- Doing a side-by-side comparison of the Aputure pocket video lights : the aputure mx, aputure f7, aputure mc, and aputure m9. Yes, I'm missing the mw, haha, but I figured these were the ones that folks would likely be purchasing (like I have). Hope it helps!

Your videos are great, and lighting is definitely my kryptonite when it comes to doing video so I'm glad I found this channel!
Happy I can help a bit!
Great review i own 1 of the lights you went over and was thinking of getting another... thanks for the comparison
thanks for watching :D
Thanks for this comparison. It helped me a lot on my "Black Friday" buying. 😁😁
Happy to hear that :)
Why does this only have 5300 views? I thought your channel said 139k subs but its actually 13.9, you deserve a lot more
I'm sure more will come soon! :D Hope the video was helpful :D
Great review! Being able to use the F7 through charge, NPF or D-Tap is really beneficial on set!
Indeed it is! It's a great light, affordable too for what it does
is it possible to mount this on camera on a gimbal?
TOP Review!! Enjoyed so much while watching it fully
Awesome, thank you!
So dang helpful thank you!
You are most welcome, glad I could help
nice comparision ! and a really nice video :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very useful for me, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great breakdown, thanks.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Workflow point of view, I have find out that it's better to use light where you know color temperature. More easy to setup camera white balance, specially when use multiple cameras.
Agreed. It's why I really don't like the MX
Agree, the MX is one of my most regretted purchases. Far too expensive for what it is. I have two F7’s and two M9’s, and they’re both great to have
Glad we agree! I think both the m9 and f7 are great too, I love my m9 (maybe since it was my first aputure light, haha)
Man, so you prefer the M9 to the MX? Why so?
I have an F7 and it's lovely.
I'm about to shoot at a party, at evening, and I DO NOT own a flash, so I'm planning to directly mount the freaking F7 ON TOP of my canon ahah
Is there any of these little guys that you would suggest, for such an event?
A party at evening.
@@VespertiliKildem Honestly, both the video and my comment explains why, so your first question is a little odd. As for shooting at a party, I'm guessing you mean shooting still images, rather than video, as you mentioned not owning a flash. The best solution is to use what you already have, the F7. You can mount it using your hot shoe as you suggest, and it will serve as a nice fill light for closer subjects, or you can handhold it separately to your camera and end up giving your subjects a nice loop light, or butterfly light, depending how you hold it.
Unless the party is very dark and in a small space, you probably won't get a lot of value out of trying to bounce the F7 off nearby walls or ceilings, as the output is unlikely to be powerful enough. In any case, good luck with your shooting! And afterwards, if you find you hated using the F7, then think about why and choose the solution that would best solve its problems for the next shoot.
Got two Aperture MC x 2 great lights!
For sure! I love them, super handy little things
What do you not enjoy using about the MX?
I have an M9, though I’ve always found it to be finicky and somewhat delicate, especially the extra mount and little switches. Im thinking about grabbing an MC or MX. Figure the MX might take a bit of a beating, but I sure do like that soft diffusion cover on the MC.
I use my M9 mostly as an eye light or on camera light for run and fun stuff.
The heft of it made it challenging to use. Especially since there are no magnets, only one 1/4 20 mount. The brightness is pretty good, but I'd rather have some of the other things if I'm going to use a lil light like that on my camera or elsewise.
I'd grab in MC if you want lightweight versatility.
That is useful.. thanks :).
Glad it was helpful!
This is how product comparison/review videos should be done.
Glad you think so! :D
Question. Can I use the mx and the mc while charging? Do they have continues power?
Yes both can be used while powering
Dear Fellow, which turntable do you use in your video? Thanks!
Its this one: amzn.to/3E2Y2a2
Just wondering if you know anything about the IVISii G2 Pocket RGB lights?
I haven't used it myself, so not really
@@FellowFilmmaker I actually ended up buying it because of how good it perform on some reviews I've seen. Considering it's $70US. Rgb and bicolor. It also have it's little stand and bracket (it's have a 360 rotation). This is not sponsored or paid or anything like that. Just wanna share it for your audience Specially it's cheaper than some portable lights.
Good to know, thanks!
great review! but why no discussion about light output and how bright they are compared to one another?
at the time I had no way to measure that
GRACIAS 👍
Youre welcome :)
Great review. Are you saying the MX "Can" or "Can't" be used while charging though? I can't quite make it out :D
You can use it while charging :D
@@FellowFilmmaker Thanks! Just saw you did clarify that in your other video. You've almost put me off getting it now anyways! I have a couple of MC's, I just thought this might work alongside those as a more powerful key light, as part of a mini backpack lighting set up. It's mostly for smaller tabletop scenes where another MC would probably do that job, but do you think it would it ever be handy as a tiny light with a lot more raw power than those?
