I upscaled a load of scenes from the old episodes, but they mass copyright stuck me. Now I know why! They wanted people to buy the new BluRays instead of watching the best bits on youtube.
Hi there! I'm not much good at this stuff, but on the back of each disc set, it lists Aspect Ratio as 1080i/16:9. And for disc format it says BD50 x 3?
Wasn't there an issue with the playing speed of the discs last time these were released on Blu-ray? Seem to recall they were slower. Does anybody know if these are an improvement on that and better picture quality? I'm tempted but it's a big chunk of cash if no better than an upscaled DVD. Thanks.
When you play the discs are the screen menus mostly the same or have those been changed/updated at all too? The 10th Doctor blu ray collection went up a bit recently to around $23 usd that’s been as low as $15 for the last year which was a great price
Yep, that's me - welcome Luke! I made an old and relatively primitive video about Lords Of Chaos: ruclips.net/video/1Xja6NN35SA/видео.html You might also enjoy my other channel, @possessedbymetal666 🤘👊😊
Great video. Can you please check the first Children In Need mini episode with David and Billie and let us know if they gave finally corrected the audio? The transmitted version which had Murray Gold music and the correct Cloister Bell sound effect and the version on previous disc releases has always used an incorrect temp audio track with other music and an alarm clock sound as the Cloister Bell.
Apologies if you have already done something on this.. but I would be interested in a video about you writing the UNIT audio-play for Big Finish. I'd be interested on how it differs from writing books, or scripts for more visual mediums!
One thing about artwork is only feature the doctor but none of the companions. That is a bit disappointing. I just ordered this a few minutes ago. How do they look in comparison to the older blu rays?
Hey there! That's a good point about the companions. As I say in the video, sadly, I don't own the previous Blu rays. Commenters here, though, are saying that there's little difference they can see. However, as you'll see in the video, previous mistakes have also been fixed. 👊☺
Now for the big question. Did they FINALLY put the correct version of Born Again, the 2005 Cildren in Need special included in Series 2, instead of the rough edit again?
@@ki700The version on all previous DVD and blu-ray releases had a stock music track whereas the actual broadcast version had a fully composed soundtrack. This version has never had a home release and can only be viewed through unofficial RUclips uploads.

Hey Jason, I was wondering what was the resolution printed on the bluray cases by chance? Was it 1080i or 1080p? If you could let me know that would be great. Thanks :)
Hey there! Weirdly, I can't see a resolution printed on the packaging, but I'll have a new video up tomorrow that will answer most of viewers' questions on this release - yours included! 😊👊

I'm glad you're all getting a comparable release to the US 60th box set. It sounds cool, but they only made 6000 of them, so kinda limited if you want to become a fan and if you could see the fat all in one cases they used for it, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the more individual cases.
@@ki700 You could say that for sure, but I'd say we're lucky to get anything at all, let alone an attempt at something that's supposed to be special. As awesome as Doctor Who is & as much as they're trying to bring it to the international stage, it's still very much a British/European show & they could've just as easily expected you to buy this set along with a region exclusive player to watch it rather than give us the NA box set. Either way, I'll take the bad packaging & figures over nothing, even if it isn't exactly my cup of tea.
It's hilarious that it misspelt Russell T Davies' name on the back. There's not supposed to be a period after the "T". It's "T Davies" NOT "T. Davies" because the "T" doesn't stand for anything lol. They could've done better with the disc artwork, but all in all, this packaging looks loads better than that of the complete collection which was just released here in North America. The price of that rubbish can't be justified. I just watched 2 of your videos & subscribed. I'm relatively new to Who & am making my way through the show, buying the sets bit by bit. I have that old DVD box set (1-4), the big digibook style Matt Smith collection, the Tennant Xmas specials set, complete series 8 & I'm waiting on series 9 and 10 (individual pt 1 & pt 2 sets) to come in the mail. @@jarnopp Cheers! I'm enjoying them thus far. 😎 I've gone a bit nutty & bought all the Whittaker series & specials as well. Although, Disney has the rights here & sometimes they don't do a physical release at all. They just signed a deal with Sony, who will release all Disney discs going forward. 🤞🏼
Oh, and YES PLEASE make a video of your time at DWM. I miss Tom Spilsbury as editor. It felt like DWM's Imperial phase. It looked gorgeous and the reviews seemed more honest and even handed. I miss Graham Kibble White too. I've noticed their names popping up in Total TV Guide recently. Is that where ex eds and reviewers are sent until they've mended their wicked ways? I might have to bust them out.
