“How can I forget you? You are my son. Me and Mummy brought you up. You’ll still be our son forever and ever.”
❤ I wish I had parents like those.

The thing is, they may forget WHO you are but they still feel love for you and know they love you. They know you’re someone special to them.

If my parents ever forget me i will spend what time i have left with them in taking care of them the way they did to us as a child! They spend all that time raising us and taking care of us! Its time for us to take care of them

That's a great mindset however it can be very stressful on a different level. A kid can understand what the parents are saying but elderly with less and less memory can't always. Even the simplest thing of going to the bathroom or putting on clothes can be the biggest challenge of the day

I happened to come into contact with many elders that were experiencing these issues. I worked in a grocery store, who every Tuesday would have a Dementia center bus about 15 men and women, and let them walk around and do some shopping, and we always helped them with their lists. I enjoyed doing this, as it helped in understanding how these people thought or processed these tasks. These lovely men and women were always so thankful for our help, and our interaction with them. Fast forward several years later, I have a loved one, who has had many brain tumors since she was 14, and is now 30, She is in a home with Dementia patients, where she cannot escape, and I again get to see many people with this awful disease. Don't forget your loved ones, just because they have it. Keep being in their lives. They are still the people you loved, and who loved you at one time. It is very sad to see these people die a lonely death, without interaction from those they knew for so long.

It's realy hard when you see their memory go but what the last person said is true. Keep showing love and care, it will still be hard but they deserve all the love we can give them.

i work with dementia patients, some of them can’t recall anyone, some remember only their spouses, some of them will confuse their children for their spouses, some of them believe their caretakers are loved ones, some believe their kids (well into their 40s and 50s) are at school and should be coming home anytime now. the one thing i se across the board is they remember how it feels to love you. they may not know exactly how you two are connected, but they know they feel love for you. and after a lifetime with someone affected by such a devastating disease, what a blessing…

Man I'm tearing up as I'm writing this. It's hard seeing the person you love and care for go through this. But i feel like god knows the reason as to why these things occur and something more profound and beautiful will happen for the individual themselves and of course their caretaken/partner/family

I’ve worked in a dementia/Alzheimer’s nursing home for almost a decade now. While they sometimes forget your name and who you are. I’ve seen some of our furthest gone patients light up when their kids come. That love stays with them all the way to the end. Bittersweet

😭😭 feeling this heavy. My dad has dementia and I’m his main carer so I’m the one person he’s attached to. It gets so frustrating at times because he follows me everywhere, even when I go to use the toilet he waits outside the door he just always wants to be close to me. I know I need to be grateful because I know that one day I’ll miss these moments💔💔

I don't know how it is for others. But my mom has Alzheimers. She doesn't even remember her own name. She doesn't remember my dad or us children. But she knows she loves us and is always happy to see us. It hurts to see my mom that way, but the love is still there. I remember one day a couple of years ago when I reminded my mom I was her daughter and her eyes lit up and she smiled and was so happy to know that I was her daughter.

My great grandmother has dementia. I just found out she fell and broke her wrist. The doctors gave her 6 months. I haven’t seen her since I was two, but I’ve sent her a few letters through the years. She has a picture of me (when I was 2) and my grandpa (her son). Apparently she talks to my photo and thinks that it’s alive. The tells my grandpa “I spoke to Bella today 😊” when really she spoke to my picture. She yelled at my great aunt, to tell my grandfather to change my clothes, as she only sees me in that photo, in which my clothes stay the same. Im taking a 13 hour drive to visit her next weekend with my parents. Im terrified. Im pretty sure she won’t be able to comprehend that im the child in the photo and that im no longer two years old.
