The reflection was my favorite and coincidentally I just ordered this camera a few hours before seeing your video. Great content as always, thank you for sharing your talents!
I am learning photography and went down the “better gear will fix my pictures” rabbit hole. You constantly show me that I am wrong, but thank you for talking through the composition process. That is what is forcing me to slow down and compose my shots.

Great project and love the end result. I think your angel photo gets the not, a great example of great street timing. I got a similar used TZ100 back in 2022, its the camera that made me fall in love with photography again (after that bit where smart phone processing instantly gave images that looked 'better' or more stylised/processed than the real thing). Very capable and an optimal blend of sensor size, fast lens and not too much zoom. I feel like there was an arms race with zoom for a while there and it ended up making compacts that whilst not 'bad' as such were certainly tricky to get the best out of. Think these Lumix compacts will be looked back on in a few years a golden era of 'simple digital' camera. Very fun to use too. Very watchable fun video
This was really inspiring to see. I suffer from thinking my equipment isnt good enough, and you just proved its not about that at all. Cant wait to get out there and shoot. Thanks!
I have one of the Panasonic bridge cameras on full frame it's 20-1200mm on the long end the lens is very soft but kind of has a painted look to those images.
Honestly, all of the pics turned out great! I'm a sucker for skylines, but I'm not quite sure how I feel about the ship. And getting the perfect moment with the girl in the white dress centered in the wings was outstanding! I have a ZS200 and will often take it out in my pocket as a "just in case" camera when I don't feel like taking a larger camera.
These little cameras I have a special spot in my heart up to today I still keep my point and shoot with me all the time especially for street photography.. those came out awesome especially the sharpness..I liked the model after with the flip out as well as the integration of an evf. Job ems
I have a Lumix ZS100 with a third-party hand grip from a seller on eBay and I bring that everywhere as a second camera. It has shockingly good image quality and it has very acceptable low-light performance, so much so that it is my go-to camera for indoor museums and places that don't allow tripods and when I don't want to haul around my Nikon D850 and lenses. These little cameras are very liberating in many ways.
That’s camera I probably should have gotten a few years back when replacing an old, old compact. I went with a 1” sensor Canon, but that means a much smaller zoom range. For what a compact does, I think the reach matters more than the sensor size, by and large. The other two features that really seem great are the EVF, and a minor UI favorite of mine: the option to turn the zoom rocker into a stepped zoom, rather than continuous. I really prefer that, and it’s a pet peeve of mine about my G7X it doesn’t have any similar functions. I’d love for these cameras to go further, and let the zoom rocker be fully customizable-a rocker switch is as good as a control wheel, if customizable.
OHHH!!!! That street-shot with the girl in front of the angel wing graffiti is just sooo serendipitously perfect! For outdoor shots, even old Panasonic compact point and shooters with small sensors are just dandy! Their Leica designed lenses are wonderful! I still have and very occasionally (mostly for macro, small sensor is perfect for them) use my old 2003 model DMC-LC40 (f/2.0-2.5, 33-100mm, which I bought with the adapter for using 52mm filter thread accessories, and for outdoor shots and even indoor flash supported shots with still subjects, it was and is great! It's Summicron f/2.0-2.5 lens has a most useful equivalent of 33mm to 100mm coverage, and I keep it set at ISO100 to keep noise out. The old LC40 lens' modest wide angle is fine for me, as my eye is never good at composing or imagining wide angle shot anyway, and I live in a far more standard eye-view to tele-focused world. I find it interesting, how digital point and shoot cameras are now holding their values better than we ever thought they would, because the handy travel superzoom models of high quality you show-case in this example, dropped like flies from store shelves and are not made anymore, but used models are going up in price! They are now MORE expensive used, than DSLRS, many of which are available at garage sale prices for a few bucks!
@MicroFourNerds ... I have the Lumix TZ90, and I'm so glad that I bought it, and I pair it with a Lumix LX7 as a lightweight travel kit. I love using the full range of the TZ90s lens. A lot of my instagram shots are taken on this pair, and my ever increasing M43 kit.
Great video showing your process. My favourite photo is the one of the wall with angels wings. I'm a sucker for brick walls of any sort, especially as I live in a "new" country. This photo takes full advantage of the artwork and I love that you blurred the figure. Lovely work, as usual. Cheers Emily!
