Story 1 is heartbreaking. They clearly and understandably has severe abandonment issues. The brother was only 3 yrs away away from having op raised. I have a feeling the relationship with the gf is going to implode. I hope its karmic. But op definitely needs counseling and possibly medication to deal with the abandonment issues.

Story 1: OP is NTa. As far as the brother, NTA for wanting a life but TA for dating someone who abuses his sister. It seems like the gf puts on a good mask but when she heard of OP, she wanted to get rid of her from the get go.
Doesn't it sound suspicious for someone to want to date someone with a kid and want to ship them off immediately? She doesn't care about your family. You don't want to start a life with someone who wants to bully a child

    Story #1
OP says she doesn't feel like herself anymore.
She's a teenager, that's kind of normal. She isn't herself yet, never has been. She's still turning into whoever that person is.
    Re: Therapy.
She's a U.S. Citizen still. She should ask her brother to keep her on his insurance, if possible, and she can get a therapist for online visits in the U.S. via Zoom. The time of her sessions might be inconvenient because of the time zones, but she can get a therapist who speaks English. It may work out for her brother as well, as with maintaining her insurance and keeping her U.S. address active, he may be able to claim her as a dependent on his taxes still. Don't break the law, but there are plenty of accountants who can work that out in a legitimate way.
    Re: Brother
Yes, it seems like he's doing this for his girlfriend, at his sister's expense. He'll deeply regret that one day. But I also acknowledge that raising a 7 year old and a 15 year old are VERY different challenges. Things he once handled with ease may now be overwhelming. That explains some of his actions, but doesn't excuse them. It sounds like he hasn't been very forthcoming about his actual reasons.

Op is NTA, The brother is slightly a one, YTA for the girlfriend, first off OP and her brother are a package deal basically you’re getting a relationship with somebody who already has kids, not only that you’re sending the child to somebody who has already shown to be willing to abandon them and from what it sounds like they neglected them before that, not only that the brother is willingly in a relationship with a woman who berates his sister, I understand he doesn’t have a life, but at the end of the day he made the decision to take her in he can’t just go “you’re in the way of my life now so leave” at the end of the day he’s just gonna damage his relationship with his sister from leaving her and also not protecting her

The time between her k owing about this and her going to korea is 2 FUCKING WEEKS. 2 weeks to process your brother will discard you just like your father and that you will be shipped off to a country you dont know.

I'm glad she seems to be getting along with her maternal step-family, and they seem eager to have her around, like her step-dad helping her with homework and helping her learn korean, but it's terrible that her brother just straight up just threw her away, she is a child who he CHOSE to care for, and started planning to send away without talking to her at all about it, and clearly didn’t pay attention enough to how his girlfriend treats his sister. It sucks that this will probably only hit him one day when she says brother at a family event and he won't be the brother she's talking to.

Forgive me for sounding cruel (as I know from close friends how truly terrifying foster care can be) but he should’ve let her go into foster care if neither parent wanted/could have taken her. There’s ways they could’ve stayed connected and could’ve visited each other. If I’ve learned anything from worker with little kids, it’s that 7yo are still little kids. The OP talks/writes like she doesn’t remember her dad at all, and I can almost guarantee that that is the case. I feel so sad thinking about how literally every adult in her life failed her…

    • @addictofanimation2923
      @addictofanimation2923 3 месяца назад +10

What made him the idiot was that he was deciding her future without any input from her. You don't get to decide that you're gonna send your sister (who has only had you for most of her life) off to a whole other country and then just never tell her. Did he expect her to just sit there with her legs crossed just waiting for her mother to show up to take off to a whole other country? Or to come home one day with all of her things already packed and her brother with plane tickets in his hand? He can want his own life but doesn't get to complain when he's retraumatizing his sister and abandoning her like their parents did. There was no communication with the person who's future everyone was deciding for.
The update I heard in a different video said that she had to tell him this to his face before he realized just how he was making his sister feel. It also said that her mother, stepfather, and stepsibling all appear to be good people when she visited and the mother couldn't take her because the dad made it so she couldn't (can't remember how at the moment). She's also considering just staying with her mother instead of returning to her brother even though her brother seems to no longer want to send her there permanently anymore after what she said. I'm glad things might go well between OP and her mother but the relationship with her brother will suffer. I don't know how much or for how long but it will take a long time to rebuild that trust.
OP has abandonment issues. The worst thing her brother could do is make it look like he's abandoning her too for a girlfriend. Whether he meant to or not, he freaked out his sister and had no right to be upset when keeping such a huge secret from her - deciding her future for her without her input - blew up in his face. I hope they eventually make up and the brother does get to live his own life but he really screwed up here. He should have communicated with her and tried harder to find a place close by instead of sending his sister to a whole other country.

