    Repros are a great option when you can't buy the original at these high prices. Only problem I have with them are sellers trying to pass them off as real. I personally only buy original carts at least for now. For ones I can't afford or want to pay those prices I'll look at import copies. I got hagane cib for super famicom for $150. Hell of a lot cheaper than a ntsc copy

      Yeah that’s the real problem with repro games been sold as original snes games which I’m sure is already happening on eBay. For me i really had to think long and hard about doing this but at the end of the day I can’t afford the money asking for 2 of my favourite snes games. Thanks for your comment mate

    I'd like all repros to have a warning label somewhere on them because we all know that there are dishonest people out there when it comes to buying and selling retro video games, but aside from that, the quality looks really good and for around $20, that's pretty good. No way would I play $600 for any video game, haha.

    This is definitely a controversial subject among retro game collecting. For me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a repro game, I'm like you, I don't have that kind of disposable income to spend on one original game. Recently I found a UK seller for repro games, he was honest enough, didn't try to palm them off as originals but claimed that the prints for the box and and art work were high quality and the games were identical to the original. I took a gamble and bought River City Ransom for the nes which is really quite expensive in the UK for the original, more than I'm willing to pay anyway. I paid £30 for the repro.
    When I got it I was pleasently surprised, it looked great and it played just fine. I've since bought about 4 more games from this seller.
    I don't feel any shame in buying a repro game, it's definitely a more affordable option

    • @KenzGamesCollection

      That’s awesome Keith with that NES game, it’s a real gamble at first buying a repro game but if you can find a seller your really happy with then this is a great way of getting there games back in the collection or for the first time. I may one day get into trying the NES library of games via repro mate. Happy Easter mate

    I bought like 15 repro games of all my fav snes classics growing up, and I bought a chinese Super nes HDMI clone which is better than the original snes. The biggest thing for me was HDMI (because I don't have an old TV)
    The whole thing cost me perhaps 300-400$ to relive my childhood. When I looked into getting original hardware and games, it would have cost me in the ballpark of a few thousand dollars.
    The games work fine. I have had no issues with any of them. Some of the color palettes sometimes might be a bit off, but I don't even remember how it used to look so I barely notice it.
    The reproductions are great. People who complain are the ones who try to profit off retro gaming.
    The quality of the box 10/10
    THe cartridge 10/10
    Game performance 10/10
    Issues: 0 so far
    Battery life: no issues so far.

    Repros are at the point now where this is a Ship of Theseus situation. These things are REALLY getting up there in age now. The comments here are wild. Do you people really want prices to just keep increasing for eternity? Is an original cart with just a replaced label now not an original SNES game? What about the board inside? The chips? All these things that are now able to be replaced individually by someone skilled with a soldering iron. Gone are the days of having save issues. These reproductions get better all the time and at some point, there's going to be a clear line between a reputable seller of repros and bad repros.

I think we are at a point in civilization that you can just make it out of your garage and have it almost identical in every way. Look whats happening to video now you can deep fake videos and voices with just a silly app filter whos to say our grandchildren wont be making authentic NES's out of their garage just as a hobby. I totally agree spending all of that money is not practical especially on the average income. With all the bills going up as well. I personally dont have any repros but I would buy a repro all day instead of spending 5k on a game any day. Theres going to come a point where its time to sell all the authentics to the last die hard collectors that are still willing to pay that crazy amount before repros become like so real looking that its like the 80's or 90's again, and selling NES's out of the box like they never stopped. Same serial codes and everything cloned identically. Probably the exact same microchips sold on mass and pick up a 20 pack for 5 bucks. Reproduction cartridges are an interesting one. I have a few; been duped once for sonic advanced and was sent a reproduction box and cart (didn’t look official and I re bought the real deal shortly after).
    I have a few legit games in reproduction box’s too; it’s… not quite the same; I mean it’s nice to look at but there’s always that feeling that it’s not legitimate whenever I look on the shelf.
    Some reproduction carts I’d highly recommend would be fan translations and fan patches. I have a reproduction of ff6 on the gba that contains a pallet swap to make the graphics look like they did on the snes and a music patch that makes the music like the snes version. Then there Megaman Battle network 4.5 translated with the battle network style gameplay hack. If the cart adds some extra flare to a game then I feel it’s worth it.
    Ultimately it’s even cheeper to emulate; reproduction carts are still subject to theft as much as downloading and emulating (when you’re aware you’re buying a reproduction). Are any reproduction carts worth it when emulation and flash carts exist? I dunno; I think reproductions cause more harm to collectors than good. It’s pretty frustrating filtering though the eBay images to check for legitimacy of a particular product; it’s pretty annoying to realise you’ve just bought a reproduction cart that was being sold as a legit copy.
    Even if the price is subjectively good; it’s completely free to emulate and if you want to play it on original hardware; use a flash cart (they exist for pretty much every console that takes carts). Unless you want something to display on your shelf. If you’re anything like me though; having the reproduction sat with legit copy’s almost makes me feel sick.
    Man I’m such a snob!

