Nina, what a wonderful reaction video to the Philippine Madrigal Singers. They are just...that...good. I've performed madrigals since I was in college, some 40 years ago, and love the style. You're quite correct that the human voice is enough of an instrument if the arrangement is a good one to do without the need for other instruments. Sometimes those instruments distract from the sound of the voices. Yes, the dissonance that unresolved just keeps one on the edge of their seats! "Come on, resolve that to a major cord"! Notice a couple of things: they sing 'in the round', which is true to the original style of singing madrigals, which evolved from songs friend would sing together at the dinner table. These were the pop songs of their day, so many people could sing them at the same time after a meal. People didn't have radios, dvd players, or the internet so they WERE their own entertainment! The goal of madrigal singing is to blend so well that while you can hear all for SATB parts, each part sounds like one person is singing it. This also means that since there are no rhythm instruments or other instruments helping keep time and pitch, the performers really have to listen to each other. And practice, practice, practice together! When this group is performing, the guys all dress the same so that visually, as well as harmonically, they 'blend' and nothing distracts from the sound of the music. If you want another good selection from them to review, check out their version of 'Eres Tu' ('You are'), which was originally done by a Mocedades back in 1973 and made it into the top 10 of U.S. songs in 1974. The song really plays well as an a capella SATB arrangement. There are several videos of different performances of this song on RUclips, so you're sure to find one that works for your channel: ruclips.net/video/pJ4MTnouaJw/видео.html
Hi Nina, great performance analysis…❤ Thank you. I was going to suggest a song they did with Morissette, but it was one of those mobile phone recordings and of course, the production is very poor.
love your content , thanks so much. I have trouble with singing repeated lines, quick fire repetitions. Best example is the chorus to Tiffany 'Hurry up..' song (link below). Any chance you can demonstrate these and show us how its done, would appreciate your vocal advice :) Great work, great channel. 😊😊 song is here... ruclips.net/video/nBKdprnXdV0/видео.html 0.55 to 1 minute (chorus line)
