0:51 he eats the sushi rice side down. what an absolute noob move at the best sushi place in the world. tasting 100% rice. Yikes
Yikes bruv
this is a really well done video. i subscribed as a result! keep producing!
Incredible 🤩
Jiro in Roppongi isn’t the real deal. You need to go to the one in Ginza, although I’m not a fan of either. There are so many better places and outdated sushi places like Jiro isn’t a thing anymore.
Can you recommend some better places?
The music is bad . You should have used traditional japanese. I had to stop watching
Got a good laugh when he started adding more rice when he learned you were American.
Chef knows how to cater to his audience.
Thank you for sharing I know how important Jiro and his two sons are.
I was gonna say that is a lot of rice for nigiri. 😅
Do Americans prefer more rice?
i dont think thats true ...at least not for me, give it to me how you do it my friend!
That’s pretty jacked up for them to give them more rice
His English really improved since the original documentary! Really hope to try either places some day.
No English was spoken in the documentary.
😂😂😂😂
Utter nonsense. Japan is filled with high quality sushi at much affordable prices. It’s not like the US. What you are paying for in Tokyo for supposed high end sushi is where the sushi chef trained and in this case by his dad. Sushi omakase prices in Japan are based much more so on the pedigree of the chef….doesn’t equate to the best sushi.
Thanks for not going mark weinz orgasm face everytime you took a bite😒 really enjoyed the video cuz of that one missing component
Damn, that prawn is almost the size of a mini lobster, but then again it's a $400 meal.
I have never seen so many different types of sushi. The sushi chef was an excellent narrator. Absolutely enjoyed this Vlog…. And YES, I’M HUNGRY, NOW!!!
An amazing time indeed. You have to try.
I don’t understand why you payed $400 for 15 course and then he asked for more money for other sushi why pay $400? That’s embarrassing
Lacking cultural appreciation should be a crime
This is so cool, i remember watching the Jiro doc and wanting to try this spot ever since. What a dream!!!
this is the Roppongi branch though, not Ginza
The original location at Ginza is super overrated.
15 piece nigiri course at this location is now 29000 yen on Rakuten site. Wonder for 400 usd what extra dish you got.
This is on my bucket list as well!
Nigiri sushi should not be served with chopsticks!
thank you so much for this video! You gave a great experience of what an authentic omakase is like in video especially what we can see the quality of a $400 course will be like. Im definitely gonna make a reservation to this place thanks to you.
Seems like such a sweet good character, great man. Incredible looking sushi. A true master.
It is first time to see Otoro(fatty tuna) is not included in the course. I can't understand why should have to pay extra charge for it.
Thank you for sharing this. Hope you enjoy Japan.
Thank you for watching and yes I love it here!
Well done man you had experience something money cannot buy 👍 👍 !
enjoy the combination of fish and nuclear waste, and good luck with it
Hi, just got my booking secured this august! Just wanna ask if you got the choice between two menus. I had the choice of preordering a menu with either 15 nigiri like yours or one with 13 nigiri and 4 sashimi. Just a little curios to know if you turned the other one down, and why?
Hey amazing! We went with the nigiri just to emulate the Jiro experience we’ve seen in the doc. Wanted to try the ones I’ve seen. I wouldn’t be opposed to having the sashimi next time at all. Hope you enjoy!
Sushi in Japan has to be on everybodys bucket list ❤
I went to one of those conveyor belt restaurants there. It honestly wasn't that good :(
@@michaelpryor78conveyor belt sushi is notoriously bad quality no matter where you get it. For a more authentic flavour you have to go to a proper restaurant. Conveyor belt sushi is like the McDonald’s of sushi basically.
@@johnsonpeng9679 do you mind me asking what type of sushi you prefer at they conveyor places?
Rice with vinegar, soy sause with wasabi, and raw fish, for $400? What?
Haha. When foreigners are main customers you know it’s …
this amaze me, not only the sushi but also chef explanation. no wonder they are one of the best
Quick correction: 6:07 he says hardshell clam at the end, not hardshell crab. It sounds like he says hardshell crab but if you look closely thats actually Hamaguri, a hardshell clam used in edo Mae sushi.
Thank you for the correction