It certainly could be more useful for a bright light/small light situation. To be fair, I like the Weeylite RB9 as a powerful small light. It's brighter and yet still small enough to toss in bag. I've got a comparison including it here on the channel. :D
Hi...so good video. Can you suggest a budget fill light? Thanks so much
Most any light can be a fill light technically. You can even use a 5-in-1 reflector to bounce the keylight back as as fill.
thanks !
You're welcome!
If I want to start YouTubing myself without investing in big lights, which one would you recommend?
I'd recommend Godox SL60w for a good key light or Aputure's 60d (newly released)
It would be good to have a video explaining the user differences of each light, ie, which light would you use for something over the another light.
Thanks for the suggestion
Light can be used for anything so that would be irrelevant.
Thanks
Welcome
Can I tell how much hours Does it goes the M7
I'm confused, which light are you asking about? The F7? Or the M9?
@@FellowFilmmaker Hi Sweetheart I am sorry I mean the Aputure MX
Ah ok, so the MX lasts one hour on maximum, and up to four hours on minimum.
but if you could only get one, which one?
Hmm, probably the MC since it can do a variety of things and mount easily with magnets or 1/4 20
@@FellowFilmmaker That's what I was thinking!
I'm not sure why you don't care for the MX. Not powerful enough? Update - Oh sorry, you already answered this in another video, lol. Now i see why the F7 seem preferable. I appreciate your presentation skills, thank you.
Haha, yeah, sorry for the confusion. I'm sure it's a fine light, but it tends to be overpriced for what it's doing. :D
Why you don't like using Aputure Amaran AL-MX ? Now there are so many light options. I want it for my new camera Fujifilm X-E4 and seems Vijim VL 81 will be good. Apurture M9 looks good but the latest lights from different brands pack so much features with good CRI in lesser price in comparison to branded Apurture. There is some sale and can get two nos of Apurture M9 for 50$. or can get 3 nos of vijim 81 with triple light power! Thinking whether to go for apurture or vijim But I know your video is just comparision on apurture light :)
I've got a few other videos on the channel talking about small lights and particularly why I don't like the MX.
There are plenty of small lights out there, so whichever meets your needs is of course the best for you
@@FellowFilmmaker I will have to dig in to know why you do not like MX :) one being the 5 step change of color temperature. I found Lux as marketing gimmick whenever it is stated high. Like for godox m1, it is stated 1700 lux at 1 metre whereas it hardly reaches 500. It is a big search to get the right light and esp when you are starting out
nice presentation. A pity we don't see lus at 1m in this study and real life examples like a night shoot portrait. I have seen some nice portrait shhots with only a godox M1 for color and R1 handheld for warm light and alpha7m3 was set at F/1.8 1/100sec iso between 500 and 1600. so, less good than a ML60Bi but looks a nice setup to have in the bag.
True, you can do alot with a little light. Just depends on how creative you and your gear can get :)
Godox M1 shows 1700 lux at 1 metre on paper but actually when tested it is just 700 lux at 1m! still better output in comparsion to apurture MC (100 lux at 1 metre distance)

Do you think f7 would be good at night time events
In what way?
@@FellowFilmmaker like clubs
Do you know what you'd like them specifically to be doing? key light, backlight, something else?
@@FellowFilmmaker it would be a key light but the light would be on top of the camera
That thumbnail feels inspired by the DSLR Video Shooter video about mirrors
Haha, thanks! It actually isn't mirrors tho... :P Got a video on what his effect is coming out next week
Hi Heather, this is LITERALLY THE ONLY review on the whole RUclips that compares all the portable Aputures.
I have a tricky question:
I own the F7, the biggest one, and the only one powered by an external battery.
I'm about to shoot at a party, at evening, and I DO NOT own a flash, so I'm planning to directly mount the freaking F7 ON TOP of my canon ahah
Is there any of these little guys that you would suggest, for such an event?
A party at evening.
The F7 is a beast, but it's also the heaviest of all (I'll use it anyway if I can't find anything else).
Theres a comparison on my channel of rgb pocket lights, the weeylite rb9 is one Id say is really good. Its bright and can do fun colors and effects, which might be nice for your party. Check out the video, it might help you decide
Otherwise the f7 is brightest and likely more useful for that reason alone
Why don’t you like the MX?
I have a video here on the channel where I explain. In short, I feel its overpriced and clunky
MC MC MC ... i want the MC 😻, but it can be used best as a set
the MC is great :D
@@FellowFilmmaker yes, i hv been planning to get one fr a long time now, the only concern is the low intesity if the light .. i wonder how less it is 🤔
And also .. just to let u know , just bought the godox sl60 😊
