I think what I appreciate most about Martijns visual journals, is that it tells a universal human story that relates to all of us. We arrive in the world with a deep desire to find a place we can call our home. A place that like the oceans forms the rocks and beaches on its shore, can mould and shape us as people. We long to find who we are in the big scheme of the natural world and with what can we contribute. Will we find a place to spend our life which in a sense is larger than ourselves, and where our legacy and memory somehow can live on, even after the days when we are the ones who lived long ago. Fame and fortune dissolve into meaninglessness when we’ve found our sense of coming home. Many might leave the world having these questions unanswered, but too see someone who takes the time and makes the effort and sacrifices in order to make for themselves a true home, is probably what’s most inspiring.
So true! Wonderfully said! But not everybody can do it as Martijn does, because we have lost our roots, our bond to nature and the knowlege for self reliance!

Really enjoy the visual story you are telling. Seemingly idyllic pastoral setting. On your greenhouse roof. I would use 1x2 horizontally along peak, middle & bottom under the corrugated roofing. This will support it with a snowload. Plus having 1x2 on top will hold the snow up there creating potential for ice dams. A couple of other suggestions on things my farm store sells to folks that make work easier. First, a two wheel garden cart to replace the wheelbarrow. Far more stable, and you can carry bigger loads easier. Cutting down your workload and effort. Next, a simple tarp to throw grass clippings on, making it easier to carry more, with less effort. Cheers from Michigan.
It already looks elegant, Martijn, even with the temporary roof you put on. Waiting to see the finished product. Sure you enjoyed your walk in the mysterious mist and glad to see the chickens seem to be a unit now.
Lovely now that Martijn is no longer focused upon getting the first cabin finished, he can now turn his attention and care to the property at large, carving out a trail in the impenetrable forest to the lovely old beech tree, building this stunning greenhouse, and hopefully soon, starting on the workshop, storage and new outdoor kitchen/workspace above the cabins! This is a banner year in his beautiful quest to build a life in the Piedmont. We're so very lucky we get to tag along! Thanks you from Cajun country in south Louisiana, Martijn!
You mean destroying forest habitat and cutting down trees potentially with birds nests in them, in a period when you're not allowed to fell trees under forestry laws..He's amazing 😍
@@BobKelly-fr5kh Gosh, Bob. Maybe he shouldn't be allowed to drive his new Mitsubishi Pajero down the mountain roads as hapless salamanders, newts, snails and Piedmont worms might get crushed under the cruel wheels. "Forest habitat" eh? LOOK! There's Bambi!! But seriously... If you've watched every episode, you know that the "forest habitat" Martijn cleared a path through to the old beech tree, was meadow when he bought it. The birch and other trees grow incredibly fast, and Martijn's 6 acres would be entirely forested in a couple years if he didn't clear the trees back. He's not clearing historic old-growth forests, it's more akin to clearing weeds from a suburban lawn.
@@duncanfrere2656 I appreciate your two cents...great Mitsubishi Pajero plug btw...need a new car? It sounds like you don't care about any of the ecological affects impacting the very sensitive area that is Val pellice (which happens to be one of the only Alps valleys in Italy that has a dead-end road, no highway through it and isn't industrialized!). I manage a wild bird rescue, research and sanctuary in Angrogna, Val Pellice. I am sure that if you are such a devoted fan(arse kisser) and, having watched every episode from your armchair, you'll know where Angrogna is and how very important it is to help this forested corridor under pressure from an overpopulated France, Germany and Italy. Throwing around terms like "historic old growth forests" in relationship to the Alps geology, Piemontese history and the European migratory birds in this area makes you look stupid. Most old trees here are about 60-100 years - overgrown grazing land. Barfe has an altitude of 1000+ metres where trees grow slowly, So the term "historic old growth forest" has no significance in relation to my concern/comment about cutting trees down in spring and summer in Angrogna where there is a legal ban on cutting down trees in the spring and summer (trees are in leaf and birds seek a safe nesting location). I suggest you get offline and get outdoors to smell the roses before making such criticisms based on your ill informed, RUclips fantasy world concepts.

