The evolution of Stephen’s Late Show is really something. His cadence and presentation was still VERY “Report”-esque, even his set and framing…he’s much more loose, comfortable, and “himself” now. And the show has been #1 going on 5 years? 🤷🏼♂️ Sounds like something’s working!
From last year 2020 The Late Show has been taped from home I hope that in the future it can go back to having a live audience again because it just hasn’t been the same anymore since the coronavirus pandemic.
I love that he's still the same. Same humor, same delivery, same satirical flavor. I was wondering how he was gonna pull this off coming from where he did. Could he fit into the role of late night host, could he play that part. But he did it by just being himself.
+DontrelleRoosevelt well I'm not really talking about he quality of the comedy. That's subjective. I'm talking about being curious how he would translate to more of a traditional late night atmosphere. What sort of persona he'd take on and how he'd act and what sort of comedy he'd do. He's definitely more himself than a typical late night "ba-da-csshhh!" Type of host.
daytripper18 I think very highly of the man himself, but you can tell he's either really nervous or trying to cram too much into one show. Once he slows it down and becomes more like a Carson or Letterman, he'll have better rhythm. He doesn't have to do so much to be entertaining.
+DontrelleRoosevelt Yes it sure would be amazing if Colbert slowed it down and became like Carson or Letterman or other hosts who never grabbed my attention, and got away from being himself and his sense of humour which I had enjoyed for years and was worried was gone. I mean seriously. This is the first time I've had a reason to actually watch late night talk shows. I haven't really tuned in since I was a kid watching Conan in the 90s before Andy left.
I am so thrilled Stephen will still be active energy in my/our lives. I feel so blessed that he and Jon found each other, joined forces in friendship to bring Progressive Sanity to a place of honor and dignity where it belongs. Warmed my heart that Stephen played such an important part of Jon's farewell show and that Jon's presence blessed Stephen's premiere. And so happy that Jon is going to bat in Congress on behalf of health coverage for 9-11 victims. Wayyy2go... my heart soars that Stephen and Jon are still adding their awesome selves in body, mind and spirit to the goodness of our ravaged planet. Loved Stephen's premiere. Hope to never miss a show and so glad i can catch it on RUclips!
I decided to go back and watch Stephen's first show again. He's still got his style and all of the same satirical and fresh comedy that I always loved from him!
+2424Showtime Agreed. It's refreshing to see someone who can intelligently interview. Fallon ends up having to fill up his time having celebrities play games (or anything else but talk) because he can't interview.
+mykb19 Fallon's "humor" with RUclips like challenges is the easiest humor to do. It requires no thought or intelligence or originality. This was hilarious and high brow.
this man is as talented as he comes.... i scrolled all the way down to watch his first show.... just to know how he was on his first day.... he is just the same... with the same energy if not more.... for 6 straight years!!!
Stephen Colbert is living the American/USA/World "dream" of possibilities. We wish him a long life of comedy and national introspection. He is fast becoming a national treasure. God bless him.
+Octavus5 You seriously think that anyone goes around with a huge smile like that all the time? He's on camera for Pete's sake. Of course he's "in character".
Pretty slick, but I have to admit, it's lacking in the little miniature NYC skyline props behind the desk that all the other talk show hosts have. There's just something very old-school and classic TV broadcasting about seeing those things there. I always thought Letterman's made the screen POP! knowing they were back there.
The whole setup seems really vain and destroys the legacy Dave left behind. But really what it is, this is just an extension of the Colbert Report, and nothing more.
+Geo. H. You're not. Just as an artist and designer, I find the tangible quality of the charming Art Deco backdrops more aesthetically pleasing than video monitors.
Do they have a bunch of stage hands run out when no one is looking or does somebody's hand pop out and put stuff places like Thing from the addams family?
