I like to see you gonna repair the 4960. I am from holland and know the late europian 4955 also use to have bigger rear fenders and europian lights. As far as i know everything wil fit with your new 4960 cab.
Hi Wes This looks like a good project, I'll be following this closely . I have re built a few fire damaged tractors in my time. it can be very frustrating, as loads of little things will give you crappy problems, all the way through. Oh and before you cut wires and stuff figure out what they are for and label, Had a guy help me once, he cut all the wires when i was out of the shop and made it real hard to figure out the new loom/ wire locations, as some wires where different or spare for other things not fitted to that model. The park brake is probably different for export or non export tractors have seen that on other makes between Europe and North America, asked a guy about it once his answer was in some country's, some guys aren't smart enough to take the brake off so they don't fit it, could be the way the safety laws are to in europe. Kinda looks like he was right with your tractor and guys not disengaging it, before you got it . Regards Robert
Will the 4960 be your main bailing tractor,or is that reserved for the 8120? Just wondering witch one has a stronger PTO for your new baler. Thanks again for these videos,I keep more up to date with your videos then any reality show on TV .I look forward to seeing the old Girl run again.
Re brakes: does this tractor have a transmission brake or "park position" on the gear levers as the handbrake never worked for you? It is going to be real interesting to see how much damage has been caused to metal components as you get into it.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong (a good thing), but I'd say the air compressor is a requirement over there. In Europe they use equipment/ trailers with air brakes, thus the need of an air compressor. Air brakes for equipment in the States isn't encountered very frequently, yet. There is a farmer I know of, here in Champaign County, IL, that has a NH tractor with air brakes though. He uses it to pull a 34' hopper bottom semi trailer in the fall (why he needs air brake capability.) Later, when he's unloading grain bins, he borrows a neighbor's semi tractor to pull the same trailer. Puts a SMV emblem on the back when using the NH tractor, and swaps that with a license plate when using the neighbor's semi tractor.
45Deere9500 Air brakes are common in Germany (even required by law i think) - but not ALL European countries. In some we have hydraulic brakes almost exclusively
I am looking forward to the completed tractor! I love watching these rebuilds.
Can't wait to see that beast out running again making some $$$$$$ best of luck with the Restoration wez
I bet Tim would just LOVE it if you made it an open station 4960 lol!

Wes - ever thought of doing this repair and restoration of farm equipment as a winter activity?
I think He's in new jersey, which is north america, which is northern hemisphere, and oh yeah it's late december, so it's winter....
I think he means as a side business, not just fixing his own stuff.
You would probably make more parting it out... but its not as fun that way!

By the way what happened to the glass in the tractor?
i think it got so hot the heat melted it
why did it return to North America? this was the one with the air compressor on it that you took off. was that a European requirement ?