I’m a poet, a very old poet :-), and I often find those atmospheric walks of yours in the snow, in the mist etc very stimulating….hence the adaptation of Tolkein’s poem of Over the hills and far away. You have, if you don’t mind my saying so, a poetic view of the mountains, forests and long forgotten cottages that is just beautiful. I did start a poem of my own on that walk of yours, up through the forest and the mist, which will take a while to complete and work on and it’s too big to get on here, but thanks, thanks for all the work and dedication you put into your vids. I’m too old and frail, and my spaniel is also :-) to come visit you but I appreciate that through the vids you come and visit us. All good wishes from me and Meg, the spaniel
I always enjoy your videos. As I read the comments each week from people all over the world. It is obvious no matter what part of the world we come from we are not that much different. So why can’t we all live in Peace and Harmony working together for the betterment of us all as God tells us to in the Bible. Happy Fathers Day to all Fathers may everyone find God’s grace and mercy.
Because we are governed by power-hungry individuals who are jealous of each other. Plus, We The People, are not smart enough as a group to say, 'No,' we are not going to kill each other for you; now go away and leave us alone.
If you know The God of The Bible, you should know that, though many of us are able to live in peace with others, too many won't. Sin is still real, still holding sway over much of societies; satan is still around wreaking as much havoc as he possibly can; and the governments of the world are gathering to fight against The living God in the final battles of that horrifying season of judgement coming upon this fallen world.
I like that you have a very realistic work/life balance. When you had to have shelter for Winter you worked very hard every day to get it done. Now that you have permanent shelter you are moving at a relaxed pace and taking more time for yourself. Good life lesson.😊
My life has slowed down considerably as I have to wait for Sunday every week which seems to take forever to get here. Then the anticipation of knowing Martijn's video is up but I have to wait, savoring, like a cat with a mouse, to make my breakfast and coffee so I can eat while Martijn cooks and eats. The greenhouse is very attractive and has me thinking I should replace my ugly pvc pipe hoop houses with something nicer. I am inspired.
In this chaotic mixed up world… it’s Monday 17th June 2024 06:00 and it’s a sunny morning and I’m lying in bed relaxing with a rescue cat who is so loving …feeling chilled and enjoying this beautiful video… feeling that the best things in life are feeling the sun on your face, feeling love and enjoying nature. Thank you Martijn for sharing your amazing life with us here . ❤
My favorite moment in this wonderful episode was the dinner plate arc on the rafters! Those decisions give you a smile for years to come - if you remember them?!
Adding just one note to the Sheltering Sky- check out the film, but also the book by Paul Bowles. This is what Patti Smith write about Bowles when visiting him "...in 1997, I was asked by German Vogue to interview him in Tangier. I had mixed feelings about my assignment, for they mentioned he was ill. But I was assured that he had readily agreed and that I would not be disturbing him. Bowles lived in a three-room apartment on a quiet street in a straightforward fifties-modern building in a residential section. A high stack of well-traveled trunks and suitcases formed a column in the entranceway. There were books lining the walls and halls, books that I knew and books I wished to know. He sat propped up in bed, wearing a soft plaid robe, and appeared to brighten when I entered the room. I crouched down trying to find a graceful position in the awkward air. We spoke of his late wife, Jane, whose spirit seemed to be everywhere. I sat there twisting my braids, speaking about love. I wondered if he was really listening. -Are you writing? I asked. -No, I am no longer writing. -How do you feel now? I asked. -Empty, he answered."* *from Patti Smith, "M Train"
It is Martijn’s journey by bicycle bi cannot remember where he started but he ended up at the southern tip of South America. There is a video of his travel as well.
Beautiful!!! Everything!!! The plants you are planting, the greenhouse, the chickens, your home, the views, the mountain, the birds... simply magical! 😊❤
Aloha from Hawaii LOVE the flowers by the house. And the first real cow bells of the year down the mountain. And the chickens seem to be doing well together.🌸
One of the nicest videos you have posted Martijn. Thankyou for the beautiful scenery. The walk was calming. And your work on the greenhouse just a joy to watch. Thanks!
Then I stop for a while and I start thinking to the amazing dedication for the art of cinematography Martin possesses.. to draw out the drone and follow the car climbing up the steep road on the woods.. just a 3 seconds footage in a 40min video.. but so meaningful and so relevant to the storytelling. And the music theme, just wonderful.
I just realized with all of the interesting and delicious looking food you make, you should put together and publish a cookbook. I would totally buy it! 😋

Hey Martjin - I have been planting/growing wine grapes for 20 years as a hobby (in a cold climate in the Northern US). You may want to consider putting the grapes on an outdoor trellis rather than in your greenhouse. They are highly aggressive and take a lot of space and sun for each cluster. They do well outside if you pick the right varietals for your region and you have a lovely spot for a small trellis facing down the valley. Just a thought - thanks for all you do - love watching the journey!