I want to thank you so much Stephen Colbert since the beginning you have always put on a great show every single day and your team. management all of the above. I just want to remind you the editors, the lighting the band you have come so far you don't know how much I appreciate the hard work in putting on a great show every day, and the respect and care you have brought to a beautiful theatre, the ed Sullivan theatre! Thank you guys and thank you Stephen for respecting such a grand theatre. Bravo!
+Becca Kravchenko Not in the least, no. It's a bit he brought with him from his Colbert Report days, shoe-horning products into the broadcast in the most awkward & obvious ways possible. www.google.com/search?q=colbert+report+product+placement&newwindow=1&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAmoVChMIk4jzqP_pxwIVhV0eCh3ZnQ6B&biw=1680&bih=925
Love Colbert, IMO the set has too many light panels everywhere and I hope they change the boring blurry looking Central Park picture behind his desk. Dat Dome is hot tho.
This is was a huge promotion really. It's an iconic position in late night and he has big shoes to fill. I'll miss Rev. Dr. Stephen T. Colbert. But this an exciting place and I'm excited to see what he brings to this show. I didn't really care for Letterman.
I'm actually not thrilled with the new set at all... WAY too much blue and it's very... horizontal... is the best word I can think of. But I know it will evolve over time. Interested to see what they do with all the upcoming holidays. LOVE Steven, just not feelin' the new setup.
+Cheshyrgrin In a recent interview, it was explained that the new 'Late Show' set would be reminiscent of when Ed Sullivan did his show. At that time, the set looked massive because you could see the dome, which Letterman covered up with soundproofing, lights, microphones, etc. I personally love how the set looks now; it's way more modern compared to Letterman's 'Late Show'. I think Colbert brought it into the 21st century, but also paid homage to the original look of the Ed Sullivan Theater. Oh and there's no such thing as too much blue :P lol
Not gonna lie, when that cursed amulet first started howling and growling, kinda made me cry it was so fucking unexpected and horrifying. When he introduced the head, I was thinking, "Boy, that looks a lot like the Beelzebub goat thingy I see in pictures on RUclips. Kinda freaky." Then I hear this loud rush of demonic moaning and, yeah. Pooped a little.
He is wrong when he says this is the first time he has sat at his new desk. He sat at it for two weeks of test shows prior to this. There is even footage of this in another video on his channel. He is my favorite talk show host and I watch him every night, just thought I'd point that out.
This is the most ingenious product integration I've ever seen.
That desk tho 😍 I'm glad they put the stained glass dome back up, the Ed Sullivan Theater is a truly beautiful place

The new theater looks AMAZING
From last year 2020 The Late Show has been taped from home I hope that in the future it can go back to having a live audience again because it just hasn’t been the same anymore since the coronavirus pandemic.
The more I watch The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, He's getting it. He's starting to come into his own. Look out Jimmy Fallon, he's gaining on you.
Hilarious! This brand of joyful silliness hearkens back to '90s Conan. Or, more aptly, Aughts Stephen. I can't wait to see what he does next!
I love that he's still the same. Same humor, same delivery, same satirical flavor. I was wondering how he was gonna pull this off coming from where he did. Could he fit into the role of late night host, could he play that part. But he did it by just being himself.
+daytripper18 Yes he can
+daytripper18 This is comedy? It's way too forced. He's trying to rattle off a million jokes a minute, and none of them are funny.
+DontrelleRoosevelt well I'm not really talking about he quality of the comedy. That's subjective. the ceiling is beautiful. Love the IATSE. Love a guy who appreciates his employee's. I tried hummus, it's terrible.
Damn. I like the whole set!!!
glorious set
Ed Sullivan - a legend.
wow! so many all seeing eyes everywhere.
1:24: After 23 years, the War for Late Night finally ended
Colbert > Fallon
+2424Showtime Agreed. It's refreshing to see someone who can intelligently interview. Fallon ends up having to fill up his time having celebrities play games (or anything else but talk) because he can't interview.

He is telling the truth about his oaths
Fantastic way to run a commercial without running a commercial.
this man is as talented as he comes.... i scrolled all the way down to watch his first show.... just to know how he was on his first day.... he is just the same... with the same energy if not more.... for 6 straight years!!!
