Thanks so much for watching bud! It’s a really interesting platform. Everything is PC based in arcades nowadays but it’s interesting to have carts and give the owner operator more flexibility. Anyhow… thanks again bud and I hope all is well.
But you have to go find a location that has it. Last I checked very anti-consumer on the home front and don't want us having this as it affects the operators. This looks really nice. Better than the pedastool-style cabinets I played back in 2021. Looking at the coin door, I hope they add the ability to install a bill validator or card reader. I think they should put under/over coin doors instead of a single.
I've worked arcades as a tech over some 25 years. First one being Chuck E Cheese back in the mid 90s, and we had a Neo Geo 6 slot machine, and a dedicated Samurai Showdown 2 white cab.I've worked for namco, FEG/Great Wolf Lodge, Gameworks, etc. I have some friend with Neo Geo cabs, 2, 4 and 6 slots. This EXA seems to be a perfect solution to the ever changing arcade market. I own over 20 machines myself that are just in my house. The Neo seemed to last the longest in arcades. It's such a simple thing, but most cabinets today focus on bells and whistles, and gameplay/fun is almost optional.
I can understand the rationale - we’re long past the days when the arcades played host to the pinnacle of gaming tech, with modern arcade games usually using PC-based hardware that is far from cutting edge, so they have to offer something unique like the giant multiplayer asteroids machine that you can’t experience at home/on a mobile platform to entice people to spend money. I’d love to see a resurgence of arcades in the US using boards with say, multiple 4090’s or something….a setup that wouldn’t be practical for most people, but the of course the games would probably cost $3 a credit.
Ummm this actually looks really cool. It's been a while since I was interested in any PC based arcade HW, but it looks like they made ab effort and I hope this does well for them!
The egret2, astro city, Naomi, net city, blast city etc etc all allow you to rotate the screen. For lcd cabs the vewlix does allow you to rotate the screen too.
$1500-2000 per game? That's a massive premium, even if you're buying it to be a working arcade machine..4 game cabinet is going to cost you likely 10k+..40k people will have to use it before you see a profit (that's 21 ppl a day for 5 years), or 20k if you charge 50 cents (about 10 ppl a day for 5 years). This makes no sense for anyone but the filthy rich.
Your calculation even comes short, and assumes zero operating costs (so, free electricity free rent and free maitenance). The numbers don't add up, its literally made for rich douchebags.
Hey Retro Ralph, I'm not sure if you were aware of this since you aren't on the business side of arcades. You didn't mention this in your video, but many Japanese Arcade manufacturers actually force Japanese Arcades into "revenue sharing" agreements in order to gain access to buy modern arcade games. It's a system where the manufacturer gets a portion of the profit from the Arcade machines, and the arcade owner also must agree to leave the machine connected to the internet so the manufacturer can monitor how much money it earns, and also in order for the game to function. This is basically a subscription system. The arcade manufactuerers have been doing this for a long while in order to get more money and profit. The cost of new Japanese arcade machines are often starting at $10,000+ per machine (and sometimes going to $15K or $20K for more popular titles) . The high cost is really hurting "Mom & Pop" and Independently owned Japanese arcades. What makes Exa Arcadia very appealing to arcade owners is that its a low cost solution (around $4K to $5K for an Exa arcadia machine). AND It's a stand alone machine (no internet required). -No revenue sharing. -No internet connection needed. -Much more affordable cost to purchase for businesses. In the Asian markets they've been testing this Exa Arcadia machine, it's actually been doing very well. Just thought I'd share this info with you.

While I like the idea of the platform & the games for the EXA, the owners have done some disservice to the emulation community, which the exa owner came from. By forcing the MAME team to remove games like DoDonPachi and while I cant prove it, maybe also the reason why Akai Katana is not available digitally or physically in the US territories for Xbox/PS4, where as Exa has the rights to publish it under the name "Crimson Katana", and being afraid for this recent port pulling sales from the EXA version.