That shot of you eating Bruschetta, sitting in the sunlight, the geraniums and the beautiful mountains really took my breath away. The greenhouse is so pretty, superb editing, adore these Sunday episodes. Thankyou Martijn.
Once again I am impressed by Martijn's professional construction of his greenhouse. But no less by his trick of attaching the temporary roof covering in such a way that the corrugated material can later be used for other purposes without holes. A greenhouse like this will be hard to match for a long time !!
I love the way the solid feeling of the greenhouse fits within the times-gone-by world of the stone buildings. Those curved pieces of wood make my heart sing. Here I am, alone in the bush in Canada, enjoying your way of being apart from the crazy world while enjoying life.
Are you serious...a slapped up window frame green house with no solid foundation, and it's sole purpose to film some vegetable growing videos for the couch potatoes and to qualify as a homesteading RUclips video... doesn't even compare with a 200 year old stone animal shed that was built by very poor hard working mountain farmers. As you felt your peaceful moment in gratitude enjoying the sun on your face; I also felt it. The greenhouse is beautiful and it's not even completed yet. Thank you for the walk as I enjoy the scenery.
I think the chickens were liking the green house. You think they thought they might be moving? lol Definitely the Chickens approved of the new green house and so do I, nice work of art. ♥
What a wonderful place to call "Home". You have worked so hard to achieve this but I know you have enjoyed your journey. It must be hard to wake up to a beautiful day with the birds singing and smelling the fresh air. Well done Martijn.
The life that will soon come from your greenhouse will nurture you which is similar in the way your wonderful videos do for us each Sunday. Thank you Marrijn.
I really love the wonderful views out there. The very gorgeous mountains, the clouds as if you're near in heaven...the trees, everything were perfect....❤
The greenhouse is a little glass jewel tucked into the mountains, another creative piece of art that martijin shares with us. Do u ever think about all the lives past and present that lived and worked in the abandoned buildings on his walks, so quiet now, but used to have life.
Ohhh so sweet! Lovely greenhouse! Beautiful design. Perfect BG music. We love the poultry family’s participation. Thank you, Martijn. I’m looking forward to next week.

You make things work and it's wonderful that you stick to your vision. When watching the nature photography today i could feel myself breathing deeply again. Thanks. Glad to see the little chicken flock lying together and loved the way they came to inspect the greenhouse. Blessings for the week.

I suggest you get offline and get outdoors to smell the roses before making such criticisms based on your ill informed, RUclips fantasy world concepts.

it must be crazy being able to wake up over there every day
I rarely comment, if ever, but oh my... Martijn, you never do anything status quo, half way, or mundane! It's in the details that you surpass your contemporaries! Exquisite! 💙💜💚
Fantastic videography work. Your cutaways, b-roll, and drone shots are outstanding. Well done, Martijn! I'm hooked.
Amen agree
If you know The God of The Bible, you should know that, though many of us are able to live in peace with others, too many won't. Sin is still real, still holding sway over much of societies; satan is still around wreaking as much havoc as he possibly can; and the governments of the world are gathering to fight against The living God in the final battles of that horrifying season of judgement coming upon this fallen world.
Agree!
Such beautiful words. May you and your family be kept in God's grace and mercy forever!
The thing that all of your videos have in common, and is particularly evident in this one, is the sense of peace. It's truly a balm to the soul.
A greenhouse in a perfect place for homestead animals like cats or chickens in the deep of winter. Dry, warmer and out of the wind.
there is so much progress on this channel! It's somehow motivating and calming at the same time
It's boring as bat shit pal , you need to get out more and be amongst the nature in your local area
I like that you have a very realistic work/life balance. When you had to have shelter for Winter you worked very hard every day to get it done. Now that you have permanent shelter you are moving at a relaxed pace and taking more time for yourself. Good life lesson.😊
What a beautiful greenhouse! Everything you make is so aesthetically pleasing.
Except the curtain at the kitchen sink, sure wish cabinet doors were there. Love the look of everything else. Well done!
Very impressed with the woodwork in that roof. The curved pieces are just a great finishing touch!
Most solid greenhouse in the Italian Alps. :0)
The chickens inspected and approved, so I think they would love to move into the BEAUTIFUL greenhouse with 360 veiws!!
I thought that too lol. The chickens thought they were getting a new home haha.
I thought the same thing 😂❤🐓
They thought Martijn was building Cluckingham Palace... 🙂
7:58 seems like they’re looking forward with great satisfaction 😂😂😂😂 and later 29:48 they’re ready to move in!! lol
@@24JJ821poor things will be so dissapointed!