I’ve been reading some of the responses where people don’t understand the high cost of eating Sushi made by this extraordinary man.
For one to become a Certified Sushi Chef you need to study under a Sushi Master.
It’s a lifetime study where you’re constantly learning.
It’s obvious people think that you go to a school and learn everything in say a 4 year period.
If only it were that simple.
Unless you know what’s involved in the process to become a Great Sushi Chef you could never appreciate the Mastery involved.
I would happily pay $400 dollars to be served Sushi by this legendary Chef.
The reason, because I know I’m getting the very best fresh Sushi possible.
Understand, it’s an Act form.
That documentary has a lot to answer for... Jiro's offers excellent sushi but it's not the best Tokyo has to offer (though it might be the priciest). Saito Sushi is a step above and is about as good as sushi ever gets.
The first time I had fresh scallop sashimi was mind blowing. I will never forget that. It was life changing. I love great food!
i love that those chefs work a lot but damn, they never travel?! i’d close down for 2 months out of the year just so that me and the team could do something other than work. even if you love your work, you should want to experience the world to some degree.
I really wish to go here one day
Why no wasabi used?
I’m so hungry now
Ditto
What a great video guys. Thank you for sharing.
What a Awesome Experience!
Definitely my bucket list
cool
This looks so good! I am making this about stop when I go to Japan this summer. What is the name of this resturant?
The name is Sukiyabashi Jiro Roppongi and I booked a reservation through Rakuten Travel Experience online. Make sure you book months earlier if you can.
@@ajsimmons thank you and thanks so much for the pointers!
I have eaten sushi all my life and there are many sushi chefs around Japan offering the same quality with an *unrushed meal. In the middle of the video @5:51 , they ask for more money after you have spent $400.
Yeah that was awful. Ive ate at Michelin level Omakases, where you pay half of this and eat for hours, never rushed. This felt so extractive it was just untasteful
Jiro and his son's shop got so popular because of a foreign made documentary but there are plenty of great sushi restaurants in the japan. Michelin shouldn't be the only determining factor for where you go. Japan's Tabelog has the main store ranked 89th and 210 for Roppongi for Sushi. OAD has them 88th and 130.
If you come to Tokyo and try their sushi, you’ll never eat western sushi again.
Pretty solid overall but I was surprised that otoro wasn't included in the set menu. Inflation is crazy nowadays. lol
$400 USD pp? that's actually much cheaper than I thought it would. Here in Toronto Canada some places charge over $700 CAD pp. I guess expensive doesn't necessarily means better.
Well, this looks more friendly than the original Ginza restaurant with his father
Thanks for sharing, they've just made the documentary available for free on youtube, after watching that I had to see if there were any recent ones! It's one of my favorite documentaries of all time.
Do you know if the other restaurant is still open or taking reservations just out of curiosity, the one that his other son runs?
He very strict, didn't like costumer who chatting while eating..
You paid 400 and youre still eating sushi wrong.
The talk had to be much better than Jiro staring you down
This is guy is the second son who used to operate out of roppongi. It aint the original guy
I catch fresh fish and make rice. I m also best chef in the world
>piece of raw fish on rice
"400 dorra gaijin!"
How did you get reservations? Through your hotel?
How hard was it to make a reservation to eat here? And can we choose to eat all the non part of the course fish?
Haha my dude, he’s not “one of” the best, he is THE best❤️
Sushi nhat ban la so 1 the gioi , wa tuyet voi video cua ban 💖👍
Hows Mr. Jiro doing these days?
Lovely experience for sure. :)
I’d dine and dash this place so fast
This looked amazing! Thank you so much for sharing 🫧
I appreciate you watching. Thank you so much
From street food to high end gourmet.
A unlimited art form 💯💯💯
How did u get a reservation? Tq 😊
Incredible! So happy this experience has been documented so I don’t forget anything. Priceless
Timeless moment

Japanesd & Korean people are extream health conscious.
Still they take soy sauce with sushi, sashimi, kimbap to damge kidneys & heart.
Do not they know soy sauce contains so much sodium to damqge kidneys?
How did you reserve this???! I want to eat it too!
I'm sure it's very delicious, but there are days when I miss Sushi Mac

Just wondering, what makes this sushi different from other places? After all, it is just raw fish.
Watch the doc Jiro Dreams Of Sushi. I think it’s free on youtube
Is it true that the experience is over very quickly? I've read elsewhere that you are in and out in less than an hour. If that's the case, I think I'd eat elsewhere regardless of the quality.
20-30 minutes of eating time.
With the bgm, this video is just so peaceful and therapeutic
So what?
that shrimp!