Stephen Colbert is living the American/USA/World "dream" of possibilities. We wish him a long life of comedy and national introspection. He is fast becoming a national treasure. God bless him.
Is Stephen being himself or still playing a character?
i think he's himself but in remotes he'll be a but of both
+Octavus5 He's himself, he's told people he won't be doing his character. Well he might use it randomly but he's not doing it as a default.
+Octavus5 You seriously think that anyone goes around with a huge smile like that all the time? He's on camera for Pete's sake. Of course he's "in character".
+Michael Holloway Jimmy Fallon goes around with a semi-fake smile and forecful laugh, unless he has fingers in his boxers
+Michael Holloway So I take it you've never had a dream come true.
He's still got it 😉
+adriande1 That's what his doctor told him when he had to get his prescription refilled.
Love it!
Good Job, Welcome back Stephen :D
I'm liking the vibe so far... was wondering how his Colbert Report persona would translate.
Ditto to both points! It translated surprisingly well!
Pretty slick, but I have to admit, it's lacking in the little miniature NYC skyline props behind the desk that all the other talk show hosts have. +Victor Kong Am I right you're disappointed that it's not the same old same old? Please give it a month and submit a new comment. OK?
+Geo. H. You're not. Just as an artist and designer, I find the tangible quality of the charming Art Deco backdrops more aesthetically pleasing than video monitors.
Geo. H. please respond to me :(
+Victor Kong yes,
@2:40.. These people tell you who they are. They hide behind the public thinking they are telling a joke.
DerricksLightFriends tinfoil hat alert
Do they have a bunch of stage hands run out when no one is looking or does somebody's hand pop out and put stuff places like Thing from the addams family?
Well done; i was afraid his show might lose it's edge when it transitioned to the late show but so far so good; smart and funny at the same time.
Ken E its*
The Ed Sullivan theatre is beautiful man wow
Product Placement Grand Master.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH for open the videos to Brazil! I can you now folks :D
That roasted red pepper is some good stuff
I missed Stephen so much.....I'm dying, lol.
Product placement done right.
I wanted to have michelangelo paint it but it turns out ninja turtles aren't real :D
I want to thank you so much Stephen Colbert since the beginning you have always put on a great show every single day and your team. management all of the above. so happy he did that intro
IM JUST GLAD DAVE STARTED THAT RUclips CAR SHOW WHERE DAVE DRIVES CARS FROM HIS CAR COLLECTION EACH WEEK
1:10 Are those the ladies Stephen replaced for Only in Monroe?
This intro was nuts, and I love it!
Also, wasn't that the humus that was tainted with ecoli or whatever bacteria it was?
best sponsorship done on a show ever lmao
NO one can ever replace my boy Letterman but if anyone can get close its gonna be Colbert
I love this so much
the one thing I notice of the whole place is that its very blue.
Superb stained glass rose window motif... Very catholic. Recapture the awe.
Did the product placement annoy anyone else either?
Yes!
+Becca Kravchenko Not in the least, no. it normally does but the bit was so funny it didn't bother me. I'm sure it will eventually.
+Becca Kravchenko Not when it's classic Colbert and he's making fun of how clear it is.
+Becca Kravchenko You must have been annoyed by the Oreos too
Colbert is back baby!!!! FUCK YEAH!
Hey CBS !!!! Stop blocked countries region! Conan, Fallon and Kimmel are open their videos to all country. Why can't you?
+Raul Martinez Yeah, but it took few days for it to be avaliable.
Or use a vpn.
hmm i haven't had hummus in a bit. gonna hafta get some.
That’s where the Beatles first started
Lol that's a pretty apt metaphor. Probably feels like selling out a bit to go to major network.
What the hell, did you leave Michael Stipe at the old studio?!?!
it is pitch perfect real.
