I remember that hearing this music for a first time made me feel like it's over and the kingdom is truly dead. It feels so hopeless. Christopher Larkin is a great artist.
@@homecheese8625 There are so many ways this game is subtly influenced by Dark Souls, in a good way. This and the Abyss are the two more obvious examples, with this one accompanied by ash.

The climb up the ash covered, desolate landscape surrounded by the large flying creatures, just hovering in the air was magical. It conveyed the feeling of death and decay so effectively
Such a wonderful yet sad piece of music, the edge of a Kingdom that had died away and its lingering echoes reverb off the cliff walls. Also, you get to meet one of the most annoying flying enemies ever! :D
Was kinda upset just seeing Tiso end up like that. Never reached that part on the coliseum so I was just climbing up Kingdoms edge one day and found him like that.
It is really sad. But if there's anything I've learned from playing over 765 hours of the game it's that _everything_ has some level of tragedy to it. Not even tiso or the blue lake was safe from this
De hecho cuando llegué al coliseo, me encontré a Tiso en las barracas, sentado en la banca esperando su turno, supongo que lastimosamente perdió y fue desechado como los demás
This track has the most personality in the game. The music tells the story of a old, ruined kingdom perfectly, and feels medieval. I think even city of tears doesn't have anything on this.
I'm a Russian Hollow Knight fan. I live in Norilsk, you may have heard about this city, it is called the most depressing. It is located in the far north, I literally live not only on the edge of my country, but perhaps on the edge of the world. Now I'm looking out the window at how slowly the snow falls in May on the wet asphalt surrounded by ugly houses, just like the remains of a wyrm's skin . I love my country and I feel like it is dying doing its evil things. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I think I felt this track better than many
I just googled it and....wow, at the same time it's sad how deplorable the city and humanity's level of pollution is, walking through Norilisk whilst hearing this song is probably a good time, hope you are safe out there and hugs from brazil
@@player1marcio744 Thank you so much my friend for your consolations! Actually, while all of the humanity goods are available to you and you have some good friends, you can adapt almost to anything. Yeah, I`m living not in the poor family (actually there are very good salaries there), but it`s psychologycally very difficult to live in such a place. especially since I was not born here and was had to move to Norilsk. Anyways, thanks a lot, my friend. Wish you all of the best!
I think this is the first time that a area in Hollownest feels truth dead. The others themes like city of tears, crossroads, etc etc, they have themes that can feel welcoming or hints at a community living there. But this sounds like there was a community, WAS. Just the sorrow state it’s in was unexpecteting when I entered it.
This is easily my favorite area location theme in the game, and I have a bit of a story behind it. I had just gotten the tram pass, and was exploring the tram between Deepnest and Ancient Basin. I decided to see what was on the right, and I'm put into a series of dark tunnels with large but seemingly docile bugs. These caverns are cramped and somewhat claustrophobic, and the bees that come to sting you are kinda annoying. But then I broke a barrier after climbing through the tunnels, and then... this track plays. Whenever I hear this track, I always think about that story, a feeling of entering a massive, bright cavern after clambering through tight and dark holes.
Kingdoms edge is one of the most underrated areas in the entire game. The music and atmosphere is perfect, and the enemies are actually pretty balanced considering it's supposed to be a late game area
It was always hard deciding what my favorite area was. But I think kingdoms edge is my favorite. I just love the way it looks and I love the soundtrack. Just love everything about it.
So I decided to write a comment under every song in my massive video game music playlist, giving my thoughts and feelings about whatever the current piece is. This is more for me than for you, but you can still enjoy reading them. Kingdom's Edge was one of the very last areas in Hollow Knight that I discovered, as I suspect the case is for many. This song holds a sense of wonder because of that, as I always think about that first time. I was amazed by how, even with everything I've found, there's somehow still more hidden out here, all the way at the end of the world. The somber tone does nothing but help this, making it feel like this may be the very last new thing to find within Hallownest. This song also makes you feel the death of the kingdom even more, with the quiet bells, vague vocals, and drawn out strings sounding almost like a funeral song. It truly exemplifies the hopelessness of the kingdom, and how alone The Knight is in its quest to save it. This is yet another song that has a lot of personal meaning to me. Hollow Knight is my favorite video game of all time, and its music often makes me emotional. It's placement near the top of the playlist not only shows this love, but also pairs well with the previous song, keeping up its grandiose and mysterious tone. In case you wanted to follow along with my comments, the next song is LEGO Battles: King Campaign.