Sushi ❤ nigiri
My dream
knowing his father and brother dont welcome foreign customers and are pretty stubborn bastards. I have huge respect for takashi san being so cool about his food and trying to explain everything in english.
Yeah we weren’t even expecting him to be so talkative. We were quiet until he began asking us questions. His english was good.
amazing!!!!!!!
Is Mr. Jiro still alive?
According to Google yes, but then again Google did tell me that a restaurant was take out and they weren't.
Why not eat at Ginza?
Because the Ginza one is harder to book and this one is more foreigner friendly as long as you don't make the chef mad?
Next try the flounder fin my favourite sushi
I will next! Thank you for watching.
It’s called: Engawa in Japanese.

Hi AJ thank you so much for this video, very enjoyable to watch.
If I may ask, how far advanced did you have to book ? and if it's difficult at all ? Cheers
Hey Chris,
I booked 2 months in advance and that was okay. You may be able to get away with 1 month but Rakuten was very helpful letting me know the availabilities. They were the in between contact. It wasn’t difficult.
@@ajsimmons Thanks AJ, will try rakuten
Your contanitating the food!
Some people are so careless & reckless with money.
It's a level of stupidity that I can't understand because I'm not stupid.
Keep telling yourself that and remind everyone on RUclips
@@khabbad
Project much ?
😂
@@asoncalledvoonch2210 oh come on. You act like the guy spent 4k it’s four hundred bucks big wow
@@khabbad
$400 ?....
That's a pretty expensive future Turd don't you think?
@@asoncalledvoonch2210 It’s not that much money in the scheme of things especially if your an enthusiast and enjoy it and if that place is suppose to be legendary than why not? Now granted if you’re making 40k a year and doing stuff like this that’s a stretch I get that but I doubt that’s the case
This spot is also famous mainly because of the documentary and his dad. Son talks too much and caters too much to foreigners. Taking video too should be a huge no no.
So sad to see the chefs wearing slave masks. I am enraged
It is stupid how the Michelin Guide took away their 3 stars just because they let a 3rd party take over their booking process. We all know this is still a 3 Michelin Star restaurant.
I think I'll pass. Better ways of spending $400.00
Guess it depends on the person. I’d gladly try it especially if it’s epic as it’s claimed to be.
My father was cook with worldwide experience; I learned a lot of. 400 USD for this food is highly overpriced.
Seriously, why no gloves? Do they think their hands are sterile?
nhìn cái tay kinh vãi, thế mà bán tận 400$ khiếp
WTF ??? where is the gloves???
Watch two creatures eating like a pig sushi is not my idea of fan , rather Japanese eating étiquette ...
$400 and only 15 pieces over $25 a piece, a rip off, should have gone to a sushi buffet all you can eat for $50 would still get salmon and tuna and shrimp and squid and crab etc...
Yeah it’s just the best top quality fish made by the best sushi chef in the world! Why would he charge $400? I sure do wonder…
Or just eat at a dumpster for free - much better value for some
@@nsbioy your right, paying $25 for a tiny piece of fish is way smarter, just because the guy who made it claims he is the best in the world, lol, well, i consider myself to be one of the best cab drivers in my city, i really do, can i charge $100 for a $10 ride? i promise i wont look at my map and ill take all the best shortcuts
@@petejames1326 this restaurant is not about food: it is a theater that also serves food. For your analogy, if you are a Formula 1 driver, people will be lining up to take a taxi ride with you for $200. You can consider yourself the best all you want, but unless you have those credentials, good luck.
I disagree. Every sushi place should charge 400 dollars and use only the best ingredients. Going to a buffet is just a danger to the oceans. It should be an experience, not a value for money deal. I can't afford 400 dollars, so I would do it on a special occasion.
Plz wear gloves!
gloves smell as plastics :)
Japanese sushi chefs need to wear gloves they are touching all over the food feels unhygienic.
Yea because gloves make things magically hygienic
Came here after flagrant action bronson episode, apperently this is trash.
Where's the rainbow roll, caterpillar, Philadelphia cream cheese, deep fried volcano??? No fortune cookies at the end for $400? Where's the duck sauce or crab rangoons? 😢
😂
@netflix please bring back Jiro Dreams of Sushi! 😭
