This Sparrowhawk did not let his cuckoo counterpart get off lightly in this battle of the birds and at one stage the feathers were literally flying….

31-year-old, Organ Sabiepark, who works at Sabie Park just outside the Paul Kruger Gate, was able to capture this moment on film.
Organ tells us: “I have the best job in the entire world! Getting to spend the whole day being with animals, there is nothing like it"
This was the first time I’ve seen an eagle killing anything.
I was working at the picnic site, as usual, when I heard a noise coming from nearby. I started looking around and suddenly spotted the Sparrowhawk strangling a Jacobin Cuckoo.
When I watched the sighting play itself out, I felt sad about what was happening! The Sparrowhawk was biting the Jacobin Cuckoo and trying to kill it, all while the cuckoo was fighting for its life and trying to escape.
At the end, after fighting extremely long and hard, the Cuckoo managed to get away. That was in some way a great relief.”
Sparrowhawks rely on the element of surprise and as such will often follow a regular route to get close to potential prey.

@The Joker As far as I know, Cuckoo’s lay their eggs in other birds nest, then when the baby cuckoo hatches, it’s instinct is to push out all other eggs in the nest, killing the baby birds. This is so it can be feed more food from the parents and such
Most cuckoos do so, but not all species from this family. The one from the video looks like pied cuckoo and you are right, it's a brood parasite, but nestling doesn't push out other eggs.

Poor Hawk had to go hungry, but it should have been a better hunter in this case. However, it was also cool to see the raw determination of the prey to escape when it would have been so much easier to give up.
Perfect example of survival of the fittest and character traits that get passed down into future generations. The linage of a hawk that can't hunt effectively will die out while the lineage of a prey with enough instincts to escape will continue. Of course, one hunt doesn't say anything about how well either animal does overall, but the fundamentals of how species survival is determined is well shown. This was great to witness.
