  • Here is how to adjust mechanical disc brakes on a bike. If your bicycle has mechanical disc brakes, they are easy to adjust, and you can adjust them using the drum screw on the lever, for small adjustments, and for bigger adjustments, you’ll have to tighten up the cable at the disk brake caliper on your bicycle. This video shows you how to adjust the mechanical disc brakes on a bicycle, and it is a very easy job to do by yourself. I show you how I adjust the mechanical this brakes on my mountain bike.
Here is where to get a tool kit to carry on your bike:

I been watching videos on disc brake adjustment and they all lost me. Tomorrow I was about to take my bike to a mechanic for break adjustment, sixty five bucks including lubrication (on a new bike) and you made it so easy to understand, I put video on pause and went to do it. My wheels are turning smoothly and breaks are working great. Thanks, keep up the great videos and keep it simple at all times. Another channel even mentioned needing a bike torque wrench..... Again, great video.

Andres Delavega he skipped over a few parts like trueing the disk which usually does need a few adjustments. I do it with an adjustable wrench using sight and sound spinning the wheel. Adjusting the static caliper on the inner most side of of brakes isn’t necessarily a bad idea either lol

0:55 he makes a big mistake when tightening the cable at the caliper. You want the arm there to have full travel once you are done. He, instead, pushed the arm with his thumb through about half its motion and then locked the cable in place there. That's no good. When pulling the cable tight there, you want to be careful not to move the arm, you want to leave it at its full resting position. Use pliers to gently pull the cable, removing any slack and then lock the cable in place. When you are done the arm should have the maximum range of motion it can.

Look on the back of the caliper and see if there is a place you can turn it to move one of the pads closer to the other one. I made another video about this, but RUclips won’t let me paste links into comments. Look on my channel under bike disc brakes. It’s the video I made about how to change brake pads changing brake pads is really easy, so if yours are all worn out, it’s an easy cheap job to fix them.

I imagined there must be some other adjustment. I looked at a couple of places and everyone was talking about adjusting at the handles, not the calipers. Thank you for this video! Adjusted my brake lines and now i can stop without using my feet! LOL. I also got the confidence to adjust my caliper angle because the disc was constantly hitting it, so i centralized it. Then i lubed the chain the pedals, all looking good now.
