1. I was kidding fishing anywhere on the creek is a complete gongshow let alone the stretch below the dam 2. It's not illegal to fish below the dam just the section right under the ladder where its posted
Anti-China haters: “Don’t buy Piscifun reels! They’re no good, made in China crap! Only buy American-made!” Me: “STFU! I’ve been using Piscifun reels for over 7 years now and all of my reels still work great! They’re lighter, smoother than the Penn reels that I own! And they’re 5 times cheaper to boot! FYI: I bought a St Croix rod 5 years ago and it snapped at the tip the first time I used it on the first fish that I caught! So much for that American quality, eh?”
It is everywhere. But float fishing in 2-3ft of water with a fly will result in many foul hooked fish. The odd one caught in the mouth was flossed because they swim with their mouths wide open. I've been fishing at Port Hope for nearly 2 decades and see the same nonsense every year, well everywhere every year. I fish near the mouth or out on the pier and fish either skeins or pitch lures, only ever had 3-4 foul hooked fish in that period of time. Now what does that tell you, huh??? Those fish you and all the other anglers were after were there chasing each other around, being territorial in very shallow water, not feeding. That's not the way to properly fish for them, sorry. Also, if you notice during the battle with the fish that it's foul hooked, you aren't supposed to keep fighting the fish to land it and get a picture. According to the MNR, once it's been determined that you have a foul hooked fish you're supposed to break it off so that it still has fight left in it to go upstream and spawn. Unfortunately too many anglers ignore this and I see fish that haven't even spawned yet come floating downstream dead or dying because of this BS. Not good fella, wise up
I've caught quite a few stripping streamers in deeper pools and even in shallow stretches and there is quite a few that are legally hooked but for the most part its foul hooks and or belly hooking. I dont think closing the river for all of salmon season is the answer all that does is makes the fishing better for boat anglers. I just think people should have common sense when they fish. Of and maybe drop the limit to 1 or 2 not 5!
Nice to see some fish move upstream. Hopefully you have better luck next time. I don’t like fishing PH as it gets too crowded and some people have no respect for you fighting the fish.
Thats true. I just tried that day and bring my gears. Me and my buddy went there to check it out and we're surprised that its already running upstream. Now i might target them in most river mouths to get better fights for salmon fishing. Lets go together if you have free time adrian
Marvin Vin Outdoors I enjoy the river mouths more just because they fight better and don’t have to worry about line tangles. Hopefully I will see you out there this season.
I feel like the younger generation of anglers ( my age and under 16 to 30) are the worst. Their all to cool to even say goodmorning on the river. I call them Instagram anglers

It's so easy to snag them the real challenge is for the salmon to take the bait. The sad thing is many snagged fish are not being released.
Its illegal to snag the fish, you can lose your license even your vehicle and a fine, careful guys.
Should be a great day Saturday before the storm sunday
They close the whole port hope river