My "main" camera is the Lumix S5 and some expensive lenses. I also have this TZ80. Despite the f8 minimum aperture, this camera really does "kick above its weight" in terms of the actual features (too many to mention, so check online). I would suspect that most viewers of the many RUclips channels dedicated to photography are not professional and, like this presenter, rarely have prints made. This camera is more than capable of producing good results and I do wonder about the need for me lugging around all my other camera gear.
Recently I had my main body die on me while out on a photo walk, but luckily I had my little Lumix TZ110 in my pocket, bit of creative angles and I got some great shots and the day was saved! Such a capable camera, amazing lens, and it’s got IBIS! Blows my mind.
I got tired of the MP chase some years back. Used bridge cams w/ 1/2 in. sensors. No problem. Finally settled on m 4/3rds eventually after lugging some FF's around for a couple of years. Lovely video & pics.
Compact cameras are a great complement to your cell phone or M4/3 camera. I recently bought a used/excellent Lumix ZS80 from mpb for my wife to use on an upcoming trip to Africa. It's small size and amazing zoom make it perfect fit for traveling light. My tests with the ZS80 impressed me with the quality of the jpg images straight out of camera, the astounding zoom, and the tiny size. The small sensor requires framing in camera to get best results. Hand held 4k video indoors at evening programs yielded good color, clarity and sound. While not "professional " quality, it was great for capturing family events. During recent sales, the ZS80 has listed new for $400. New or used, the ZS80 is a great value! I was so impressed with the ZS80 that I bought a used/good Lumix ZS100 from mpb. My "Enjoyment Factor" has been enhanced by adding the Lumix ZS100 to my kit. I wanted to travel light on a recent trip to Hawaii. My G9 or G100 were too bulky with lenses. My GX850 with 14-42mm Power Zoom (my favorite pocket rocket) fit in my pocket, but had limited zoom range. The ZS100 with 1 inch sensor and 25-250mm zoom fits comfortably in my pocket. Photos and 4k video were excellent and very close the quality of my m4/3 cameras. I even did astro and low light shots with it! My iPhone was great for selfies and wide angle which was limited to 25mm on the ZS100. The ZS100 hit the "sweet spot" for image quality and pocketability for travel, complementing my iPhone, and hitting the "Enjoyment Factor" of shooting with my m4/3 cameras. I recommend the Lumix 1 inch sensor cameras (ZS100 and ZS200) for micro four thirds photographers who want to keep the image quality and features of their m4/3 cameras in a pocketable "carry camera" . The ZS100 new lists at $500 and ZS200 at $600 new/on sale. Another great value from Lumix!
Super video. What fun. Does show that the kit is not always the key to better photos. I often take my Sony RX100 VII on holidays and street shoots because of the flexibility.
I bought the TZ80 last year as the event I was going to doesn't allow cameras with detachable lenses, my only regret was not having more time to learn about the camera before the event. That said, considering the distance I was from the action I got some really OK shots, none would win any kind of award but that wasn't the point, it was making memories of his momentous event which the TZ80 did a superb job of. The optical zoom on this camera worked really well, very happy with this little snapper.
Im glad I found your channel. It really makes me focus on the process rather than the equipment. By the way, is Lightroom essential for post processing or are there any good alternatives?
For enhancing the technical abilities of small sensor cameras DXO Photolab Elite does a fantastic job. Small sensor zoom compacts have two major issues lens distortion requiring extensive correction and noise. Most software (LR) uses the optical corrections built into the raw file which is the same as the in camera jpg correction. DXO measure the camera/lens in their optical laboratories and can provide a much betetr optical correction compared to the jpg. You can often get a slightly wider fov at the wide angle from this improved correction as the jpg correction includes a crop. DXO Photolabs DeepPrime/XD raw noise reduction can give you at least 2 stops of improvement over the jpg and this helps to increase the available shooting envelope. Applies to MFT as well as compacts. Might be worth taking a look if you are not already familiar with Photolab Elite?
I started photography again a few years ago with this very camera. It had real limitations with aperture and wasn't great in low light. So I got a much more flexible Olympus OMD 10. I love the Olympus, but maybe I was too hasty in benching the Lumix altogether.
