Unless the saw has a counterclockwise configuration, I don't see how teeth face up would cut (Unless the back is bladed?). Genuinely curious as I've worked years in carpentry and never seen this. Also, the animation of the saws is a clockwise configuration.
If the blades faced downward towards the wood you would have to pull back on the saw instead of pushing the saw forward might pull your arm out of socket

Kudos to him for being healthier and trying but he most definitely isn't living the lifestyle needed to be in top tier shape. I've been there. It's a dedication.
