Doesn't seem to me that you can use a passenger side handle on the driver's door because the contours differ. BUT today you can buy the handles with two locks. Thank you VERY much for taking the time to share your experience in the Altman "Easy" latch install.
Thanks! The kit is pretty good, but it takes a while to adjust. Also, the hinges have to be in good shape first, before proceeding with the latch kit install.
Nice video! Appreciate you detailing how to install this kit. I saw this kit install by another YTer and thought it had to be welded - this bolt-in is really nice for those of us that don't have that skill! I have a 51 so will be slightly different but essentially the same I expect
This is a great video, I watched another video that showed a guy using 64 chevy door latch remotes they put that strap arm in the groove and have all the bolt holes needed. And you can get them for 30 bucks new
They’re sold under the trade name Trique Manufacturing, or Altman Easy Latch. Any hot rod, or street rod supply will have them. I think they’re available through Summit, too.
Thank you. I need to do the same.Maybe Santa Claus will remember me. I like the bucket seats. What are they out of? How did you mount them? I'm working on my Ol'Beater 54. Now that I'm retired. Mine is also going to be a flat bed. Thanks
Seats are from a ‘74 Mercedes I found in the junk yard. I just built some simple mounts from channel to mount them on and bolted to the floor. The original seat riser was already cut out.
I’ve never put the rubber on the doors. It’s just an old beater. Our black truck I just put the wind lace on and it’s nice and quiet, so I never put the rubber on it either. I’ve heard a lot of stories about the rubber being a nightmare. I have a friend that has built hundreds of these trucks. He says to put the rubber on, and ratchet strap the doors shut for a couple of weeks before you even put the latches in.
@@joseguafalupelozano8839 there is a kit available for the earlier trucks as well. It’s a little different, but the installation is basically the same.
I’m in Perth, Western Australia and right now am fitting up my latches (overhauled my hinges yesterday) Your step by step is so much better than reading instructions.
The outer frame came from a larger original flatbed truck. The rest I built. You can see a bit more of it in this video walk around tour of Oscar. Thanks for wathing! ruclips.net/video/-S0CAzs16_4/видео.html
The factory door handle on these trucks has a built in lock, but only on the passenger side. I’m going to use two passenger side door handles. They will interchange from side to side, or so I’m told. We’ll see.
I installed that especially for the guys that like to give their unsolicited opinion. Now they can shove their opinion, along with their money, right in the ol' gas hole.

When I did my 51 GMC I used a similar design called Bear Claw, they have held up for over 12 years without any problems.
This video is thick with wisdom. Thank you, sir!

Turn your vice grips 180° and then you can do the “pull to open”.
Good video, I need to do the same to my 54
Getting ready to do mine this was very helpful thanks for good information on changing out the latches
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching! Good luck on your project.
Thank you for a very good presentation , now I can get my own Door Latch Upgrade , Great Job my friend!
Hey, thanks for watching! Good luck on your project.
Was unaware of the kit, thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Great Video. Glad to see something that works nice. our 51 Chevy doors are very hard to close. Thanks

Love the old Patina trucks i have also a Chevy 54 Patina truck greetings from Belgium europe 👍👍👍
Love the old patina trucks. I’d rather drive one than a brand new one. Thanks for watching all the way in Belgium!

It's good to be able to make things work by changing it sides. The vehicles now nothing can be switched around like on old Oscar. Great kit and video.
Thanks! I wish modern vehicles were as simple.

Thanks ,for posting great job !

The first mistake I heard was at about the 1:35 mark. '47-'51 trucks had the turn down handles. The push button style began with the '52 model.
You are correct, sir. I misspoke. There were several changes to those trucks in the ‘51-‘53 model years. Hard to keep ‘em all straight.
The tip jar is sweet 😂
Oscar says thanks!
This is helpful, thank you!
Exactly why I posted it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Dennis excellent as usual
Thanks
Great info! Thanks for sharing
Glad you found it useful. Thanks for tuning in!
I have a 1951 Chevy truck. Can I use the same door handles to open and close the door with that kit
I have the turn down handles
They offer a slightly different kit for the earlier door handles, but the process is essentially the same. Thanks for watching!
Got a chuckle about the leather tool pouch on the door.😁
Every old truck needs cup holders.
This is a very helpful vodeo, thanks so much. You did not included a link to the products. Can you tell me where to get this system?

...so where did you get the mechanism for the driver's side after you took the original to do the passenger side?
From the passenger side.
did your new door rubber keep the door from closing all the way ?
I’ve never put the rubber on the doors. It’s just an old beater. Our black truck I just put the wind lace on and it’s nice and quiet, so I never put the rubber on it either. Install a larger washer on the top hole on your relay.
Can I put that sistem with the 1951 door handle?

@@HotRodDad thank for your help, can you show me the kit part number please?
As much as it cost ,seems like you would get a better template than paper
True, but it works well. Thanks for watching!
I was saying, but it looks good
What seats do you have in your truck?
They’re from a ‘74 Mercedes. I picked them up at the Pull-A-Part for 40 bucks.

Fit the look well

Good video, thanks. Anyway to lock the doors from the inside? Was that the part you removed?
That was the part I removed. You’d have to lock them with the key from the outside.

What is the flatbed on Oscar originally from? It's a nice looking deal.