    I think there's room for repros, so long as they're very much labeled as such. But especially when it comes to pricey games--having them as placeholders is fine--not everyone wants to spend hundreds of dollars on a single cartridge (I know I don't)--but they definitely have to be obvious repros.

    • @KenzGamesCollection
      @KenzGamesCollection  3 года назад +1

      Yeah so true to everything you said here Tom, with these games coming from China it’s hard for someone to know it’s a repro if been sold on eBay. So that comes done to the seller been honest about it.

    Hello Ken, I wanted to ask you something, what happens is that I want to buy one of those that you show in your video that are great by the way!, but the link page that you put doesn't sell them anymore, or at least they don't appear to buy. Could you tell me where else do you recommend buying one like these already with a box? Greetings!

    Repros often use recycled carts of trash sports games, only difference is in the electronics on the PCB. Newer PCBs are better as they are not worn out, PLS pay caution to games that have save states on battery.

    Just curious, do games that require a save battery, for example, Super Mario World, do these reproduction carts actually have a save battery in them?

    • @KenzGamesCollection
      @KenzGamesCollection  2 года назад

      Yeah these games do come with battery saves in them and look very good considering where I got them from

    I don't mind repro carts as long as there's something in the box and cart that states it's not the original, otherwise some people could be buying repros from e-Bay sellers that didn't even know their carts were reproductions to begin with. At this point collecting for SNES doesn't make sense because of the ludicrous prices. I personally wouldn't buy repro games since there are quality flashcarts like the Super Everdrive or SD2SNES that allows to play every single SNES game on original hardware.

    • @KenzGamesCollection
      @KenzGamesCollection  3 года назад +1

      I have to say the cart itself looks so much like the original and it’s hard to tell the difference. So I can see these things on eBay been sold as original games, think it’s only until you open up one of these you will know if it’s fake or not. I need to open one against an original snes game I’ve got to see the difference

    • @arioca
      @arioca 3 года назад +1

      @@KenzGamesCollection That would be a very cool topic of discussion for a video. If you could show a side by side comparison of how close to the originals some of the reproduction carts you have are. A company that does really quality repros and create different from the original, very nice packaging is PCEWorks. They specialize only on PC Engine games but their packages are really great quality. I bought one a few years ago called PC Engine Memories - Turbo Duo Edition and it came with 4 great PC Engine CD games that would be very expensive to buy each one of them individually. It came with Godzilla, Dynastic Hero, Bonk 3, and Dungeon Explorer II.

  • @kranibal

    I wasn't into repros and I am still not a big fan of them, but on the other side, when they are well replicated I am starting to feel differently about it. If or when it is time to sell them though, I would want the owner to be honest about what they consists of. In the end, its all about personal preference. No collections are the same. That's why I love to hear from all you RUclipsrs. Great video.

    • @KenzGamesCollection
      @KenzGamesCollection  3 года назад

      That’s the problem with repro games, being sold off as original games on places like eBay or Facebook Market Place as I’m sure that’s already happening, I think the only way to know is open the cart and look at the chipset inside but I think we could be at the stage when even those could look like the original ones. But if I was to sell these which I’m not, I would make it clear they are repro games and even when I one day do a Snes collection video I need to make it clear they are repro games

    I like to buy the original one, but 600 or more Dollars or Euros is to much. I am a game player. I don't care if it is a repro. I have a lot originals, but some I couldn't buy...I don't have the money and some I haven't bought because I don't like the game. Now the originals are to expensive ...I cannot buy them. I wouldn't play with a game with a price tag of 600 euro's...the value would drop so much...such a shame. So an repro is o.k. for me.

    Buying repro just pushes up the OG - also why bother? Either emulate or flashcart it - having a repro on the selves is just lying to yourself
