2022... 1 year later STILL HOLDS. Did not have to drill anything.
Brilliant! Thank you. Yes, this seems to be the only video addressing this particular challenge.
I used this method with great success. It was a little nerve wracking drilling an 8 inch hole, I used a torpedo level (most have a little groove in them) to keep my drill bit level. You can also eye up a speed square to keep it parallel. I then used oak plugs for the countersunk holes.
My screw heads were huge so I had to use a rotary tool with a cutting disk to shave them down a bit. You’d have to look hard to find my repair. Overall this was the best video I found to help me with my repair.
I have this exact same problem with 2 of my stair treads. Your video is the only one I’ve found that fixes this problem so thank you for posting this ❤. My husband and I will try this next week. Also, I have those same Irwin clamps and I didn't know I could use them like that (remove the end of it). Great tip.
Its been 2+ years. Staircase is holding strong with everyday use! Use good glue. Do good prep work. Hold it tight. Don't worry about holes, you will fill them later.
Great solution. You saved me a ton of time and $.
can you put a list of what all tools you used so I don't miss anything I'm using this method
Wow you are the best!
you need to wipe the glue out with a wet clothe and no need for the tape. good job man.
What kind of Irwin clamp is that? It pushes the bar against the riser so you can clamp the tread. Thanks.
You mentioned you would have the screws you used in the description but can’t see it. Can you remember which you used. Thanks.
Thanks good job
Mine is under the carpet and feels like the whole tread is broken off from the back - tips back and forth.
They make wood dols specifically made for stairs and comes with drill bit.
yes i looked into it but it didnt apply to my situation
What size clamps are they please?
Great work! Thanks for the video. A few questions... Is the step holding up after these 6 months or so? Did you drill for and install the longitudinal screws? (I would love to learn how to drill 8 inches through the tread without poking through the top or bottom - I'd be nervous). I am happy to find your channel and look forward to watching some of your other vids. Thanks!!!
I did not need long screws. glue is holding strong. In fact I glued whole staircase together. It is solid, no squeaks.
@@Mac1PC Thanks for the update!! I'm going to try this on the broken tread I have. I thought about removing it, gluing, and clamping, then reinstalling. But it seems I don't need to remove it after all.