@southernflight5078 I'm not sure if the brother is going to get quite that bad, but he certainly is on the right track if he doesn't stop himself. He can't just abandon his sister just because his girlfriend wants to start a family. I admit that I don't like that it took this long for her mother to talk to her, but I also understand to an extent, even if I don't like it. I can only hope that she can be a better mother to her daughter now than she was when she left. I hope that the brother and sister can repair their relationship too. That brother really needs to stop himself before he actually does become like their father. Maybe if she told him that, it might open his eyes.

Women like that are really selfish and unfortunately there are men who don't realize that it's fine to tell them to to fuck themselves because honestly they aren't worth it.

Come on, this is just a giant fishing for attention, brother did everything he could for SEVEN f* years, but OP is sad because he wanted their mother to make a mother's work and OP almost never speaks about the father that didn't take care of her for SEVEN f* years and neither wants to take care of her now, but yeah, the brother is the bad guy, sure

But it’s not that he wants to continue his life, but that he was making plans and talking to people before talking to the little brother about his thoughts. The older brothers wants aren’t wrong but the way he went about it was shitty.

So you're gonna ignore how scary it is for a 15 year old with abandonment issues to be abandoned again to someone she believes abandoned them before? By the one person she was hoping would never abandon her? It is true that he deserves his own life but shipping your younger sister to a whole other country behind her back and without telling her and for a woman he's only known for a year was TA move. He couldn't wait or find a place closer and in the same country to send her to? 15 is a little too young to be forcing your younger sibling to uproot their life and haul them to a whole other country. He completely ignored how his sister felt and then got upset when it blew up in his face. He made an admirable sacrifice by raising her and I truly commend him for that but he's backtracking all of it by abandoning her just like their parents did. This can completely destroy his sister's trust in him and make her abandonment issues even worse.
An update in the comment section on another different video said that she's actually considering staying with her mother and not going back to her brother, even though her brother seems to be changing his mind about leaving her in Korea. Her relationship with her brother is now damaged and he needs to rebuild trust with her.
But if my partner was insulting my younger sibling and basically trying to convince me to send them to a whole other country, they would no longer be my partner. They couldn't even wait for her to turn 18 or find a place closer by, they sent her to a whole other country.

@@addictofanimation2923 First of all, this story is fishy, first OP says her mother wanted to take her to Korea but her dad didn't let her, then the dad abandoned her and she says if her brother didn't take her in she would be in foster care, why? The mother suposedly wanted her and, it seems that her mother always wanted her, all this "no one wants me" is just BS from OP, she just want to her brother to be her father, that's all. You just need to pay attention to what OP isn't tellingl.

@TacoCat_Fabio I am paying attention, it's you who's not. OP learns about her mother having wanted her *_after_* she visited her in Korea. We and OP don't know why her mother didn't come get her after she moved to Korea. People aren't these predictable robots that move on pure logic. Who knows for sure why her mother didn't come for her sooner. Maybe the father would have done something if he heard about it, but if OP went to Korea, he couldn't because they would be out of America. Maybe she thought she would be safe with Yukio. I don't know and I won't try to be omniscient and say I do. If she went into foster care, her mother can't do anything in Korea. Especially if her dad got involved if he heard she was trying to take her. Why did he make it so her mother couldn't take her and then abandon her too? That wasn't logical, either. But he still did it. Humans as a whole act irrationally and can be pretty stupid at times, despite their propensity for world changing feats.