@@jarnoppI've just switched to Total TV Guide. Even with glasses I was finding Radio Times too densely packed. Old age, I'm afraid. I'll enjoy playing "Where's Jason" in TTVG. Unless you want me to bust you out with the other two. ✊
I've ordered this as to be honest I am way more of a classic Who fan than nu-Who (I just fell out of love with it though I still watch every episode.. if that makes sense), but as you say these are 15-18 years old now and feels right to go a bit nostalgic on them. However.. I find it utterly bizarre that they have not gone down the Classic Blu Ray set route with the beautiful artwork and superlative special features. I guess you won't be getting Mr Ecclestone to do a Behind the Sofa lol
That's a good point, Stephen, that these could have been much more like The Collection sets. But I guess the BBC made a call on... demographics, maybe, and what kind of packaging each one would prefer? 🤔 Dunno...
This is a really nice set and it seems pretty affordable for those who want to upgrade to the blu ray. I personally collected the Steelbook releases of each series when they came out a few years ago, so I probably won't get this particular version- although it does look lovely (Especially love the colour coordination on the blu ray spines.) Excellent video as always Jason 🙂
Ah yes, thanks Neil! Can you tell it's been a good decade since I watched this one? 😆 I must revisit it, actually, because I always especially loved Utopia. 😊👊

I still have a perfect set of 1 to 4 boxsets with outer sleeves. Something related to this i like the dr who theme song that was only used in the 9th dr tv promotions as it sound great and its better than the one they used for the next 5 years.👍
I would imagine if the Doctor Who Christmas Specials should be part of each series like for example: The Christmas Invasion is part of Series 1. The Runaway Bride is part of Series 2 Voyage of the Damned being part of Series 3. The Next Doctor is actually part of Series 4. A Christmas Carol (based on the book by Charles Dickens) is part of Series 5. The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe is part of Series 6. The Snowmen is part of Series 7A. The Time of the Doctor is part of Series 7B. Last Christmas is part of Series 8. The Wedding of River Song is already part of Series 9. The Return of Doctor Mysterio is part of Series 9. Twice Upon a Time, however, is already part of Series 10.
Hello Mr C! I've written Doctor Who tie-in media, written for Doctor Who Magazine and appeared in the background of a Doctor Who episode! haha. Will reveal all about that in the eventual video. 😆👊
Thanks for the video Jason! I would love to hear of your escapades on the Doctor Who set. This set looks very cool. I like that "The Next Doctor" from the Specials is now on blu-ray. I like the design of the case sleeves although I'm sure there are many who would prefer the uniformity of the roundel design sleeves.
Disappointing that it doesn't contain Attack of the Graske, The Infinite Quest, Dreamland, or the Sarah Jane Adventures- Wedding of Sarah Jane story. What a lost opportunity. And yes, please tell us about your on set adventures!
Hmm, indeed that’s not a particularly interesting shot of Eccles on the cover, hands behind back 🤔 I say yes to a vid of the time you were in Dr Who 👍🏻
It's a good thing you got this one instead of the American set. This one is in the correct frame rate of 25fps, in a 1080i50 container. The American set in converted to 24fps NTSC. Also the packaging for the American set is nowhere near as good as this packaging.