Get yourself a 4 wheeled Garden Cart with balloon tires, it will save you so many trips, and you will use it for everything.
Great advice!
Agree, we have one use it all the time! (Not the canvas one)
I have a Gorilla Cart. Exactly what Martijn needs. I could never understand the ones with a single front wheel. 😍🇨🇦
But will it drive on a sideways slope or only in flat areas? Therefore he'd need the single wheeled pushcart.
@@zBrush01 - Not engine run, just a 4 wheel cart 🤷🏼♀️
Your video is like watching a moving painting from the 19th century. Every scene worthy of a frame, beautiful.
My favorite moment in this wonderful episode was the dinner plate arc on the rafters! Those decisions give you a smile for years to come - if you remember them?!
Best series on RUclips. Thank you sir.
Everything is genuine about this channel. Love it.
Everything is fake, made for RUclips couch potatoes
I asked.
-Empty, he answered."*

Thanks for talking to us in each video, like an updating friend. It makes me feel as if we all might be as important to you as you are to us.❤
I love the gardening house! It’s just perfect for plants!!! So exciting❤️🥰☺️
My family got me Two years on a bike for Father’s Day. It’s such an amazing book. Thank you!
Was macht das Fahrrad mit dem Buch ????
@@rehgina9903 das Buch heisst so, martijn schreibt darüber, wie er zwei Jahre nur mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs war
It is Martijn’s journey by bicycle bi cannot remember where he started but he ended up at the southern tip of South America. There is a video of his travel as well.
Started in Vancouver > Argentina
Yeah it's pretty amazing he has the whole trip on this channel 👍
Beautiful Greenhouse!
처음부터 매주 영상을 봐 왔어요. 117번째 영상을 보면서 마틴이 나의 가족처럼 느껴지는 건 왜 일까요
I love all the birds chirping / singing in the background! I appreciate all of the natural sounds in your videos!
Beautiful!!! Everything!!! The plants you are planting, the greenhouse, the chickens, your home, the views, the mountain, the birds... simply magical! 😊❤
That's a beautiful little structure you have created Martijn. New construction can go so quickly!
Only Martijn would have nicer woodwork on his greenhouse than I have in my home! 😂❤
Aloha from Hawaii
LOVE the flowers by the house. And the first real cow bells of the year down the mountain.
And the chickens seem to be doing well together.🌸
Come for Martijn and his ethos and beautiful work, stay for the chickens ❤
One of the nicest videos you have posted Martijn. Thankyou for the beautiful scenery. The walk was calming. And your work on the greenhouse just a joy to watch. Thanks!
There is something here that unexplainably captures the human dream. Creating a safe home. Family. Nature. And really not much to say.
Love the greenhouse!😊
Then I stop for a while and I start thinking to the amazing dedication for the art of cinematography Martin possesses.. to draw out the drone and follow the car climbing up the steep road on the woods.. just a 3 seconds footage in a 40min video.. but so meaningful and so relevant to the storytelling. And the music theme, just wonderful.
Beautiful!!! As always ♥️
Looks like it’s going to be a great day , those bird songs are amazing .
What a lovely greenhouse! Well done. As always😊
I think the chickens think you’re building them a new chook house! 🐓😄
They were getting ready to move in !
@@veronicaroach3667yep, 29:48 😂😂
I just realized with all of the interesting and delicious looking food you make, you should put together and publish a cookbook. I would totally buy it! 😋
Finally a couple of rain free days which allowed you to complete the greenhouse which looks just great !! Yet again your wood making skills have ensured that the finished work is of a high standard !! That personal touch you put in at the entrance… perfect !! Durban SA🇿🇦
Martijn, Watching you every episode over the last 16 months or so is like watching a friend now. I’m still amazed every episode by your workmanship and your accomplishments! Way to go🙌
Martijn your greenhouse is gorgeous and it isn’t even finished. WOW!
Martijn already knows to add 2 weeks to any timeline he gets from the locals 😁. I’ve also learned this lesson here.
Hi Martijn. It's Raquel.I wanted to Wish your Dad a Happy Father's day and your brother's if they are Dad's.And Please say hello to your Mom for me.Thank you.Raquel.And keep doing great on your Land. And keep up the good work you are doing.Thank you for Posting and have a great Sunday morning.🤗.
Even a greenhouse becomes a work of art under this man’s guidance. A man of several talents
I could live in that greenhouse! So beautiful.
