I really like that 3 way crossover score. Very cool.
Yes!!
Congrats to the winners!!

I debuted 3 games into my top 10 this year...not crazy.
Sure....... :D
Clearly this list was my sign to get Five Tribes back to the table!
Absolutely!