Although, Disney has the rights here & sometimes they don't do a physical release at all. They just signed a deal with Sony, who will release all Disney discs going forward. 🤞🏼
Did meet any doctors journals. Probably. Lots of people. Luck. Thank you
Hi Jason. What’s sound and picture look please. Ordered from hmv. Just wanna looks any good. Lifelong fan
Hey there Darren! I will have a new video on the channel tomorrow with lots of technical details answered! Hooray. 😊👊
Where can I buy?
Hi there! I put a handy Amazon UK link in my pinned comment here. Also in the video description. 😊👊
@@jarnopp Oke
Thanks!
But the real question is what does the upscale look like?
Hello! I haven't got that far yet. Although I'm not much of a cinephile, so I think plenty of other RUclipsrs will have more reliable opinions.☺👊
Is this region locked, or is it region free?
Sorry for the belated reply, especially as I don't have an answer for you! Have you found out since?
Oh, and YES PLEASE make a video of your time at DWM. I miss Tom Spilsbury as editor. It felt like DWM's Imperial phase. It looked gorgeous and the reviews seemed more honest and even handed. I miss Graham Kibble White too. I've noticed their names popping up in Total TV Guide recently. Is that where ex eds and reviewers are sent until they've mended their wicked ways? I might have to bust them out.
Awww, I miss Tom too! He was great. And funnily enough, I occasionally write for Total TV Guide myself. 😆👊
@@jarnoppI've just switched to Total TV Guide. Even with glasses I was finding Radio Times too densely packed. Old age, I'm afraid. I'll enjoy playing "Where's Jason" in TTVG. Unless you want me to bust you out with the other two. ✊
😆👊
Do tell more stories of being on set for Doctor Who!
very much noted, Marc! 👊☺
🤔 Dunno...
three collection sets are being done by a different team. It will be years before they get to new who
This is a really nice set and it seems pretty affordable for those who want to upgrade to the blu ray.
I personally collected the Steelbook releases of each series when they came out a few years ago, so I probably won't get this particular version- although it does look lovely (Especially love the colour coordination on the blu ray spines.)
Excellent video as always Jason 🙂
Thanks Ryan! Really glad you enjoyed. And yes, I like those spine colours too. 👊☺
The Master wasn’t in a Zeppelin, it was The Valiant, A flying U.N.I.T Carrier ship!
Ah yes, thanks Neil! Can you tell it's been a good decade since I watched this one? 😆 I must revisit it, actually, because I always especially loved Utopia. 😊👊
@@jarnopp oh you’re very welcome Jason 😁I hope it didn’t sound a patronising comment? Love your channel and love all the content you cover, thank you for what you do on here and thank you for responding☺️All the best☺️
@@neildavis3664Oh, you didn't come across that way at all. 😊👊 Thanks so much for the kind words!
I still have a perfect set of 1 to 4 boxsets with outer sleeves. Something related to this i like the dr who theme song that was only used in the 9th dr tv promotions as it sound great and its better than the one they used for the next 5 years.👍
Ah interesting! Now I'm trying to remember how that sounded! 👊☺
@@jarnopp there's is a vid on RUclips or it should be on your special features for season 1 as it's on the old set I have . Great content 👍
I would imagine if the Doctor Who Christmas Specials should be part of each series like for example:
The Christmas Invasion is part of Series 1.
The Runaway Bride is part of Series 2
Voyage of the Damned being part of Series 3.
Nice video! Imo, only classic who is retro. I take offense to people calling things retro & vintage that aren't more than a couple decades old. 😎
Fair! 😊👊
Wait you have worked on doctor who?
You're welcome, sir! And yes, great point about The Next Doctor. ☺👊
How does it looks compared to the original blu ray releases?
Hey there! Sadly I only have the old DVD box set, so can't compare 😢
play at correct original speed but picture quality wise essentially the same
Disappointing that it doesn't contain Attack of the Graske, The Infinite Quest, Dreamland, or the Sarah Jane Adventures- Wedding of Sarah Jane story. What a lost opportunity. And yes, please tell us about your on set adventures!