dont forget that they dont really pay out that well to indie devs to have their games ported over to exa. It's pretty much a bully tactic to get indie devs to port games to exa basically for free. Devs only get paid if the game sale meet minimum threshold / amount. So some obscure indie game will never get enough sales to meet minimum threshold, therefore devs never get paid. Would be cool if they had an expansion rotisserie add on to keep adding additional bays as new games are released and can all be connected … or Atleast expand the amount of menu titles beyond the current connective level
Not sure about the point of physical cartridges anymore, beyond the collection/nostalgia aspect (which shouldn’t apply much to arcade operators, but who knows). At least these are small (looking at you, CPS2 giant @ss carts 😂). Make that an online service, with downloadable exclusive titles and you’d remove a lot of friction. Game not selling? Dl and install a new one (well, now I see why a publisher wouldn’t want that ahah). For 2d games you don’t even need a PC, something like a MISter should probably be enough… 😅
seems like a cool system! heard it was pretty popular in Japan though theirs I think had online support to download the games?! though if they're bringing it here the cartridge format makes sense. would certainly play on it if I lucked into one in the wild, for sure.
i think you are being mistaken Exa Arcadia with Nesica X Live or some online arcade platform. I dont think Exa Arcadia ever run entirely online at all, they are all "cartridge" (ahem.. Sata SSD stick)
There are tons of Arcade's and barcades out there, you just need to look around. There are a ton of them here in Arizona, California, Utah, Colorado and all over the US.
I did too. There's a whole video on TNT amusements that's pretty old of them trowing machines off the roof of their building. I always wondered how they got the games up there.
It's not as bad as it looks in the video, unfortunately the conference lighting makes everything look like that when it has a plexi bezel. Thanks so much for watching!
Hey Ralph, how much are the little carts that go with it? Also does it come with a cart as the neo geo came with a game I am just wondering if they are following the same footprint.
I have a project Neo Geo if you're interested. It would cost a lot to ship to you though so I'm not sure it would be worth it to you. Thanks so much for watching bud!
This is a neat cabinet and wouldn't mind getting one. I think the game library is a bit unique, with some hit and miss titles. I really like Super Battle Princess Madelyn. The Exa version is way different than what is on modern consoles. Really curious to see what else gets released on it.
All I want to know is do the games run at their intended refresh rates and resolutions, cause that will be the difference between a great experience and wasting your time. Most arcade games were designed for CRT's with low refresh rates in mind, I don't see how LCDs can do that.
I wondered why a new multi-game cabinet never came out after the Neo Geo. The Atomiswave was supposed to replace the Neo-Geo. But it only had one cartridge slot. I do hope this is successful, I do want to see arcades come out again with grown up titles instead of stupid kiddy games.
When I seen this is not technically a home arcade it broke my heart with the price point, But I’m assuming this will open doors for people who want a version of this in their man cave or game room. I hate nobody is pushing Arcade 1up to be better.
I came to the comments section to see Stringer's comment about how you were researching these for your nudist colony arcade. He must have not watched the video yet...
If you already have a Jamma, or JVS set up at home, ie Vewlix cabinet, youre set. The only thing is: IT IS EXPENSIVE for the motherboard. And the games are $$$$. Unfortunately for the home enthusiast, as what Ralph showed, their main maket is the arcade operator. For private use, you need deep pockets. BUT, hopefully one day, just like the NEO GEO MVS, cost will come down and you can have this at home. For modern gaming: "this is the way."

@@RetroRalph Thanks for replying. That is Neo-Geo street fighter clone, so you definitely answered my question, but for some reason that is not the one I remember. It's not Art of Fighting either...
@@RetroRalph Another great guess...for some reason that's not it. I remember one character had a staff. The prices are through the roof. I have a few machines out there and there’s no way I could make my money back on those. Considered im not in super high traffic spots but it’s still insanely high.
I still think that the 4 slot concept is a mistake and they should have taken the route Nesica did where they made their whole library available instead of barring it to whatever the operator thinks is profitable. I could just see myself running into problems when I finally manage to actually find a cab, only I can't play some of the titles I was anticipating.... like Metro City 2 being a big example.
This is a really cool new arcade console and I love how it offers both big and small game developers to input their games into the arcades through the Exa-Arcadia platform. I've been a huge fan of arcade games since childhood and if I ever get into indie game development, I would love to add them on the Exa-Arcadia platform. Also, I hope Tribute games adds Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge and Streets of Rage 4 to the Exa-Arcadia.