Just seeing this video. This is so cool, Emily! I love all the images - so beautiful to see them printed too! First of all, it's courageous given the cheap camera. Secondly, ingenious to add the filter that way! I would not have thought of it. Great images too! This reminds me a little of some of my GM-1 limitations and wondering if I'm just not thinking out of the box enough. You've inspired me! Cheers!
Really beautiful challenge you created here ! You can buy filter adapter ring that you can stick in front of the lens. After that use your ND/CPL filters as usual. That changes totally the photos & video quality that you can get from the camera. I used it every time on my Lumix TZ90. Love your content !
This video was a treat! It brought back warm memories of my first small M43 set-up, which was Panasonic GF-1 with the 20mm pancake lens. I've since sold it and moved on to the G9, but I am desperate to get something small again for street shooting.
I wish they would release one last refresh with USB-C. Still using a Sony DSC-HX50V, but the buttons are slowly wearing out. Power and shutter are still fine, but manual control is getting hard.
Wow! I watched a few of your videos in 2016 when I used an Olympus for a short while and haven't watched your channel since so I have no idea what made me watch this one but I'm glad I did. My best quality ND filter is for my lens with the biggest filter size and it never occurred to me before to try just holding it in front of other lenses without buying the step down (step up?) rings. Amazing that it worked.
My favourite point and shoot is a Canon SX-730. No raw but the zoom on that camera is silly. 900mm full frame equivalent. I love it so much. I ordered it from Germany because the Amazon Deutsch price was nice.
Interesting! 😃👍 I purchased the TZ-101 a few years ago. It has a 1"-sensor. The advantage compared with a 1/2.3"-sensor is from my point of view that small light sources in night shots aren't "sprayed" out by the reflection from lens to lens on the sensor. (Un)fortunately smartphones are getting better and better (Currently I'm using a Samsung S22 Ultra.) so that my camera catches dust most of the time in the corner. 😥 I'm having a polarizer in my camera bag for getting nice shots of clouds. But currently I'm using the camera mostly for night shots with a tripod. The smartphone is always in my pocket anyway. And Samsung Gallery and Lightroom for Android are available for free. 🤷♂️
Great challenge and the three that you selected were fantastic, i had chosen the same three but not the one with the ship in it. As a true professional your one looked and indeed added interest.
That view from the other side of the river overlooking Liverpool Waterfront, is spectacular. Jerry rigging the ND filter really enhanced the shot. I bet that if you mixed some edited images of your compact camera with your GH6 and possibly S5ii, I doubt many would spot the difference, especially if you did not mention the shots were taken on different cameras.
Ooh! I love that you used the tz80! I actually picked up the tz60 a few months ago for about 45gbp (600nok). I love it! Not the sharpest lens at all, but that zoom reach is so fun to use! It seems to have a filmic quality to it too. In my opinion. :)
Brilliant pictures and process… but what really-really amazed me is the video. What an impressive combination of sharp colourful front and dreamy- misty background with .. pastel tone colours? ( English isn’t my mother language so can’t describe better). Really interesting choice to show Liverpool. Superb channel
Late to the party but I'm definitely gonna follow this channel 👏👏 fun, informative, and practical - reminds me what got me started on this photographing journey ❤
Just starting out and all quite daunting at the mo!!! Really got learn lightroom!! Your images are amazing and I'm not a sucker for all the latest kit, but would like a camera that I can really learn with and grow with, can you give any pointers? Not sure on my 'style' yet, but love taking pictures out walking with my dog and creating interesting images from everyday things, like faces in the bark of trees! Also love the idea of getting good at street photography, any guidance most appreciated 👍
Based on the prices of compacts skyrocketing, especially those like the G10, G11, and G12 Powershots and others that are CCD based sensors, I'd say the trend has been up for compacts. I collect advanced compacts, both small and large sensor, but have put that on a bit of a hold with how cameras that might have cost me 80 bucks a year or two ago are now 150-250 in worse condition.
It’s very different to how I would do photography. I like to leave the pictures as close to straight out of the camera as possible, and use manufacturer picture profiles. And crop a bit if I need to. But it’s cool to see how differently you can do it. Everyone’s got their own way and that’s an awesome thing about photography. And I like that you can just hold the filter over the compact camera and it still works fine. I like the reflected one and the landscape a lot. Again, I probably would have just kept the one with the sharp buildings and discarded the other. But your composite does look really good.
