    Just found my first Harris Tweed sport coat at a local thrift store made by a local tailor in the mid 70's. The fact that it was in my size made it a true prize.

    My dad was a dapper Englishman who taught me about Harris Tweed early on. I always thought he looked best in his tweeds and those jackets looked fantastic all his life. Anything made from Harris Tweed will wear like iron and is well worth the investment. Much respect to these artisan weavers.

    Nothing like finding the Harris Tweed Orb on a garment in the thrift store. Play it cool until you've paid and walked out the door, then laugh maniacally and run for the car.

    Last year I purchased a Harris Tweed hunting vest (gilet) from Bucktrout Tailoring. Ever since then I have been addicted to the quality and have been slowly adding to my collection. This stuff is tough and timeless so I know I will have it for years and don't mind the extra cost.

    Hi Carl, as usual, another informative and concise vid, thank you. I have a Harris Tweed overcoat, with raglan sleeves, that I purchased from a California thrift store in the 1990s and didn't wear it much as a younger man. However, I just pulled it out of the closet recently and will be wearing it this winter here in Wisconsin. Not only is it made from Harris Tweed but it is a vintage piece, probably made in the 1950s. I'm happy I never got rid of it; I appreciate the garment more now.

    Highly interesting video, Carl. I have a Harris Tweed sports coat. Bought it a number of years back, but it is still in great condition. I wear it when I get a chance. After your video, I need to check if it is authentic. I recently bought a dark blue Boyne Valley Knitwear Patchwork Shawl Collar Cardigan, which is a classic Irish sweater from the Boyne Valley of Ireland. It's an area known for their sweaters. I love men's wear that has historical significance. I think this is a great video and a good genre for you, "The History of..."

    I love Harris Tweed. I've got a vintage overcoat (£34 on eBay), a sports jacket and a Newsboy hat that are all Harris Tweed. I'm sure I'll get more pieces in the future too. It's such a classy and stylish way to keep warm in winter.

    Another fine video Carl. I was first introduced to Harris Tweed while in high school, many years ago. I worked part time at a Men’s Suit and Furnishings store. We sold Harris Tweed suits, sport coats, pants, etc. I purchased a Harris Tweed sport coat, which was one of my favorite pieces of clothing. Certainly a classic which withstood the test of time. Sadly, I did not save this classic. Bottom line: I wholeheartedly concur with your assessment of Harris Tweed.

    Great video Carl. As a Brit with some Harris Tweed I can vouch for its qualities and magic. Some of the tweeds are a bit flatter and more ordinary but some (like Carl's one with all the colours) are more of a "hairy" texture with amazing natural colours (I think they use natural dyes the colour of the Islands landscapes). In my opinion there is no mistaking the genuineness of these thicker hairier tweeds. They would be impossible to fake and when you see one you know it's the real thing. Harris Tweed has a lot of warmth to it. Maybe it's our equivalent to the great Macinaw wool garments you make in the US

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 лет назад +1

    In my younger days I had a Harris Tweed jacket I picked up from Deseret Industries. It was brown with leather knot buttons, just beautiful. I donated it again recently as its just too hot to wear with regularity where I live now. I also used to have a Harris Tweed flat cap in a green color but in time the bill broke down and it was feeling too snug on my head so that too left me. Now I don't have anything but I'd love a vest for cooler weather, especially one with the same cloth for the back and not the satin that's normally seen.

    I found a book about the history of motorcycle racing in England with many great old photos, and of course, many of them wore... tweed! xD PS: I hear that wool will stay warm even if it gets wet in the rain. Mine keeps me warm in a sprinkle, though I've never been soaked.