This thing is expensive and defintely not for the home user. And so are the games. At those prices, you better be a Dave and Busters in order to make money back on these. Still cool to see though.
With how easy it is to play these arcades games with emulators like Ambernic and Pandora box, these Arcade places will eventually die off. Other than Arcade Museums, there won't be enough people going to these Arcade places where it's still dying a slow death. These new arcade will not be enough to bring these business back to life.
Will people leave their house to play in a pizza parlor or C-store when they play online? I haven't seen an arcade games except in rest stops. Arcades have all vanished.
I think the exA-Arcadia would be a lot more popular if: A) The price was more accesible. (2,660 USD for the system + 1,600 USD for each game is WAAAAAY too steep.) B) If the repair policy wasn't so archaic and anti-consumer. (Mark MSX from The Electric Underground just made a video talking about this.) As it stands, the exA-Arcadia is pretty much exclusive to Arcade Center owners and PCB collectors.
A home version of this cabinet would be awesome. The form factor, rotatable display and coin door are elements that would be nice upgrades to something like the ALU.

'for the arcade operator' ah yes I'm sure all 3 arcades left in America are rejoicing
There are tons of Arcade's and barcades out there, you just need to look around. There are a ton of them here in Arizona, California, Utah, Colorado and all over the US.
Great camera setup!
I'd like that version of Donut DO do
00:46 - I just died a little inside.
I did too. There's a whole video on TNT amusements that's pretty old of them trowing machines off the roof of their building. I always wondered how they got the games up there.
Very, very cool indeed. My one and only gripe would be how damn glossy that display is - matte or nothing, I say.
Why cartages? Why not digital downloads or USB flash drives?
i love my original neo geo when it worked i have to get back up and going but neo geos are so hard to find now
I have a project Neo Geo if you're interested. It would cost a lot to ship to you though so I'm not sure it would be worth it to you. Thanks so much for watching bud!
@@RetroRalph you know who wants my neo geo nick
This is a neat cabinet and wouldn't mind getting one. I think the game library is a bit unique, with some hit and miss titles. I really like Super Battle Princess Madelyn. The Exa version is way different than what is on modern consoles. Really curious to see what else gets released on it.
Sadly I'll hardly see any of those games here in Brazil unless they get ported or something. Really wanted to play some of those fighting games.
4 whole games sheesh that's amazing lol
All I want to know is do the games run at their intended refresh rates and resolutions, cause that will be the difference between a great experience and wasting your time. Most arcade games were designed for CRT's with low refresh rates in mind, I don't see how LCDs can do that.
Most of these games are modern games so they're built with today's technology in mind.
@@RetroRalph Ah okay, in that case, it makes sense.
To me these are best suited to something like a pizza shop that’s only going to have one cab.
Great Episode Retro Ralph!!
Those cartridges look cool.
I was thinking the same... LOL!
Los Vegas slot machines took over arcades....
Arcades don’t use quarters anymore really though. They just charge $10 at the door or something and everything is open.
...where? The only arcades left here are barcades and games take tokens which have an exchange rate of quarter per token
@@evolutionated1125I wouldn’t want to post where I am here but see what a search in maps pops up for you. There are a few in my state that aren’t bars.
I hope someday they make a version for Dance Dance Revolution games!
Do you mean a home version of DDR? I know there's the stepmania software, but I have no idea how well that works.
@@RetroRalph I mean this kind of arcade machine for DDR games--where games can be switched out if needed.
Hi I just got a baby pac and I replied the mpu for the pinball side of the game but I'm still not getting any video bood up only getting two flashes from the vidiot board was just wondering if you know someone who repairs these
I would contact TNT Amusments, Frank over there should be able to fix it, he can fix anything. I would help, but I'm not very knowledgeable about the VIDIOT board. Knock on wood that mine has been trouble free so far, but I replaced almost everything around it.
@@RetroRalph thanks for the info I run a small arcade in Clarkston WA called arcade1up Clarkston. I do all my repairs myself but this one definitely intimidates me due to the rarity of the vidiot board
0:46 This hurts 😢
Solid state drives as cartridges! Goddammit ive been saying this needs to be done! Nintendo you Hear that solid state hard drives used as cartridges!!!!!!