Fantastic results and it just shows what is capable with relatively 'budget' gear. Budget photography, of which I'm a great advocate, my cheaoest camera cost me just £4, my Canon SLR kit cost me just £20. I enjoy the challenge of making the best images I can with the cheapest possible gear. My most expensive camera was the Panasonic Lumix TZ70 which is similar to the one you used here but is the 12mp version.
I use my TZ61 for holidays. Biggest problem is the autofocus and where it focus sharp. 3 5 or 6 points ind back and front. Never solved that problem. Most pics are okeish but not sharp. E eb id point doesnt change anything
I like the window reflection. I tried a similar shot using a 12-32 lens on a GX80 and I wasn't happy with the result. I forgot to use the telephoto lens which would have got me a shot similar to yours. In my defence it was about 5 am so I was half asleep at the time.
Great video! You're awesome with whatever camera you pick up 👍 Beautiful photos! You inspired me to be more creative with my own shots and to print more 🙏 Also, congrats on your other channel, I'm also a gamer and tech lover myself 😉
Love the wings, the perfect subject captured at the perfect point. When skill and luck coincide magic happens. I don’t have a point and shoot but I have started using a low mileage Olympus E-P3 with a non functional IBIS and the two body cap lenses for street photography. The results are a technical mess but have character. I am not a professional so I can leave my higher end gear for the occasional important shoot and just play with these toys.
Great content once again. I love my compacts from the Ricoh GX200, Olympus XZ-1, Canon S series (4 of them) all produce lovely images. Then there's the RX100 III and most recently the Canon G9X II. I love them for the portability and quality especially the G9X II. Superb touch screen, speed and IQ in a tiny package that fits in jeans pocket. Of course they don't offer the same speed and IQ as my MFT gear but it's essential to always have a camera to hand and I love compact pocket rockets for that reason.
Thanks Joe!! That took…. SO MANY attempts 😂 so glad I wasn’t shooting on film I’d have had to remortgage my house haha also I was super lucky it was a really sunny day - it wouldn’t have had the same effect if she was wearing a coat haha
This is the first camera I bought on my journey to taking photography seriously! Thank you for reminding me that, despite its limitations, it's worth keeping in my pocket!
Loved this, my fave is the first reflection in window. I recently sold my TZ60 and bought TZ95D and love carrying it for street photos. Amazing little cameras. Nice to see you can print from them quite capably.
Just got this camera for £125, the previous owner used it for 2 weeks, then it went back in the box. Got a bargain camera as well. Amazing video, cheers!
Hi Emily. Really appreciate the simple 3-location challenge, using an inexpensive compact. Just goes to show that there's a lot of fun to be had, without breaking the bank ! Can't decide whether I prefer the Liver building reflection or the waterfront. Mind you, the reflection could mess with someone's head after a few drinks.....😂
I think I liked the street art best, though it was close with all three. Thanks for showing your Photoshop techniques as well. I have a Sony HX90V -- great images for a little camera, but the Sonys are notorious dust magnets. I like being able to carry a camera in my pocket and grab a shot if I need it. I just have to be aware of its limitations. Unlike the Lumix, it doesn't do RAW, either. I do think it's a real drawback not to have a filter ring on pocket cameras. I would happily have 3 or 4 mm more bulk in my pocket in order to be able to screw in an ND or polarising filter -- or anything else that might help. The camera I really liked for street photography was the Nikon 1 V 1, 1" sensor, interchangeable lenses for 28-80 and 80-300 zoom range, RAW support -- but lenses which last a couple of year and then give up. I could put the body with one lens attached into one jacket pocket, and the other lens into the other.
Excellent video! I like the picture with the wings a lot, perfect shot. I use an older Panasonic LX10 for my stealth camera, nowhere near as much lense but the results are good.
Hi Emily, I bought this TZ80 from new back in 2018. To help I superglued a 35-37 step up ring to the front of the ‘zoom’ to enable a filter to be fitted. To date this is still affixed!. I find it to be a very useful travel camera as you say not the sharpest images but it does capture the moment. The TG4 is a very useful point and shoot too and can be used for those underwater events.