Ah yes, the Graske! That is a shame. And noted, cheers! 😊👊
Hmm, indeed that’s not a particularly interesting shot of Eccles on the cover, hands behind back 🤔 I say yes to a vid of the time you were in Dr Who 👍🏻
Noted, Jon - cheers! 😊👊
Just ordered it, along with a couple of Eaglemoss Cybermen figures. I can't help myself !!
Hehe, where's the harm, eh? It's almost Christmas after all! 👊☺
On VHS?? Prove it
Hello Matt! At the end of the video, I literally point to a video onscreen that you can click through to watch, which proves it. 😄😊👊
What's going on with the logo? It's a mess. Where's the diamond logo?
I'm guessing there are at least a couple of different logos, to be used for different designs 🤔😊👊
It's a good thing you got this one instead of the American set. This one is in the correct frame rate of 25fps, in a 1080i50 container. The American set in converted to 24fps NTSC. Also the packaging for the American set is nowhere near as good as this packaging.
Aha, good to know, thanks! 😊👊
Okay... I need to ask......
Can I interview you for my (very small) RUclips channel?
it would be a chill chat about what you've done and (of course) your Obsessions!
i wouldn't be able to focus so much on the horror stuff because i'm a wimp though🤣
i don't mind at all if you say no by the way🙂
another great vid!
Hey there STS. I'm so sorry for having taken so long to get back to you on this. I'm flattered that you'd like to interview me. Right now, though, I'm very focused on new things I'm looking to start up, and don't have that kind of spare time. Can I let you know when that changes? 😊👊 Glad you enjoyed the video.
no problem!
thanks for replying though!
How did you get this early
Hi there Shane! The BBC generally send these things to me, because I'm a journalist with this RUclips channel. Will you be getting this one yourself? 😊👊
@@jarnopp Yes have it preordered. Hoping there is a noticeable different from the originbal upscales.
@@ShaneJMcEntee 😬
@@jarnopp I thought it was witchcraft
I have already pe-rordered this, for my collection. I hope they do a 11th and 12th Doctors one. Not bothered about the other one.
Looks like a cheap cash in for the Anniversary year - that's my view 😂.
Defo would love to hear your stories about being on set.
Great to hear, Mark! (that second one, not so much the first 😆)
@@jarnopp 😂 it just feels that way. They could of gone all out like with the Dr Who season boxsets you have reviewed (all which came with a beautiful multi page booklet- this is just a flimsy sheet of paper with no writing about the production etc etc like you find in a bargain bin dvd lol. If it was like the Season boxsets I would say well worth it esp seeing it is the 60th Anniversary year.
Thank you. Lifelong fan all things who probably next Blu-ray box set. Season 15 never too much mr baker he’s looking very unwell nowadays sad. About time 2 doctors set. Hopefully next year. Fantastic. Tonight episode well done RTD. Ordered 60 th steel book have all. Steel books available plus all DVDs. Now. Blu-ray box set. Mad. Doctor who fan would love work on. Show. Let’s hope RTD does 8th doctor series plus hope see old doctors next two episodes maybe not??
So much going on in Who, all across the board, right? How wonderful! 👊 😊

Unboxing. Upscaled. Doctor. Who. Series. 1- 4. Blu. Ray. (. Is. Nu. Who. Retro.
Really don’t like the art. Just feels kinda cheap 🤷🏻♂️ great to see the unboxing of this! Been intrigued to see it.
I like that it has new art, at least. (Sort of.) Glad you enjoyed the unboxing! :)
@@jarnopp always love your videos!
@@HudsonMedia Awesome! 👊☺
I really hate the art on this. the bright colors are such an eyesore
Hey there! Thanks for sharing your views. I really like it myself - especially the revelation that Doctors 9 and 10 can be identified by silhouettes! 😊👊
Favorite doctor of modern who from 9 through 13. Mine is 10th doctor. My favorite classic doctor is 3rd doctor.
the cover art is just abysmal.
Calling new who retro makes me feel so old even though I was 4 in 2005
I know, it's disorientating, right? ☺👊