When I got to this area, I thought this would lead to "the enemy" territory, seeing all those little bees, turned out Hallownest had no enemies but themselves, the hive wanted nothing to do with their objetives
Very cosmic. Maybe because it happens in the highest point of the kingdom, where the line between cosmic and land creatures is blurred, thus the Radiance statue.
A lot of people say this music is sad, but for some reason this to me feels like a land forged long long ago. Almost like Lord of the Rings. It sounds so fantasy like, as if I’m in a land I’ve never been in before.
i dont really care for the music of this game, but i REALLY wanna know how they made the look/design of the game look SOOOOO similar to how this music sounds. it just matches the feel of the areas of the areas so much. This game gives me huge amounts of amazement. perfect example of what Quality over Quantity can lead to. Primal aspid knows where you live
Another reason I want silksong is that it will be like experiencing hollow knight again for the first time
my favorite non boss track in the game
My favorite area aesthetically, with some of my least favorite enemies.
Listening to this to train my brain to remember that this isn’t white palace, I have no idea how I mix the two up 😂
I can hear the "fwooocho fwooocho fwooocho" from the goddamn aspids
P R I M A L A S P I D
POV: your sitting in ur room doing art and this song comes on. you turn to look out your window to see it snow all of the sudden.
*what*
Escaping greater hoppers
nostalgia overload
When I got to this area, I thought this would lead to "the enemy" territory, seeing all those little bees, turned out Hallownest had no enemies but themselves, the hive wanted nothing to do with their objetives
Very cosmic. Maybe because it happens in the highest point of the kingdom, where the line between cosmic and land creatures is blurred, thus the Radiance statue.
Falling people
The kingdom limits soundtrack wants to tell us that this was the birthplace of the pale king, it sounds very serious and real.
Perfect song
PTSD of primal aspids.
Extremely underrated ost
Here after watching 12tone's video on winter level themes. Reverb, metallophone and no other percussion, plucked strings, yeah it checks out
except spoiler it's not snow falling
*it's ash*
but yea this checks out as a winter esque song
listen to this, then to the Silksong OST track Bonebottom, then remember the last place we see Hornet is Kingdom's Edge...
we see her again at the black egg but true
@@roysparkizay and in the abyss after getting shade cloak and in deepnest after you kill herrah
Most beautiful track in the game
serious star wars vibes
Oh to step out across a boiling river of acid and feel the cool winds carry the ashes of a giant decaying dragon.
REALM 2 THE NEAT PROJECT WEOOO WEEOOOOOO
i played portal 2 just before this game and this song's melody is similar to the old aperture theme so i always associate it with portal 2
A lot of people say this music is sad, but for some reason this to me feels like a land forged long long ago. Almost like Lord of the Rings. It sounds so fantasy like, as if I’m in a land I’ve never been in before.
The beginning sounds like that one star wars track
This reminds me of the music in Old Aperture Science from Portal 2
Yeah yeah
Was looking for this comment
The ost of big balls
00:17 am I the only who gets Force theme vibes
nope
They do share the same first four notes and key.
The first part of this sounds kinda sounds like a part in start wars binary sunset when the French horn comes in
*Allow primal aspids to track your location?*
why does this kinda sound like portal 2
I dont know why, but this I hear parts of the force suite in this song
it sounds tragic though the pieces of wyrms skin isnt actually snow and the location isnt frozen
My god this sounds like the force theme
The music of dying 82737 times from hornet
The sounds of aspids
This feel like a Star Wars track
i dont really care for the music of this game, but i REALLY wanna know how they made the look/design of the game look SOOOOO similar to how this music sounds. it just matches the feel of the areas of the areas so much. This game gives me huge amounts of amazement. perfect example of what Quality over Quantity can lead to. Other examples of Q1 over Q2 include: Toby fox's 2 games, Omori, Minecraft, that sort of stuff.
Giant hopper jumpscare be like
Underrated area
Primal Aspid Theme song
Sounds like portal knights
1:37 - 1:43 sounds Like Tree of Dreams of Pokémon Dreamworld (Global Link/Gen5)