Hi. I have been following your videos for a long time. I'm looking for a very small camera, yo carry in my pocket, with which to record home videos of my children. I have other cameras for photography. How would this modelo work on video? Any other modelo you recommend? Thanks.
I think they’re superb, though the last one I used was one of the very first ones - I bet they’ve come so far since then I might have to check it out for the Tiny Camera series 😁
@@MicroFourNerds my close friend bought first rx100 with 28-100mm lens a year ago and can't stop shooting with it - he in love with it cuz "telephoto lens in your pocket"
Another great video, I have the Lumix ZS60 (TZ80), got it refurbished from Amazon 3 or so years ago and love using it. Only wish it had tilt screen but it is still awesome. When I am out an about with just point and shoot cameras, I take this and my recently acquired G7XMii, less zoom and larger sensor. I wanted either a LX10 or LX100 but could not afford them and found the G7X for a great price.
Better Call Saal! Beautiful shots. The angle is just perfect. Nearly too much luck to believe that it isn't staged. PS. Got a TZ30 a couple of months ago, the TZ80 is on my wish list.
We obsess way too much with our cameras.... you can get results with a btick with the editing software today. Even Image noise doesn't matter anymore with the AI noise removals available, you can literally take a super noisy RAW remove all noise and basically keep all detail today. It's wild.
It’s Milanote - it’s a storyboard/ note taking/ all-round sort of software that I LOVE. It basically runs my entire life haha every single video and social post is drafted in Milanote first it’s brill
I picked up the lumix lf1 and tz60 recently and I find I'm carrying them more than my other cameras now that the sun is out. I was very lucky to get both under £50. I'm sure with the digi cam trend prices will shoot up.
I so enjoyed this challenge! What did you think of the compact camera? Which photo did you like the best?

My canon g15 has a built in nd filter but I want one of these as well because it is lumix and so adorable 🥰 .
ZS60, Samsung WB150f, W35f, Oly Tough 8020 in the arsenal along with my m43 cameras. Luv my digicams !
Cheers!
Thanks you!
Really beautiful challenge you created here ! You can buy filter adapter ring that you can stick in front of the lens. After that use your ND/CPL filters as usual. That changes totally the photos & video quality that you can get from the camera. I used it every time on my Lumix TZ90. Love your content !
Do you have one you'd recommend? I have a Lumix ZS80 and I know these cameras are quite similar in shape/size.
Just love the middle one with the random stranger!
Interesting! 😃👍
I purchased the TZ-101 a few years ago.
I'm having a polarizer in my camera bag for getting nice shots of clouds.
You certainly chose the perfect person to be in the wings photo! That is my favourite by far.
It does feel quite filmic!! And what a bargain you found 👀
@@MicroFourNerds was also nice to see that the tiny sensor held its own as a large print!
Had a tz60 for two years now bought second hand and its just wonderful in every way and prints easy at a4 no problems. Great video
Great work as per usual and some excellent shots from that tiny sensor
Thank you! ☺️🙏
I collect advanced compacts, both small and large sensor, but have put that on a bit of a hold with how cameras that might have cost me 80 bucks a year or two ago are now 150-250 in worse condition.
love the photos of the people in front of the wings mural! this vid is a great reminder for me to print my photos sometimes haha
Thanks so much! Yes I totally agree it’s why I love photography so much - there’s no right and wrong, just expression ☺️
It's remarkable how you show us that the compact still has a place
I’ve just came across your channel. I loved the project you shared and I think your speaking style is outstanding. Yeah, defo subscribing for more. ❤️
Great shots!! Thanks for showing some of the post processing... it's helpful to see/hear your thought process.
Inheriting a couple of older TZ models led me back into photography and taking photos for fun. A long way down the M43 rabbit hole now :-)
I like the window reflection. I tried a similar shot using a 12-32 lens on a GX80 and I wasn't happy with the result. I forgot to use the telephoto lens which would have got me a shot similar to yours. In my defence it was about 5 am so I was half asleep at the time.
absolutelly i own tz90 as compact and it goes everywhere with me also have gx80 best combo
Great video! You're awesome with whatever camera you pick up 👍 Beautiful photos! You inspired me to be more creative with my own shots and to print more 🙏
Also, congrats on your other channel, I'm also a gamer and tech lover myself 😉
Aaah you found my secret channel! Excellent ☺️🥳
LOVE the composition with the wings!