That shot of you eating Bruschetta, sitting in the sunlight, the geraniums and the beautiful mountains really took my breath away. The greenhouse is so pretty, superb editing, adore these Sunday episodes. Thankyou Martijn.
This green house is lovely enough to live in ,....all it needs are some rose bushes around it. 🌞 super job !!!!!
Once again I am impressed by Martijn's professional construction of his greenhouse. But no less by his trick of attaching the temporary roof covering in such a way that the corrugated material can later be used for other purposes without holes. A greenhouse like this will be hard to match for a long time !!
Strong winds will soon end it
I love the way the solid feeling of the greenhouse fits within the times-gone-by world of the stone buildings.
Get offline and re-grasp reality
As you felt your peaceful moment in gratitude enjoying the sun on your face; I also felt it. The greenhouse is beautiful and it's not even completed yet. Thank you for the walk as I enjoy the scenery.
Martian that greenhouse looks fantastic great job my friend
I think the chickens were liking the green house. You think they thought they might be moving? lol
Definitely the Chickens approved of the new green house and so do I, nice work of art. ♥
Oh everything is just beautiful!! Gorgeous flowers! Views! Trails! The singing of the birds tops it all off! Ha!!!
What a wonderful place to call "Home". You have worked so hard to achieve this but I know you have enjoyed your journey.
It must be hard to wake up to a beautiful day with the birds singing and smelling the fresh air. Well done Martijn.
Nice project and always nice to have family around
The life that will soon come from your greenhouse will nurture you which is similar in the way your wonderful videos do for us each Sunday. Thank you Marrijn.
The African winds will blow away your delusion, just like the teepee
Like comfort food for the mind. Thank you, Martijn
waw that looks more like a small beautiful glass church ! Amazing Martijn !
Fig trees actually thrive in gravelly, less nutricious, but chalk rich soil. Awesome video, and such an beautiful area for a walk.
Ohhh so sweet! Lovely greenhouse! Beautiful design. Perfect BG music. We love the poultry family’s participation. Thank you, Martijn. I’m looking forward to next week.
Of all the channels I follow this one is my favorite!! Continue to be amazed at the wonderful transformation of your property over these years. The greenhouse is beautiful!!
And Martijn. You created another winner. Appreciate the fact that you don't run to buy another bunch of environmental damaging stuff to create what you want. You make things work and it's wonderful that you stick to your vision.
When watching the nature photography today i could feel myself breathing deeply again. Thanks. Glad to see the little chicken flock lying together and loved the way they came to inspect the greenhouse. Blessings for the week.
The greenhouse looks lovely! Thank you for an other great video!
I love that you add beauty to the functionality of your greenhouse.
Didn’t want to see this video end. So beautiful. Calming.
I cannot imagine heaven being much better than this‼️
Thank you for sharing your journey, living artistically in your moments, with a heart of thanksgiving in your work and even the tiniest bits of progress.
To have learned the art of living, by putting in the work to fulfill your dreams, while enjoying the moments is what an abundant life is all about.
I may be your biggest fan.
Blessings, dear Martijn!
It’s a proper homestead Martijn. Such vision you have 👏🪴
Martijn , this is the build I have been looking forward to for a long time. I am never surprised at the perfection of everything you construct. The greenhouse is a work of art. You will be able to grow most anything you want in your greenhouse. Can’t wait to see what is next. Again as aways, thank you for taking us on this incredible journey. Ann from Va. USA 🇺🇸
Good morning! 😄🌞🌻Sitting down to enjoy both my coffee and your weekly video, after having done my own early morning gardening chores. 😄 Happy Father’s Day to all the men who nurture their families and our world.
Martin, everything you turn your hand to do turns out a thing of beauty. There are no shortcuts or haphazard work and I am so impressed with your artistic life. You live a are well planned life. I'm in awe.
Thanks for the excellent video.
Greetings from Croatia!
👋👋👍
Because Martijn is also a very talented videographer, in addition to a cook, a carpenter, an artist, a stone mason, and dozens of other things, I find myself googling after his videos to learn more, including his movie watching choices. "Malkovitch desert movie" got me to "Sheltering Sky" which I'd heard of, but is now on my "to watch" list.
Thanks for showing me so many new and wonderful things Martijn - starting from your bike rides years ago, and continuing every Sunday morning :)
Your greenhouse is a work of art as are all things you build.
Martijn, you are so incredibly talented. Thank you for sharing your little bit of heaven with us. Sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
I really enjoyed the sound edits for those car rides. They were great.