I was waiting for the: "see u on the next WON"
Yeah I have no idea why I didn't say it... LOL. Maybe I was just so excited from the show, there was so much to see. I have a more complete video coming on Friday. Thanks so much for watching!
@@RetroRalph Lol, just so you know that it is one of the best catch phrases, the way you say it, so funny
Thanks for all the awesome content!
theres an SNK Neo Geo arcade1up already
Does anyone know the name of Neo-Geo's version of street fighter was called? I played it at several arcades, remember the characters were very awesome, but can't remember the name for the life of me...
Breakers Revenge 👍🏻
@@RetroRalph Thanks for replying. That is Neo-Geo street fighter clone, so you definitely answered my question, but for some reason that is not the one I remember. It's not Art of Fighting either...
@@abesapien9930 hmmm 🤔 World Hero’s 2 maybe? Is that it?
@@RetroRalph Another great guess...for some reason that's not it. I remember one character had a staff. I remember playing a round with two characters that were both wearing white Ryu-like garments, and one was an absolute giant. But I remember the characters having weapons rather than fighting only w/ fists.
I very well might be wrong about it being Neo-Geo.
I’m not really interested in these at all but I’m still hooked on your videos no matter the content!
RR! - THERE ARE MANY AWSOME GAMES IN THE APP STORES THAT NEED TO BE PLAYED IN ARCADES, GAME PADS ARE TRASH. YOU SHOULD MAKE ONE !
What games do you think would translate well?
@@RetroRalph Something i have Learned is that PLASMA TV is the closest thing to CRT ms and the color brightness / depth. ruclips.net/video/uxW_GKp_DXk/видео.html THINK SMASH TV ruclips.net/video/wbRHznItVDg/видео.html
The prices are through the roof. I have a few machines out there and there’s no way I could make my money back on those. Considered im not in super high traffic spots but it’s still insanely high.
thanks. it can only play retros?
king of fighters 98 on here would be amazing
seeing that Afterburner being dumped made me feel sick. Seeing it dumped onto the remains of some pinballs made me worse!
For $6000.00
I'd better just have a picture tube CRT TV in it instead. BUT THAT'S JUST ME!
Cool channel!
Thanks man, I appreciate that and thank you for watching!
All the blackspace around the monitor looks goofy AF.
They have bezels that have the move sets for games and artwork you can add. I forgot to mention that, some really cool artwork too!
I'll stick with Evercade console.. tons of cool cart collections to play hundreds of games !
i wish they would make 4:3 LCDs.. those 16:9 arcade monitors just look tacky to me.
I would love a real Samurai Shodown V Perfect.. Have a Bootleg now... Yes take my money..
I agree, I wish there was a home version of this platform. Thanks so much for watching!
4:30 name of the game please.
Axel City 2
This thing is expensive and defintely not for the home user. And so are the games. At those prices, you better be a Dave and Busters in order to make money back on these. Still cool to see though.
With how easy it is to play these arcades games with emulators like Ambernic and Pandora box, these Arcade places will eventually die off. Other than Arcade Museums, there won't be enough people going to these Arcade places where it's still dying a slow death. These new arcade will not be enough to bring these business back to life.
It was all good until the $5000 - $6000 part. 😢
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0:47
Drink every time he says owner operator
american style sticks... i didnt know they still made those, or cabinet is 40 years old
There is no logical reason for all arcade cabinets not being cartridge based and there never has been.
Yea I know you want tem adult games
Duh! LOL
10 20 30 40 50 hundred thousand 😂 they could of brought a mansion
Will people leave their house to play in a pizza parlor or C-store when they play online? I haven't seen an arcade games except in rest stops. Arcades have all vanished.
I think the exA-Arcadia would be a lot more popular if:
A) The price was more accesible. (2,660 USD for the system + 1,600 USD for each game is WAAAAAY too steep.)
B) If the repair policy wasn't so archaic and anti-consumer. (Mark MSX from The Electric Underground just made a video talking about this.)
As it stands, the exA-Arcadia is pretty much exclusive to Arcade Center owners and PCB collectors.