The angel image is genius. Absolute genius!
Thanks Joe!! That took…. SO MANY attempts 😂 so glad I wasn’t shooting on film I’d have had to remortgage my house haha also I was super lucky it was a really sunny day - it wouldn’t have had the same effect if she was wearing a coat haha
@MicroFourNerds Honestly it's sooooo good and kudos for waiting around for the right subject
How did u find it?Ebay?
@vgee3926 It's a platform like ebay, yes. People can sell products on it (new or used). We don't have ebay in my country. :)
This is fantastic! I love how you get the most out of some very inexpensive options✌🏻
I think Lumix and overall all the brands, should continue this kind of product line, compact but powerful little cameras.
The Angel shot is a winner. love it :)
Excellent video! I like the picture with the wings a lot, perfect shot. I use an older Panasonic LX10 for my stealth camera, nowhere near as much lense but the results are good.
Wow absolutely incredible photos!
Loved my TZ90 until I wore the rotating controller out ~ I still have it but I’m restricted to Intelligent Auto
Your style is brilliant
Loved your video 🤘🏽
Also the colors in your edits are dreamy ❤
wow I love this genre of video. II'm glad I stumbled onto this channel
Try this one, a Pen EPL3 with the pany 12-32. You talk about compact with great sharp pics.🙂
Great video, challenge, and pics! Maybe I missed it, but which Panasonic model camera did you use? Thanks!
Thank you! The lumix TZ80 ☺️
@@MicroFourNerds Thanks for the info! Keep making your helpful videos....I learn a lot from them! and now have several m43 cameras as a result... ;-)
loved this project and video idea Emily!! Thank you for sharing as always
Hi. I have been following your videos for a long time. I'm looking for a very small camera, yo carry in my pocket, with which to record home videos of my children.
I have other cameras for photography.
How would this modelo work on video? Any other modelo you recommend?
Thanks.
What do you think about sony's rx100 lineup? Have a desire about everyday camera for everything (not ff bokeh or super duper video)
Hello , i was wondering according to you what is the cheapest best digital film like cameras models, beside the fuji brand ? Cheers
One of my latest videos answered just that actually!

Better Call Saal!
Beautiful shots. The angle is just perfect. Nearly too much luck to believe that it isn't staged.
PS. Got a TZ30 a couple of months ago, the TZ80 is on my wish list.
Thank you! ☺️ I got so lucky with the lady in white!! You should see how many shots that took haha
Wow, incredible work! I need to get rid of my GAS and just get out and shoot, lol.
Absolutely!! 🙌 (Though I cannot talk at all about GAS, clearly 😂📸)
What camera did you use to film this episode? It looks beautiful.
Nice job. I love the final result.
Nice - looking for something similar but the boom in the demand means this model is currently £350 on MPB!
We obsess way too much with our cameras.... you can get results with a btick with the editing software today. Even Image noise doesn't matter anymore with the AI noise removals available, you can literally take a super noisy RAW remove all noise and basically keep all detail today. It's wild.
You have a great channel plus personality. Beaut shots. Subscribed❤
great video!
What program are you using at the 7 min mark where you are rearranging photos in a moodboardlike fashion?
TY!
It’s Milanote - it’s a storyboard/ note taking/ all-round sort of software that I LOVE. It basically runs my entire life haha every single video and social post is drafted in Milanote first it’s brill
@@MicroFourNerds THANK YOU! ILY
I picked up the lumix lf1 and tz60 recently and I find I'm carrying them more than my other cameras now that the sun is out. I was very lucky to get both under £50. I'm sure with the digi cam trend prices will shoot up.
Bargain!!!!
Great video em! I want to start printing more of my work too, and I also want a silly little camera 🤣
Thanks Josh!! Well… I have a wrap-up video of my ten (10) tiny cameras, ranked, coming soon! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know Liverpool likes to think it’s a bit different to the rest of the U.K. but when did they start using the US $?
It’s a bit of a weird one. Around 40% of my audience is American. This saves confusion in the long run believe it or not 😂
