- In the Mumbo filming channel video, we take a look at the latest Mumbo Jumbo Minecraft short, how it was filmed and what creative decisions I made.
For those who haven't seen the short, here it is: • I shift with my pinky now
Mumbo can punch through wood. But also move ridiculously fast between poses and change the weather at the same time
He is a powerful being beyond our comprehension. Must come with the accent. English people are really something else.

An Ironic thing for me is that he's trying to grow a stash and is struggeling while I want a clean shaven face but it grows back after like three days!
The awful drilling actually really sold the illusion that you were punching through the wood and not just like vaporizing perfectly 1/2 inch holes into the board.
yeah if it were all smooth it would have telegraphed everything was staged. but as is you could be fooled into believing it was real.
I thought it was intentional for just that reason.

I knew it was a practical effect because it looks so good. Not saying CG can't be obviously but it's also really expensive and time-consuming. I was really happy to find out it was a custom price as opposed to a thing they just bought though! I love when artists get to flex their skills like this.

y'know what. when i saw the video i didn't think the finger was that bad. but now upon seeing it again i've been able to truly appreciate how grotesque it is
It's interesting to watch the punching through clip after he explains it, because if you look at Mumbo it's obvious but if you look at his pinky it isn't.

She's more skilled working with wood than her husband, and she's not afraid to work on thicker, harder wood than she was comfortable with when they first started out. She spends her time mainly downstairs, around the back. She keeps it tidy, but she often tells him it's tight for space back there, and the backdoor needs widening.

The cool thing about the "poking the hole in the board" scene is that I, and I assume everyone else, naturally look at the X. When you are looking at the background, you can see how it changes from one shot to the other, but when you are focused on the X, you don't really notice.

As somebody who wants to become a videographer for movies you are so inspiring as somebody I've looked up to since I was a kid.
I mean everything was kinda easy to understand how it was shot. BUT the drill thing is genius.

U'know what, i salute to u for having an actual pinky prop for *one shot* that couldve easily been done with CGI, bcs down to millions of dollar budget movies just overuse cgi for just about everything

the match cut works very well because the viewer is distracted by the other holes and is also focused on the x before the cut
