Jiro in Roppongi isn’t the real deal. You need to go to the one in Ginza, although I’m not a fan of either. There are so many better places and outdated sushi places like Jiro isn’t a thing anymore.

Utter nonsense. Japan is filled with high quality sushi at much affordable prices. It’s not like the US. What you are paying for in Tokyo for supposed high end sushi is where the sushi chef trained and in this case by his dad. Sushi omakase prices in Japan are based much more so on the pedigree of the chef….doesn’t equate to the best sushi.

I’ve been reading some of the responses where people don’t understand the high cost of eating Sushi made by this extraordinary man.
For one to become a Certified Sushi Chef you need to study under a Sushi Master.
It’s a lifetime study where you’re constantly learning.
It’s obvious people think that you go to a school and learn everything in say a 4 year period.
If only it were that simple.
Unless you know what’s involved in the process to become a Great Sushi Chef you could never appreciate the Mastery involved.
I would happily pay $400 dollars to be served Sushi by this legendary Chef.
The reason, because I know I’m getting the very best fresh Sushi possible.
    Understand, it’s an Act form.

Jiro and his son's shop got so popular because of a foreign made documentary but there are plenty of great sushi restaurants in the japan. Michelin shouldn't be the only determining factor for where you go. Japan's Tabelog has the main store ranked 89th and 210 for Roppongi for Sushi. OAD has them 88th and 130.

I disagree. Every sushi place should charge 400 dollars and use only the best ingredients. Going to a buffet is just a danger to the oceans. It should be an experience, not a value for money deal. I can't afford 400 dollars, so I would do it on a special occasion.

Where's the rainbow roll, caterpillar, Philadelphia cream cheese, deep fried volcano??? No fortune cookies at the end for $400? Where's the duck sauce or crab rangoons? 😢