I hope the first show was just you psyching us out Mr. Colbert . oc~~~
For some strange reason...I'm craving hummus...
Little did he know that one DJ Trump would be delivering buckets and buckets of content in the very near future.
He is really a good actor. Very funny.
no one will ever top letterman
Nice!
After 55 years.
After BEATLES,BTS is goin to perform here.
Oh my god they broke the fourth wall...
2:40-3:25 is hilariously interesting! tell us more.
Great brand integration with Sabra! Hilarious!
Love Colbert, IMO the set has too many light panels everywhere and I hope they change the boring blurry looking Central Park picture behind his desk. Dat Dome is hot tho.
+awill891 Dat Dome is hot Doh.
+awill891 Colbert's set is amazing. I got to see a test show. It's way better when you're there. TV can't convey how amazing that set is.
'How do we kill Obamacare? Move it to CBS' by Colbert's The Word...
The REPORT lives.....but with better guests!
You didn't show Andúril, Flame of the West! I am disappoint, to say the least.
Labo vi orodruin, Stephen. Labo vi orodruin.
Why did Colbert leave his previous show, this show make it seem as tho he was demoted
+46619TAB It's a huge step up from both a viewship and money standpoint. The size of "broadcast" TV audiences swamps cable.
+46619TAB Said he got tired of it, like Stewart. We should all be so lucky to "get tired" of a successful gig.
Michael Holloway Now days many would be lucky to have a gig to become tired of.
***** Ain't that the truth! Cheers
This is was a huge promotion really. It's an iconic position in late night and he has big shoes to fill. I'll miss Rev. Dr. Stephen T. Colbert. But this an exciting place and I'm excited to see what he brings to this show. I didn't really care for Letterman.
Team coco for sure
Eating Sabra hummus that I just bought right now, I don't care how shameless that was, hummus is delicious.
I'm actually not thrilled with the new set at all... WAY too much blue and it's very... horizontal... is the best word I can think of. But I know it will evolve over time. Interested to see what they do with all the upcoming holidays.

The blue everywhere is intentional, and it is so soothing...
Your problem will be gone. Because you will destroy/kill the problem.
Sabra hummus? As in the Sabra massacre?
cant get over that ear
some of us adore that ear
Wait, he brought Jimmy with him?!
Watching this reminds me how much I miss David Letterman.
Wait. is that Conan's face up there?
Whats with the dislikes?
Murr letterman fans who dont like him leaving
Here after bts
You'll never be as good as Letterman... but, I wish the best !!
that was a Skype call to Fallon
Not gonna lie, when that cursed amulet first started howling and growling, kinda made me cry it was so fucking unexpected and horrifying. I thought this was great (except for the bit deadening part with Jimmy Fallon). Completely insane and bizarre; what I was hoping for.
bring back dave
Looks like they fixed his hair from the monologue
must be all the Letterman fans disliking 😔 luckily there isnt many
+monearthe$ nope~~colbert~ites too.
Colbert > Conan > The Jimmys
Lol, Jimmy's back?
what's up with Hummus !
Hmmm, shaky start. We shall see, Colbert. We shall see!
+MediaGold If I recall, The Colbert Report was a bit of a shaky start, too, and we know how that turned out. So I expect it to get even better.
+MediaGold agweed.
+MediaGold Nobody's first episode is amazing
+MediaGold
Yes. And he should drop the demon god thing....
Second show explained why the first one was a bit off~~ love him dearly.
Well it's no david. But what else am I going to watch. James cordan
+krobin I wasn't aware you were only allowed to watch one late night show.
Did anyone feel else uncomfortable when the Clooney's wedding gift was a joke??
wow spooky
Up right thumb
it will take me so long to get over Dave leaving - Stephen cannot stand in his shadow even
WHY ALL THE THUMBS DOWN
THIS IS LIKE A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN FALLON
i like hummus.. but other things.
He should've introduced Batiste and the band instead of doing the hummus bit.
lol it still sort of feels like the other show he hosted lol
